  • Why, will someone please tell me, why, do directors have this vision of doing such lousey stage businness with Gilbert and Sullivan?????????

  • Too much "business" -- I didn't bother watching it through. Anachronistic costuming didn't help either.

  • If you watch the other scenes (and this one for a matter of fact) then I think you will find this is quite a departure from the Derby production. I believe the Derby production was staged on the village green infront of the Cricket Pavillion but that is about as far as it went - it didn't include a cricket match or a streaker!

  • hang on a moment this is very close to derby G&S's Ruddigore

  • Did Derby set their Ruddigore at a cricket match then?

  • yeah they did but insted of having a blank background they had the local parish church and graveyard.

  • yes they did and they usually copy them.

  • Letting the girls do most of the hornpipe was cute

  • The Dick Dautless Has a good voice but he lacks depth. Also the costumes are not quite right and the bit with the trouser was annoying. I like Zorh's over enthusiasm makes the later pairing make more sense. I liked the buisness with them getting him to dance a hornpipe. Also the hornpipe itself is exciting and kudos to the orchestra for sounding so nautical in the orchestra.
