This is my absolute favorite movie. I was never able to watch it when I was young and I was always curious about it. My dad used to say "It's a daddy movie". Then one day, he finally said, I want you to watch this movie, I think you will like it and I put it off, not interested...then finally I watched it and I am obsessed. Thanks Dad :)
@winstonlin143 on one of the parts they were alone talking that they said they lived in the same city but they felt like they were in different worlds :)
I don't understand why Kate Hudson (Penny Lane) ran away, it just seemed like a cheap gimmick to have William Miller(Patrick Fugit) run after her so we could have this contrived moment of them meeting alone.
@chocolateboy01152:54, he lowers her eyebrows. because when they first meet, she does that to him, and says "now you look mysterious" - it was to be like he's too hopeful/innocent/naive/etc and she was introducing him to the life of rock n roll. and now she's lost her wall and become vulnerable
The fact that they play "My Cherie Amour" when Penny Lane is getting her stomach pumped is just genius. That moment is one of the most beautiful moments in film....The whole juxtaposition of it.....I can't get enough of this movie
Found this posting a few months ago--looks right to me: It's called 'Cabin in the Sky'. It's by Nancy Wilson (formerly of Heart, and now Mrs. Cameron Crowe), written specifically for the film as part of the score.
It's called 'Cabin in the Sky'. It's by Nancy Wilson (formerly of Heart, and Mrs. Cameron Crowe), written specifically for the film as part of the score.
What's the title of the song? Is it Love & Departure? Because I've been searching and all I can come up is a fusion of Elton John's Tiny Dancer and Stevie Wonder's My Cherie Amour. Thanks in advance.
Every time I see this, I wonder if Penny's realization on the plane is her recalling the 'unconscious' moment in the hotel room when William tells her he loves her. I guess I choose to think so...
Maybe because this film, though 'made' to attract a certain audience, also has the ring of truth in it. Having lived in San Diego during the years the film was set in, I can say it caught the feeling / dreams / attitudes / drama / games, of the time and of the players in the crazy world that was 'being with the band' . TokeyOnaDobie: May you never lose that part of you, that can feel anothers pain, or their joy.
thanks gulfgypsy, your one lucky person, i wish i was around to enjoy the 70s, pity i have to grow up with all the crappy music and mind numbing films that plague audiences now, closet i got to having a time like the 70s was at the end of the britpop era in britain when i was 13
i love that part where it finally dawns on penny how crazy in love william was with her. you could see it in her face, the exact moment when the realization hit her. and then she looks outside and sees william running inside the airport building trying to keep up with the plane as it takes off, waving like mad at her. and it only confirms what she's just found out.
@jacie08 I think she always knew he was in love with her, I think when she looks outside the window of the plane is when she finally realizes how much she cares about him.
@jacie08 I don't think she's realizing how in love with her he is. I think she knew that all along. I think it's when she realizes how important to her he is. It was the moment she realized that for all the times Russell hurt her, He was always there, and because of that she got the courage to finally "tell" Russell goodbye and go to Morocco for real instead of talking about it and find herself.
I've watched movie so many times and it's just occured to me that William supplies a fake name for someone who goes by a pseudonym. Guess it's just heat of the moment.
i absolutely love the scene when theres a close up on penny's face, and she says "why doesnt he love me?" i ALWAYS feel like crying after she says it. i think this is one of the films that could potentially change the viewer's life, or make their day at least.
Kate Hudson rocks in this movie! Patrick dealt with Penny in this scene so amazingly for such a young kid - old beyond his years! and the amazing music is so great....
Love the music in this film, makes you feel..
