I am British, but I have so much respect and love for these American men who sacrifised their lives for us. Despite this, I will remember soldiers perhaps not on our side in this war, but they too fought for lives, and they too lost many. So too all soldiers that fought for lives, past and present, thankyou and godbless your souls.
@QuinyThePooh Yes its was based on the Niland brothers, 4 brothers went to war and 3 died but it was rumored that only 2 died and one was in a japenesse prison camp.
@KingDiamondHead Within 10 to 20 mins of landing 300 to 400 men were already dead on omaha and every sergeant and officer of the 116RCT where either killed or wounded. And by 10am only 300 men had managed to struggle ashore safley.
@KingDiamondHead Well lets see, omaha beach was strictly an american operation, the story of soldiers trying to find a soldier and bring him home was based of on an american family the nilands(4 brothers went to war and 3 where killed). This movie was shown through the eyes of American GIS, spielbergs wasnt trying to exclude the canadians or the britishs. Just because the movies just shows the americans side of the war doesnt mean other countrys did any less.Bless all allied troops not only US.
@KingDiamondHead No im educating you fool, Lets remember now The american landed on Utah and Omaha(4 infantry division at utah and 1st and 29th at omaha) the Brits had Sword and Gold beach (British 2nd army at sword and the British 50th Infantry Division at Gold) and the canadians at Juno(3rd Canadian Infantry divsion).
@KingDiamondHead In the fog morning, the B17 bombers had overshot the nazi defences by 5 kilometers. 446 planes dropped 13,000 bombs during the prebombardment of the beaches and not a single one did damaged to the nazi defences which where dug deep into the cliffs. As the americans landed the powerful tide swept many men and vehicles back out to the sea and 10 landing craft had sunk. In particular all but 2 of the DD floating tanks sank which where suppossed to give the ground troops support.
This movie is excellent. It's themes are so simple, yet rooted so deeply within each of us and our society. It illustrates the point of regular men trying to do the decent thing in a world of terror and darkness. It proves to us, in a world filled with violence, war, and death, that decency still exists, and that, while the struggle may be great, doing the right thing is still worth it.
That John Miller really was quite a troop...even after copping a round right through the lungs, he pulls his .45 out and started giving it to the tank without a second thought. Although I will say that I reckon most people would probably do the same or similar when they knew thier race was run - I wouldn't hesitate if I knew I was fucked anyway.....
God Bless T K Sessions Jnr and all those brave men and women who paid the ultimate price so that we can ruin the world again. I don't think that they would be very happy with us.
I may not be american, but this movie gave me one hell of a feel... Let us remember all allies who have fallen for our lives, no amount of thanks can be given to the men who died, so we may live in a world free from fascist tyranny
I will never know the brutality, horror, or nightmare of war. The fact that there were brave and courageous souls who were willing to step in and fight such atrocities is something I will never be able to comprehend. But I weep to those who stepped into the valley of hell so I could live the life I live. I hope that at least in their hearts I can show my deepest respect and love for them. Heros never die, they live in all of us. Regardless. Thank you for giving the life I never thought I'd have
Wow. Terrorist state my ass, your definition of terrorism is all wrong. US bombings on Nagasaki and Hiroshima were an act of war, if Iran flew bombers to the US and demolished every major city in the US I would consider it an act of war. Flying yourself into a tower without any apparent reason and not proclaiming war is an act of terror. If some radical Muslim detonated a nuke in DC and no one ever knew how or why he did that it would be terrorism. PS Japan attacked the US first they asked 4 war
thumbs up if when you first saw this one part, you thought he was staring at the cross that had that grey stain on the top left corner, just to the left of his head at 2:53
@amitbarfs Fuck you man. Those vets of all of the allies deserve so much credit. Nuclear terrorism? The Nazis killed over 11 million people, Nagasaki and Hiroshima combined killed 250,000. Thats 44 times less people than the holocaust. The Japanese were brutal and ruthless killing 3-10 million people. It was the best way to end the war, So give these vets some credit you ignorant jerk. RIP and god bless all of them they truly were the greatest.
@amitbarfs I do and so should you. I don't care who you are and what you think but the allies truly saved the world. You say how horrible the nuclear bombings were but when I even mention the holocaust you reply "who cares?" That is just insufferable and utter hypocrisy! You are a miserable excuse for a person, I would note if you were being starved in a Japanese prison camp or participated in the Bataan Death march you would be thinking differently. Your a hypocrite and an asshole. God BlessUSA
Um I said who cares in response to your attempt to excuse USA's nuclear terrorism by noting that the Nazis killed more people.
Doesn't change the fact that USA is a terrorist state, by definition. Imagine if Iran dropped a nuke on two USA cities. I would hope you would have the logical consistency to call that terrorism.
@amitbarfs By definition, what the USA did was not terrorism. It was an act of war. They're completely different things. I personally disagree with the USA's bombings of Japan, but to call them a terrorist state is ludicrous. Terrorists do what they do because they feel they're being ignored and that the only way to get their view across is through drastic measures. However, the purpose of the bombings was to end a war, not get attention.
They had free will, and most certainly had a choice. They are no less complicit in their actions than were the bozos who flew hijacked planes into NYC buildings.
@amitbarfs I'm not saying it was right, but it is what it is. Besides, what fueled the terrorists was/is religion. Two different ends of the spectrum, sir.
@adamohmg You're approach is no good either. Trying to claim that 9/11 was fueled by some sort of evil religion (Islam that is) is no better then blaming all Christians for the atrocities of the Westborough Baptist Church. They're different because one was unprovoked, while the other was the only way to stop a more gruesome, violent, bloodshed. Both are tragic, but one was fueled by hate and malice, while the other was fueled by necessity. That makes it two ends of the spectrum.
@iaiceikiingi47i I think it goes without saying that one was necessity, while the other was pure hatred. Thus why I didn't feel the need to point that out, it's common sense. And I never said "evil" religion, just religion.
@adamohmg Once again you're missing the point, there's a difference in between an attack based on religion and an attack based out of hatred. 9/11 was hatred, calling it a religious attack only glorifies the monsters who did it and causes widespread Islamic persecution. Yes they claim it was fueled by religion, but their true motives have nothing to do with religion.
