  • replace servo, check receiver and 2in1 unit

  • How long you had your heli? Nice stuff.

  • Not the batterie for sure. Mine did the same... It is the servos. Change them for hitec HS65mg ( for Metal Gear). Then you might have to calibrate the "tavel adjust" on your TX to your "tast". Good luck.

  • had the same problem myself. it flew great a few times and then all of a sudden it would roll to the right and hit the ground. the second time i almost saved it but it still crashed. gonna replace the servos

  • seems like you may have broken teeth in the servo gears or the small circut board might be damaged,

after even a slight crash you will break servo teeth in the gear box, you can replace them with a new set but i would recomend metal geared servos or a recomended brand like hitec or such

the less likely event it could be the tx or rx thats the problem, horizon hobby did a recall on the dx6i some time back that might be the cause too

  • ha. Same thing with mine except I was able to save it. Landed hard on the tips of the skids and blades grazed the ground but full neg pitch got her flat. Thanks for the tip on putting pressure on it to see if it recovers and it did. HS-65's here we come.

  • Isn't the receiver recalled for this?

Check the Horizon Hobby product page, they have the recall notice there.

  • Sorry, meant the transmitter / remote was recalled.

  • you may need new servo gears the stock servos suck get a set of new gears they cost 3 bucks did you center them after the fix

  • did you center all your servos after the repair you have to center them at midstick

  • Same issues , got 3 HS-5065-MG servos last June , now every time I want to fly it's good to go! I had nothing but problems with the stock servos and I can honestly say this was the best investment I've made in this hobby! Over 30 flights with new servos and not One problem ,and remember to reverse direction of new servos on your dx6i if you get the 5065mg .

  • I had EXACTLY same problem with EXACTLY same servo. The heli was 15 feet over my head when it got a mind of its own and came down at me, hitting me full on in my back. Massive welts and cuts across my back. Right this minute am installing Hitec HS 65mg's. Screw the standard servo's...........DANGEROUS!!

  • Had the same problem. The servo does not want to handle all that load. Replace it.

  • how much did it cost you each repair?

  • I had similar servo issues. after 7 servos, local shop + importer upgradde me to Hi-tec carbonites and all's well. Definitely go for new servos!

  • is it hard to replace those servos? i planning on buying a blade 400, just wonder how hard is it to replace those servos? and u kept the old receiver or got a new receiver as well?

  • no, it's quite easy. Search for "finless helicopter videos" and you'll see some good lessons!

  • Do what most including myself have done, switch to hitec 65 mg servos and never have a servo problem ever again bud ;) But remember to revese servo directions in dx6i or they will work backwards

  • servo's are fuck compleetly so stop flying with that and first buy new servo's

what people dont know with these machines ,they brake ezly so you need to have a lot of spare parts ....

  • Bad conection on servo.

  • Not transmitter try new servos like hitie hs 55

  • You know that the DX6I has a recall on some date codes, too. Go to Spektrum's website and check it out. You can use the monitor feature of the radio to see if that is part of the issue.

  • Check my video "how to fix e-flite servos" lol i remember going through this. wait till u upgrade servos and everythings backwards thats fun fun.

  • well, I know of 3 reasons for this.

    1) temperature. Flying the heli at temps below 0C is not fun at all. the servos get all slow and start twitching. happens to me cause i fly it in -10C.

    2) moisture on the receiver board or even inside the servos. hold a hairdryer to the servo/receiver for a while. this also happens to me 'cause of humidity changes.

    3) shitty eflite servos. upgrade to hitec. they are pricy, but no more random crashes.

  • You could have stripped your servo but i think the real cause is that a wire broke its connection. You may need to resolder your connections in the bottom of the servo. Don't get discouraged.

  • buddy you have stripped your servo gears on the first crash hence the non responsive or intermittent servo movement now

  • I think your right. I did a quasi auto rotation and landed hard. No crash, but I suspect the hard landing stripped the gear initially. The stock servos are suspect and I recommend replacing them.

  • Wow this is serious and kinda scary! I am getting this heli next for my second heli, mainly because of the dx6i did you contact horizon about this? Thnx for the heads up!

    Cheers Lee.

  • i just bought the blade 400, and all ive done is hover...no crash...no hard landing...and im having some servo problems...1 day after buying it....i need to upgrade already....

  • UPDATE:

I put 3 JR DS287MG servos in my B400 and WOW, what a difference. They really made my heli come to life. I highly recommend upgrading the stock servos to high end, high speed ones. Not only do I get peace of mind knowing that the servo gears won't fail in flight, but I now get a super responsive heli that is even more fun to fly than when I originally purchased it. The JR servos were expensive but SO WORTH IT.

    Have fun and good luck.

  • Out of the box I was flying my blade 400 in a low hover and the engine cuts out. So I throttle down and take a look at it, as I'm walking over I see that the ESC is on FIRE. Im like fuck I've flown this thing less than 6min total and its on fire. Do you know what that can be?

