  • @lowlifeEK he died doing what he loved racing that crash was at 180-190 MPH.

  • i was 5 when i watched my favorite nascar driver of all time die doing what he loved best

  • love how the yellow car pushing him doesnt stop at all to see if hes alright

    Dale:'IM LOSING CONTROL AHHH

    hits yellow car*

Yellow Car Driver: IM STILL GONNA WIN GODDAMNIT

  • i think he wanned to die in nascar

  • Doesn't look so bad

  • Yeah Debbie, I thought the same thing when it happend. At first it didn't look that serious but, when Dale wasn't moving, I remember thinking ..Oh No, this don't look good at all.

If you look at the slow motion shot though, you can see the initial Impact was much more severe than what it first looked like on TV.

I felt so sorry afterwards watching JR. running towards his Dad's car.

  • If you look at the footage.. the crash doesn't seem that hard O_O

  • lol

  • still breaks my heart

  • in earnhardt we trust

  • in memory of dale earnhardt sr we will miss him forever he stays with us in our hearts and he died of a basillar skull fracture i was at that race with my father and brother i was 7 and when the announcer told us he died i lost my mind so did my father we left the race track went home told my mom it was the sadest moment of my life good luck DALE EARNHARDT JR i hope u become a legend like ur father was

  • 1 nascar faggot down..... alot more to go

  • @00Revelation REVELATION DALE EARNHARDT SR WAS NOT A FAGGOT U NIMROD HE WAS A RACING LEGEND! SHAME ON U SHAMEE

  • @00Revelation he may have pointlessy raced around in circles but still he was a person. RIP Dale

  • @00Revelation it amazes me that you have the mental capacity to even type. and yet, your words speak volumes about the type of person you are. so sad.

  • wtf keep replaying this clip and i still cant figure out how he died? ive seen much worse nascar crashes and the drivers come out untouched? :/

  • @619LimBo his brain dislodged from his stem when he crashed

  • They year 2001 was such a shitty year. I would gladly return it for another.

  • uhm im really confused how did he die? the car barely took a hit ? says massive brain injury so when he slammed into the walla does that mean he shattered his head off the steering wheel or? i just dont get it looks like a pretty light hit

  • @DigiBullet23 Earnhardt died of a basillar skull fracture...they think he hit the steering wheel.

  • Fuck the yellow bastard who kept driving. He should be tried for murder.

  • thumbs if you just watched the indy crash

  • @Koolhwip97 thumbs up if you think this guy is a moron for getting off on crashes...

  • @Koolhwip97 no i will not thumbs up you for enjoying someone dying in a horrific crash. show some respect you stupid stupid person

  • Very sad day in racing

  • R.I.P

  • I came here in reference of Dan Wheldon who died recently on Sunday, October 16 at the 2011 IZOD IndyCar World Championships in Las Vegas.

R.I.P. Dale Earndhart Sr. & Dan Wheldon.

  • I don't think It is a big crush :\

  • Yes, he passed away doing what he loved best, causing trouble being...The Intimidator. The last turn of the last lap of the race, his teammates well ahead of the pack and one poised to win the race, so what does Dale do? He drops down to send Martin onto the infield. It's what he did, it's who he was. It doesn't work out quite the way he planned though. Face it, he died because he was reckless when he didn't need to be.

R.I.P. Dale, thanks for not taking other drivers with you.

  • @krazysteve7423 What I saw was Rusty took the air off his spolier and he got loose, he went down on Sterling alittle bit and they bumped. Dale over corrected and went up the track. Thats what going to races for 40 years taught me.

You really don't think he was fighting to stay in 3rd? You didn't know Earnhardt then. Please show me where Martin went down onto the infield. Martin had nothing to do with this.

  • @TheJer1963 well you dont know much, and havent watched racing for 40 yeasr..well atleast not nascar..thats not martin....its marlin

  • @glynnracing79 Thats what I said, it isn't Martin. It was Sterling Marlin. I think I know how long I have followed the sport to. I was in Bristol when Cale led every lap.

  • @TheJer1963 you have martin not marlin in your post

  • @glynnracing79 Look at my post. Last line, I said Martin had nothing to do with his crash. I said Sterling took the air off his spolier. I asked the poster to show me where Martin had anything to do with it. He was not even near it when it happened.

  • @krazysteve7423 another person who knows nothing about racing and doesnt watch nascar...those were not his teammates.and it was marlin not martin.

  • At least he passed away doing what he loves(:

  • @PS3RedFox1821 dan wheldon hit the catch fence, u do know the indycars do not have a roof.

  • Kick his corpse!

  • When you tell Europeans he was the "intimidator" That think this is a position in this type of relay game. Like "full back" or "short stop" They think Mr. Earnhardt's job was simply killing or hurting other relay players to enable them to reach the front like roller derby. The relay concludes when the largest group assumes another tight formation as when they started. The over all winner, those who've killed or destroyed the largest number of 'intimidators".

  • I miss you Dale Sr.

  • How do you die from that? It barely hit the wall

  • one of the saddest moments in history

this event is what led NASCAR to make the HANS device mandatory

  • to be honost the crash didnt look as bad as it was I thought it was just like a small bump but him dying was a shock to me

  • @WeAreAllAsian

    i thought the same thing

I asked my dad how? it was a minor crash

and he said his neck probably snapped and + there going like 160-200 mph

  • @Chokeslam186 He was wearing a half-helm or something like that, so he wasn't as safe as a Nascar racer should be.