@iaiceikiingi47i They were religious zealots. It was because of hatred and religion; i.e. their radical Islamic views. Surely you've dabbled in world news the last...oh say 10 years and seen the home videos that the 9/11 terrorists made. Anytime the word "infidel" and "Mohammad" arise it's a fairly clear indication that their radical religious views played their part. Just saying.
@adamohmg This really has nothing do to with this video, but there version of the Islamic religion is so perverse that I don't think it's even fair to say that it's Islamic. As you're saying they have "radical ISLAMIC views," but they've gone so far off the deep end that it's not even Islam any more. It's not really fair to say that it's because of Islam, but rather it's because they're an evil group of people. Religion may be used to brainwash, but it's not really on the minds of the leaders.
Religion is only partly what fueled them; USA's foreign policy accounts for a large part of their actions. USA installs dictators in their countries and meddles in their affairs. Switzerland doesn't.
@amitbarfs Please, this is a film scene about the horror of war, could've been any war, and a man having to live with the burden of another having laid down his life to give him one. Can we not debate religion and US foreign policy? Comes a time to put that to one side and acknowledge war has horrible casualties and haunts those who serve it, on both sides, forever.
Yu sir are the foolish one. So you would have let Hitler take over Europe? You would have let Japan turn China into their slave state. Think before you speak. War is bad. But when it comes to Freedom It must be fought for. If not then Evil would walk all over the ideas of Free Men.
We are not speaking on War today. We are speaking on the WW2 the last great War of Humankind. Everyone who watches this video. This fools name is amitbarfs. He hates War so much he is stating that he would have let Hitler Take over Europe and that he would have let Japan turn China into a slave state. Hitler was executing Jews. if not for the war they would be exterminated. Japan was turning Chinese men and women into slaves. Treating them like trash. Those sir are acts of terrorism!
We had to take Direct action when we were attacked. Freedom had to be protected against tyranny. War now in our time has changed. But Don't come here on a WW2 vid and try to say some bullshit like this war was fought for money. THis War was fought against Evil Ideals and Evil Men. I'm proud and I respect everyman who has gave their life for this country and for freedom. Because f the Axis would have won. I would not be here. Like I said before read before you speak. Boy.....
Regardless. Thank you for giving the life I never thought I'd have.
I thank all the men and women who gave there lives on the battlefield. I thank you for all that you have done. I thank you for the saving our world from the Axis. May you all Rest In Peace...
My one wish is for all these WW2 vets. I wish they would live forever. These men deserve immortality for what they did. Im only 13 and i have alot of years left. I only hope that i could give up some of my years and add on the life of these brave souls. To think in 20 years there will be no more WW2 vets.
i love it when such great videos like this have 0 dislikes! as a english person im honored to say thank you america you are a great nation for what you did in WW2 :)
Thank god the Brooklyn NY boy took the time to take the orders out of the Capt's Pocket to prove Mission Accomplished,,, or there would be no story , maybe..
...at committing acts of nuclear terrorism on innocent people and denying Japanese-Americans their freedom and denying African-Americans their right to vote.
@amitbarfs Nuclear terrorism? The Japs werent going to surrender, it was the only way to end it, plus considering the appalling crimes the Japs committed against civilians and allied pows they deserved nothing less. Denying Jap Americans their freedom? Ok so yeah the Japanese Americans were an easy target, mainly due to the size of the population, if the US authorities were to to that to the German Americans or the Italian Americans they would have had to clear out nearly everyone in New York!
@amitbarfs If that statement is too long for you to read, then you're too stupid and/or ignorant to even bother replying to in the first place. Troll harder, breh.
@amitbarfs Every generation has its faults. Every generation thinks they're right. Maybe in like 20 years, the children will look back at our generation and realize the atrocities we committed without us realizing. For example, not long ago, homosexuals used to be considered insane and were subjected to asylums. Later generations found this untrue. In other words, we pride ourselves in thinking we are better than the previous generation which, unfortunately, blinds us at our faults.
My Grandfather (Taylor Kenneth Sessions, Jr) fought in the Korean War in Co.B 35th Infantry, 25th Division. When i was 11 years old, he had me sit down and watch this movie with my brother. He wanted us to realize how lucky we are to live in this country and appreciate the men who fought to preserve our freedoms. He always told us, "Every day is a bonus". He was my hero, and the most Patriotic man ive ever known. He passed away in 2001.
If you ever want evidence that the Academy doesn't always know best, look no further than them giving "Shakespeare in Love" Best Picture instead of "Saving Private Ryan." What a crime.
I think Miller's final words, "earn this," are the ones all fallen American soldiers would tell us. So many in this world have lived and died without ever experiencing the freedom we do everyday. We're lucky people. I hope each of us tries in our own way to make their sacrifices worth it.
Btw Great Video clip - too bad Corps like Google capitalize on it and make money but FAIL at honesty, and giving Back!!! Properly to educate and expand
Google get a life and fire your idiots who write the lil word puzzles, they are not worth the money! I beat their heads in every time,,, because I don't Quit! I'd bang on you forever because you are NOT Honest and have NO Honor!!
Google censorship is worse than Nazi Germany's I can prove it 50 attempts at their puerile test of can you read this slop writing froma 5 yr old and 48 of 50 correct Google is a Lying sack of crap corp
Who knows maybe Chuck Yeager (WW2 Ace Btw) might have been that P-51D that hit the tank that some morons with pea brains think Capt Miller shot down with 50 bullets from his 45 as taught to you by some Idiots with Modern tech re edits and of course Google's Compliance and allowing such Inanities on their Memory banks ..
This is one of the Best Movies because of this scene right here and the Bridge scene, and I think will be one of the best movies not because of the action, but what Miller said on the bridge, and what Ryan says at the Grave. Truly, truly sad.
I lost it when he said "Tell me I'm a good man." I'm not ashamed to admit that I bawled when I first saw it and continue to tear up every time I see it. War is hell.
@PadraikKasier agreed. same here, man. hell, im getting ready to go in myself and im not ashamed to admit this movie has caused more than a few nightmares

