Missingno may glitch out some graphics, and maybe some sounds, but that M thing is the real game killer that will destroy your save. This is verifiable with relative ease using savestates. Missingno is actually fairly harmless to your game's data; M is death incarnate.

Missingno is the data for Marowak's evolution. Kangaskhan was the planned evolution of Marowak, but last minute decisions made Kangaskhan it's own pokemon. The Couldn't delete the data, so they made it into the missingno

If you have a hall of fame and just FIND missingno, your hall of fame gets "nuked" and everything screws up.

The worst that can happen is erase your game unless you really abuse this.
