  • very nice....did you tune up to suit your voice?

  • @apmeomet

yes indeed, but the higher tension gives a better sound as well; these old guitars don't take heavy strings so you get a better sound with light strings tuned up

  • You know you're doing it right when you've picked up the guitaring mannerisms of your blues ancestry

  • man sweet sound i know it sounds cliche buti either use a shot glass or the neck of a jack daniels bottle to get my slide sound, really should get to the shop and buy a proper one :)

  • brilliant.

  • Wow--awesome. A lot of soul. You make it look so easy because you are feelin' it. Thanks for the inspiration. :)

  • Great job man !

  • man, you rules!!!, i'm a mexicano that loves yot're music man, you rock !!!

  • yes yes yes... I love it.

  • Man daddystovepipe's music just blows me away

  • WOW LOVE IT!

  • wow! cant find words to describe it!

  • Hey mate did you grow on cotton fields ? Excellent !

  • Fantastic music you got there! It really reminds me of the Great Robert Johnson!

  • Not very many people get to feel the blues as something more than just a genre of music.

  • thats music my man.Very well done with great soul

  • awesome.. go go texas blues!!!

  • Navasota... I love there festival there. Right around my birthday ( Just wish my ex actually cared about my feelings - she lived in Montgomery... right next to here).

  • Fives forever! Feel it man!!

  • I can appreciate your deep respect for these cornerstones of the blues and rock music. Great job! I have a slough of DVDs of these legendary performers. Thanks for sharing your wonderful guitar collectiion also.

  • excellent! thank you

  • Those who post suggestions should listen to originals like Mance L., when it comes to this kind of music. (he didnt sing loud like say the hollerers, Big Bill B.,Leadbetter etc..Very well done cover!

  • I also love Skip James' falsetto wailin. :) Haunting. There wasn't another like him.

  • Sounds great as always!!

Would LOVE to see you post a version of Blind Lemon Jefferson's "Hot Dogs"!

  • Great job, love the playin'! I'd like to hear our vocals a little louder! keep up the great work!

  • Amazing!! I'm working on my slide technique at the minute. I think we all need some more mance in our lives so keep them ones coming! What is the slide you're using? Just glass?

  • Thanks dw, the slide is glass but made to fit snugly - it's a 'Diamond Bottleneck', model 'Ultimate'. The inside is tapered and gives you extra weight and better sound.

  • You kept me from pullin' the Trigger....

Nice Blues, Brother. Just wanna say-

the way it is and 5's Forever. Rock On.

  • man, i love that!

Damn

  • Like he said so in Dutch, you're doing great. A great guitarist. Hope I play like you sometime.

    Keep it up!!

  • great!!!

big hey for your Stella, and your bottleneck!

and a little for you ;)))

  • hey daddystovepipe are you from navasota to. i am

  • wow, when you pass Mance's house : make a bow and say a prayer for me.

  • This is my favorite song...everything is flowing...music...

  • yo, i dig how you got all them old records and such

  • Great song!!!!! I was wondering where I could get the lyrics..Can't find them anywhere.?!?!

  • Couldn't find them either; just listen to his recordings and you'll find out. If you want to know in which keys Mance is playing go to weeniecampbell

  • Hi daddystovepipe

love your guitar slide technique and just what make of guitar is this as I have one very similar which I can't identify Regards Ron

  • It's a "Stella" concert guitar, probably from the late 20ies. Google "Neil Harpe Stella guitars" and you'll get on a site that will tell you all about it; Neil also wrote a great book with cd about these guitars.

  • That's the real "goot ol' thang" there, my friend. Your guitar playing is "Stellar" (har har) and your singing is suitably understated. Bravo!

  • just got your CD, WOW. Its been playing on loop in my car for 2 days. Make more please.

  • WOW!!! Afrikaans en Belgie is nie daar verander.