Switzerland doesn't.
amitbarfs 2 months ago
@amitbarfs Please, this is a film scene about the horror of war, could've been any war, and a man having to live with the burden of another having laid down his life to give him one. Can we not debate religion and US foreign policy? Comes a time to put that to one side and acknowledge war has horrible casualties and haunts those who serve it, on both sides, forever.

no. a movie is just a movie, but any time a politician sends ppl to die and kill it should be addressed. hence i am addressing it.

Yu sir are the foolish one. So you would have let Hitler take over Europe? You would have let Japan turn China into their slave state. Think before you speak. War is bad. But when it comes to Freedom It must be fought for. If not then Evil would walk all over the ideas of Free Men.
food4j 2 weeks ago
@food4j
War is just terrorism with a bigger budget. If you are excusing war then you are excusing terrorism against men women and children.

@amitbarfs
Those sir are acts of terrorism!
food4j 2 weeks ago
@food4j
Boy.....

Regardless. Thank you for giving the life I never thought I'd have.

My one wish is for all these WW2 vets. I wish they would live forever. These men deserve immortality for what they did. Im only 13 and i have alot of years left. I only hope that i could give up some of my years and add on the life of these brave souls. To think in 20 years there will be no more WW2 vets.

This is one of the Best Movies because of this scene right here and the Bridge scene, and I think will be one of the best movies not because of the action, but what Miller said on the bridge, and what Ryan says at the Grave. Truly, truly sad.