  • YIKES! I have no clue. Sounds like a warranty issue that Horizon Hobby will fix.

  • Ya I've already sent it to them the problem is its been more than a month that they have had it.

  • @wes654654 I've bought THREE Blade 400's and lost TWO ESC's that smoked out like that. The servos, ESC's, & gyro's are crap. I now have a Trex 450 pro and a Trex 500 3G and CAN'T BELIEVE what a difference. I actually spend as much time flying as I used to spend in frustrating rebuilds on the Blade 400. I bought three B's so I could actually fly when I got to the park.

  • i gotta idmit this is so much fun im geting a blade 400 on my b day i so cant wait

=) but im kinda scared to crash it =(

  • Yep. So fun, but don't worry about crashing. Easy and cheap to repair. The more you do it, the easier it gets.

    Enjoy.

  • Get new servos, I have the JR DS285s. Actually with your skill level you should get the metal gear version the JR DS285MG. Eflite saved some money with the stock servos.

  • I put the JR DS287MGs in it and WHAT A DIFFERENCE. Seems like it is twice as responsive now than the stock setup and I'm not freaked out about it failing in flight anymore.

    Awesome.

  • So... is it working , or not working ? okay so we get it already

  • To all who said they will be better off buying Trex 450. Blade 400 is the best intermediate heli for the price. Unless someone has spent enough stick time on learing how to fly, it will crash no matter it is a Trex or not. And servo placement in Blade400 is way easier to repair without removing the servo from the frame. Trex servo placements are very difficult to fix the servo. It needs to remove totally from the frame and it is really difficult to put them back. Thanks everybody.

  • In a crash, many things ( all of them) can be damaged, but HOW to test things ( take apart the servos) is This is why I like the new plug n play ( no x mitter) for $274, start over again. I have just ordered a B400 without elctrics, for 110 bucks. I will put in GOOD servos and Gyros, and give it another try. Half the fun is in repairing it, but the only info comes from us, not the factory. A newbie needs much more support from manufacturers, in the way of a REAL repair manual.

  • dude tell me about it, that stupid thing took off and almost cut my head off and it was tosted. $400 down the tubes. fuck eflite.

  • I assure you this helicopter flies great. It didn't just take off and crash all by itself... you made that happen somehow. If you're not a good heli pilot, don't get a Blade 400 - it's not for noobs. I put 10-15 flights a week on mine and it's good. E-flite is a good company - I have lots of their stuff and it's some of the best value in the industry.

  • I agree entirely. I think a tough landing is all it takes to strip these servos, so just don't land hard or crash, and these stock servos work great. I Love flying my B400.

  • i had this after a crash, it has stripped a couple of teethy of the internal gears i replaced mine with a hitec metal geared micro servo.

  • well, try to tightin down the screws on all the servos see what it would do

  • Did you solve the problem?

  • Yes, I replaced the bunk servos with the stock servos again. I know it is a time-bomb so I have since moved on to flying a Raptor 50 nitro. Way better!.

    Regards.

  • you suck man. you are a jackass no it all.you dont no what i did. I paid a better heli flyer than you cold ever be and he did not know what the hell happend. scroo you

  • Wow. I'm speechless.

  • hey sorry i was a dick. but i mean i was mad because you really dont no what happend. so no hard feelings:)

  • He's a jackass? You should finish kindergarten before mommy and daddy allow you to play with the computer,

  • dude come on. you back up him. have you seen what he said how i am stupid it was my fault that it crashed. I didint say any thing mean to you. and you dont no what happend. haha :)

  • Stupid S75s - they suck. My tail servo stripped in flight. Replaced with Hitec servos all around. Stupid S75s - they SUCK!

Nice demonstration of a stripped servo though.

  • Hey, you gotta get some good aftermarket digital servos. I had nothing but problems with the stock servos it came with.

  • hi mate,so have you sent it back yet?or are you going to put a different make of servos in,as i have just got one of these and saw this video lol, hope mine stay the course and good luck with yours mate.

  • well thats just put me off buying one of those

  • Just don't land hard or crash. If you do check the servos and repair if necessary. I regret posting this video because the B400 is a ton of fun and will fly 3D right out of the box. I still love mine and fly it daily.

    Regards.

  • Mine just crashed for the same reason. I am not happy. It went full speed into the ground and was unresponsive to commands.

  • I sent my Blade 400 back to Horizon almost a month a go for servo and a bout 10 other issues. They still have not even looked at my heli. If I would have know then what I know now, I would have got the Trex! So, I will keep waiting for Horizon~

  • and thats what i did i saved up some more money about 1000 mabe more and got a trex se v2 its going ok with the trex but been realy windy and rainy here so not flyin

well hope it gets fixed lol

  • if it were me, i would call Eflite and they would have gotten a bitch slap from me.

  • I know, right? They told me to ship it back to them and I'll see it again in 4-8 weeks. I just keep replacing servos.