  • Love the hat :P

  • I love it. GR8!! I had the oppertunity to jam with an older blues gentleman at the age of about 20, and he turned me on to Rev. Gary Davis. I've never turned back since then. Keep pluckin'!

  • i dig it

  • wow...ur great...u shud try playin arabic and indian stuff they sound great...

  • Iam lovin the hat.Mann that is outstanding great playing you got it you got the bug hotdamn.

  • What a wonderful interpretation of one of most beautiful song by the great Mance Lipscomb.

Really Daddy, you make me smile very bright when I hear this,

    THANKS!

  • He is one who met the devil at the crossroad. A world class blueser!

  • Wow, beautiful!

  • thats got soul.. very nice

  • wow that guitar is absolutely beautiful

  • Love this song and you've done a spectacular job with it. Found you through lowlifer...

  • Your videos are a true treasure! Thank you for each every one of them!

  • Whoa that one was killer man. You really knocked that one out of the park. Loved it, tone and everything. When I watch Mance Lipscomb pound that thumb muting it just makes me want to grab a guitar and join in. Keep up the great stuff.

  • You say it's in Open A, but there are three different Open A tunings: two traditional ones, EAC#EAE and EAC#EAC#, and there is also the 'Slide'Open A, which is EAEAC#E

  • Yeah, I should have said "Spanish" as they say in bluescircles, which is your slide open A or more commonly open G

  • Fantastic.

  • that guitar is so freakin sweet!!! :)

  • Love it Great job

    Roy

  • If it gets any better than this I suspect God himself will have to come down and do it.

  • nicely done! real talent

  • der papa ist einfach gut!!!!

  • that is some of the sickest slide i've heard in a while, man. great tunes.

  • u make me want to learn the slide!!! i love that shit

  • Great slide playing! Good intonation. That beautiful git has a crisp, clear tone. It's also nice when SP Daddy occasionally looks at the camera to acknowledge his audience. 5 stars

  • Striking performance, Daddy (even withouth the finger bandage that Mance is sporting in some footage). Leon Redbone'd better watch out, your Panama is at least as impressive as his pitch helmet. Anyway: super solid slidin' 'n singin.

  • Awesome it's like i ever heared the song=O but i can't really remember it=D

Bravo Daddy! On en veux plus!

  • love the way you play the guitar my friend

  • Perfect!

  • With a hat like that you can go out and play anyday.... (Just a suggestion) hahaha

    Ralph

  • Sweeeet!! Just keep'em coming.Thanks!

  • Daddy

Pretty cool, I was playing in a "Mance" mode the last few days then saw your video post

    Great Sound

    Thanks!

  • Very nice!!

  • Great feeling Daddy!

    I have a small request:

Could you do a video of the room in which you play your good stuff? I think that the room is full of memories and great players.

    Thank you!

  • five. I like the way your hatband matches your slide. Open A, eh? hmm. same as open g but up one--I'm going to mess around with it, I always go to g.

  • Oh, man...that one just happens to be my favorite of all the Lipscomb tunes(vol 2..side one..track two..If my memory serves me properly.) You nailed the sound including the "twangy" sound of the strings under the slide. Your slide don't click and rattle on the frets like the pocket knife does.. but that's probably an improvement. I never get enough of the Lipscomb sound. Thank you very much.

  • Oh Man!!Daddy You aint slippin, you just Slidin!!!Great as Usual, I could listen to These So called simple Blues all day!! Not too much can Touch its Feel, its from the Heart, Right from the Start Its Real!! 5 Stars!!

  • I love your playing!it's so relaxing!once again that inspired me some nice blues stuff!!!

  • yo daddy ya'll got that mojo workin' big 10 stars from bluespower..(open g?)whats the ax ,superb tone .thanx

  • Thanks, all of you, for the compliments. I'm in open A and playing an old Stella.

  • Thanks Daddy,

Loved the tone. Also, so you know I noticed, "I love the way your slide match's your band around your nice hat" nice coordination.

    Kevin
