things have moved on quite a bit since this vid was made , i use a dell studio xps with 8 gig of ddr3 ram and a 1 gig nvidia graphics card , the editing software is pinnacle studio 12 ultimate , and to be honest , the editing is realy easy with that set up , everything works as it should , and yes i have a hf 100 and the youtube hd vids are superbe , just create the movie file in divX 16.9 , and you should get the same results as me
I have a top of the range macpro with adobe CS4 package (including premiere pro) and it will not edit without jumps and clicks and jitters. Its driving me crazy and I don't know what to do about it!
I know this is kind of an old video, but these cameras can be found for a lot cheaper now. In the vid its mentioned that its hard to backup these big 1gig/2gig/3gig files.. really? DVD Burners cost $30 now and a 100-pack costs like $20? Takes 5-10 mins to burn a DVD? Not hard compared to just keeping tapes around
this is a great camcorder. no problem. once you convert the video with the program that comes with the camcorder, u can use any video editing program u wish to use. when u plug the hf10 2 the computer, once u save the file 2 the computer u then open up the program that came with the hf10, click browsin & authoring, click video u want, click file, click export, set destination 2 save file, click export to computer. then it saves to computer as a regular video that u can edit w/any video program
Sony Vegas Pro 9 or 8 works well with this format. Sony and Panasonic developed Avchd. No you can not use the lower end Sony Vegas software. Final Cut even in the Pro versions you still have to download the plug in.
That's one of the worst tech reviews I've EVER seen. I'd have liked to have heard more about the camera, and less whining about software. This camera in excellent!
uncutfilm The latest version does. If your final cut wont read the files than you'll need a program called Voltaic (thats what I have to use). Check out my music video all recorded on the HF10
? i have 5 gigs internal storage 1 or two here and there isnt really a problem these days hell if it gets full ill just get another tb drive or....when they are cheaper 2tb drives at a time
The larger the drives get the less reliable they become. There are more erros getting corrected that you never know about. Having a copy on tape "might" be better in the long run since all drives do fail eventually. I am unsure on the shelf life of a properly stored tape vs a hard drive though.
that is completely wrong, the reliability of drives come from construction and use. Generally more to do with the person using them, whether you take care not to bash them defragment and format after use etc.
but yeah all hdds have a finite amount of use, but arent the "drives" inside these cameras not drives but just flash memory?
Does this guy work for Sony? He never said anything about the camera itself; just his own inability to edit! Oh, and "you'll never back up your files, so use tape! WTF
i wouldnt haha vegas sucks...sorry i mean there are much better alternatives it doesnt suck its just not comprable to final cut or aftereffects/premiere
lol Vegas complicated?? I think this guy is living under a rock we know as WinDVD creator and Windows Movie Maker. Vegas has to be the most intuitive and easiest editing programs I've Used.
Unfortunately, there are none :( AVCHD is the only file format that can keep high quality footage with low bite right now. It's easy to tranfer file into PC but it takes time to decore into video file format that we can edit. So for the time being, HDV is still the best choice and the camera that can satisfy everyone maybe Canon HV30.
sony vegas is not hard and complacated to use, thats the second clip ive saw that you have said that, anyone who has ever used a video editing package of any sort could use it no problem, if fact my friends 11 year old son uses it all the time
Can you explain me one very important thing, namely why I don't will be happy using video clips (from the cam) for web ? The clips don't look good on the web. Although since I did the review, I found that of the video formats, if you save to MPEG2 they are more acceptable.

im confused,, i love this camcorder and am planning on buying it... what i find unusual is, if its capable of recording at full hd resolution(1080p) why doesn't it have an hdmi output to view things at full hd resolution(1080p).. all it has is component out which only goes up to 720p.. how do i make videos or dvds or even watch it on my hd tv in true HD(1080p)???
This Camera has a Mini HDMI conector besides the component option I wonder Why you say it doesn´t. maybe you are confused because the cable is not included. but you can get one at BestBuy or circuit city
1. I don't have a HD TV. Is there any way I can view the videos from the camcorder on to my TV.
2. I read somewhere that you can't burn Standard DVDs with this. Is this true? Can I make regular SD DVDs using the software that comes with the camcorder?
You can also use Nero 8 ultra to convert AVCHD raw .m2ts to MPEG2, 25mbps, 2-pass VBR for editing in any program at a reasonably fast rate. I can easily edit .m2ts files at native res in real-time using Nero Vision on a core 2 duo! I've heard that this camera has a good OIS. Mini-DV Tape cameras don't offer full 1080p (1080x1920) instead they use 1080i x 1440 which is anamorphic for 16x9 and interlaced images are bad for motion. I think The HF10 is the best u can currently get!
Hmm.. I had no problem whatsoever editing AVCHD using Sony Vegas Pro. And I only have a Core 2 PC with 1 GB of RAM with Windows XP x64.
I really don't see what your issues with that could be. I used to edit a lot of x264 singlepass lossless encoded video using Vegas as well, and all you need is a bit of patience sometimes to have it loaded in cache, but nothing really big or annoying.
hmmm i want to get this camera but would want to do some major editing along with it
i do have sony vegas so that wouldn't be a problem, but it seems that AVCHD doesn't work with adobe products (i would also be using adobe after effects 7.0)
i may have to get a different camera now...which disappoints me
Hey Very Nice video! I just bought Sony Vegas Pro 8 but can't transfer any AVCHD files.... I also downloaded the Vegas Movie Studio 8 Trial and had no luck either...HELP!
You need at least 4 GB RAM to run Pinnacle Studio 11, and even with that, I found it to be a little slow, especially when editing AVCHD clips. For non-AVCHD clips, you can get away with less RAM.
Hey there. Seems to me that all the HD footage I've seen have flickering effect to them. I'm watching these on a regular monitor. Is this the reason? I'm in the market to buy now, before my vacation. sony sr10 or ux20...anything(hybrid)hard drive and a flash card to record VIDEO,not just pics. Which do you recommend? If they all flicker,I'll just have to stick with my good old TRV 950. thank you.
First off, great review, I thought this was really helpful :) In the section where you were talking about software compatability though, you didn't mention more professional softwares such as Adobe After Effects. Would it be compatible with that? And if not, is there any way I could convert the AVCHD format into an AVI compressed with a Lagarith Lossless codec? No that is not the only difference.
The new HF11 has a 24MPBS capturing option. This allows you to capture super fast scenes like ping pong games, tennis games, and other fast sports...
The size of the memory and this new movie option is the only difference..