  • Hi and Hello to all of you. I own a Blade 400 now since about 4 weeks. I have had the same shi... going on. One servo after the other did go bad on me. All the gears are fine but the servos did work and than it did not. What a pain !! The Blade 400 is a great starter heli but now after 4 weeks of hoovertraining, I purchased a Trex 450. Much much better to deal with. I will post some info's in the next days about I get along. Thanks and Regards to all Heli friends
  • The servos on this thing sucks. Matter of fact everything on this sucks but to make the most of this succky heli take the servo off the tail rotor and put it where the bad servo is and then buy a digital metal gear for your tail. about 20 bucks. then once you figure out how to hover and your tail wont stay straight get the 401 gyro and also some plastic blades while you are at it. and once you stop crashing get all the blue upgrades and you will have one bad azz heli.

  • buy new servos u cheepo and hover last more than 1 sec oh and it is a stuffed servo get metal gear ones next time they last longer

  • You sure the sprocket inside the servo isn't just missing a tooth? Thats a pretty common thing to break when you crash. If that has happened you have to put a little tension on it to engage it just like what you are seeing.

  • You're probably right.

  • A ccpm heli servo test.

hold the swash plate with the heli off the ground and it should be able to lift the heli up and down.

  • I had the same problem with my rudder servo recently. I had already replaced the cyclic servos with Hitec HS-65HB servos after stripping some gears and finding that the gear sets were on national backorder. I left the DS75 on the tail since the gears were fine on that one. Then I tried test flying it and noticed the tail wasn't responding. I did some testing and had the same issues you're seeing--sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't, even if I plugged it directly into the receiver.

  • i had the same problem they just got stuck and took a nose dive!!

  • thats why you go w/ hs-55bb or hs-55mg servos... i also went with a hs-65h for the tail because its a high speed servo. for one make sure your gyro is in the standard mode instead of digital.... if you accidently put it in digital servos, the ds75's cannot withstand the pulse rate of 275hz. plus the ds75s gears strip out even if you do a semi hard auto *which made me have to replace mine*

  • its definetly the servo mine did the same thing its got a dead spot for some reason ,sometimes if you have a rough landing that will strip or ruin servos

  • Hey, there must be some money making changes to be able to give you full package fo little bit over $400.0 dollars. Now you wonder why helis like T-Rex are over one grand with accessories..... :-) I have this heli at home only becouse i was wonderring what it is that E-Flite can put inside the box for the money they are asking. I like it and had no problem so fare. I also have T-rex, with upgrades and real radio from JR, love it. How many minutes on blue battery?

  • Servos for sure! Cheep for sure! Need to change them and test before install for full motion few times. There is a digital tiny board inside registering travel if the main shaft of servo and special reader brush reading it. When the contact between them is not present servo wont move. That is why when you get the servo out of the dead reading spot by touching it, starts to work for a while untill it gets to that cold spot again.

  • i had the same issues and because of the servos locking on me, I also crashed mine twice! I learned that lubrication helped a bunch but still was not reliable. I changed all my cyclic servos to DSP75 spektrum and have not had an issue since! I think the cheap servos have a bad record and are not as strong! Also the frequency change from non digital to digital makes (i Believe) the servo react much faster and not allow it to lock in angles! (play with servo travel on tx! lower it to 95% on all!

  • The JR flghtpack is well worth it

  • i bought a blade 400 5 weeks ago, after second flight noticed battery was a dud, i bought new batery and a servo died, killed all 3 servos. looked very similiar to whats happening to you. i sent mine in and havent seen it for 3 weeks. I had a whopping 8 mins of flight on it. not impressed.

  • Or you buy a gear set for $2.99.Alot cheaper to learn on.

  • Or you buy a gear set for $2.99.Alot cheaper to learn on.

  • You're not the only one that had servo problem's you should replace all your servo. JR makes a digital servo combo for around $179.00 eflite servos are cheap plastic gear servo do yourself a favor and swap them out

  • I had a blade strike with the ground once, and it had jolted everything and stripped gears in the servos. After I replaced the servo gears, it would 'twitch' like its got Terets. I just replaced them all with Hitec 65MG servos and it now much better.

  • Try removing the inoperative servos. Once removed from the helicopter taking the servo apart and check the drive gears inside the servo. To check the gears remove the screws at the either end of the servo. If you see any stripping or worn marks on the servo I would suggest buying new servos. You can upgrade if you feel the need, its completely up to you.

    Hope everything works out better!

  • faulty servos change them for metal geared or it could be the esc not giving enough power

  • Think a sport BEC would help? Or you figure better servos like the DS285 should have been the default setup to avoid this?

  • Hi,

Oh that is not good. Hope that Horizon will give you a good explaination. I never heared about a similar problem and hope that my Blade 400 will stay ok.

I wish you all the best and that your heli will fly again very soon .

    Greetings

    Frank