  • @Chokeslam186 I heard it knocked his eyes out of his head!

  • @MrJsmyers Who ever told you that is fucking dumb. You all are dumb as well he died from Basilar skull fracture that is the back of your skull. Look it up

  • Comment removed

  • @MrJsmyers ....His autopsy report is as follows: 1. 8 broken ribs on his left side 2.Broken left ankle 3.Fractured Sternum 4. Blunt Forces to the Head 5, Basil Skull fracture.............

  • @MrJsmyers You seen drawings on paper not photos don't care what you say you the one that say " I heard it knocked his eyes out of his head!" you said HEARD that's not seeing anything and you are the dumb ass if you want me to believe you seen real photos because you are who.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @MrJsmyers And how like I said who are you that they would let you see the real pics. No I'm not a Dale lover I didn't like the guy but I would never say he got what he deserved. I know for a fact that you didn't see the real pics I did a research on him and know that they didn't release the autopsy photos to the public. They past a law where they are not aloud to post to public you FOOL look it up DUMBASS.

  • @sk8ter8645 Allowed not aloud... lol

  • @sk8ter8645 The racing "World" looks upon this as a sort of relay Roller Derby. Cars in the rear (Jammers) attempt to shove cars out while remaining in formation. In turn (Intimidators) from the rear assume there position, crashing anyone that gets in their way. The objective? To finish the relay in the same tight formation in which they began four hours earlier. The winner is determined by the number of other relay cars they were able to wreck or kill. When you think about, they're right!

  • @sk8ter8645 Look it up it wont show you the pictures but there is a list of his injuries...punch in autopsy.com and see for yourself..it also states that his seatbelt did not fail during the wreck. many people think it did...

  • @MrJsmyers no his seatbelt didnt fail he always cut it alittle bit so when he it the wall it broke there is pics of that on the net and all the blood in the car the day after the wreak just look it up you will learn something new about the guy.

  • @sk8ter8645 Have you seen his autopsy photos? I have dude....He had 8 broken ribs on his left side/ a broken sternum and a broken left ankle and there is more dude...Dont call people Dumb...you are dumb for not seeing his autopsy photos....He had a closed casket and there is a big reason for that and you would not want to see his death pics I can assure you of that..

  • @passivepower funny he died u seriously think its funny yea ill luagh when u die

  • @RWJhiga come on, he's not even good at trolling. Why do you waste your time answering to such a dork ?

  • @PierreJeanPierre yea true but he needs to die

  • blocken bitch fuck that cheater

  • @captspaldn yeh you tell em..he was one blocking bitch..that is why he got killed. He came down on Sterlin Marlin and kiled himself!

  • I don't see any particularly violent or jarring moments... what the hell happened to him? Heading to Wikipedia to find out.

  • The day Nascar died.

  • ...and his son is basiclly just driving on his name.

  • @hangtight97 your wrong about that

  • What does Dale Earnhardt and Pink Floyd have in common? Their last hit was the Wall...

  • @mellor101 hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He has had worse crashes than this. It was just his time to go. I stoped watchin nascar when he died. #3 always!

  • C YA IN HEAVEN BUDDY NUMBER 3 WILL ALWAYS BE NUMBER 1

  • for all those wondering how the crash killed him, its because back in 2001, they didn't have as high quality neck braces they do now, so it didn't fully support his neck and head in the crash

  • @alwaysrockin711 I understand that, but from that little bump and a push, being mild-heavily, bumped into a wall, how does that kill him? People have survived car crashes just like this with no neck support? ???

  • @Corvette35000 Back in that time they didnt have the neck supports in the seats like they do now...When he was hit he was fine but when he hit that wall he snapped his neck from the impact

  • @daledude123 :( so he was paralyzed then he died? poor dale...

  • @Corvette35000 that wasn't a little bump, he hit the wall going well over 100 mph

  • @alwaysrockin711 Oh. I thought (from the looks of the camera and position) that he just skidded along drifting sideways and lightly bumped into the wall! I was about to say...WTF? lol

  • @alwaysrockin711 try about 185 mph

  • he also had heart problems in case some you people didnt fininsh your homeworks.

  • he basically just scratched the wall loads, how did that kill him?

  • @braders790 this is the old concrete barriers now there foam and absorbing springs

  • Fuck you sterling marlin!

  • @bigboydrew887 oh yes he intentionally killed earnhardt, yes thats it. First off earnhardt came down sterling martin held his line so shut up

  • everybody i think should have known something was wrong when Dale didnt try to recover and finish the race...at least thats the way i look at it...may he R.I.P

  • hans

  • the worst day in nascar history...rip dale.....u live on in all fans

  • sad

  • listverse sent me here!

  • the seatbelt was too loose and he kept going even when the car was stopped

  • The seatbelt was reported to have broken and Earnhardt was not wearing head and neck restraints which may have saved his life. Overall as he was killed on impact, he went quickly and painlessly.

  • For those wondering why he died, I think I have some information that may include the reason behind his death.

He hit the wall between 157 and 161 miles per hour at an angle of 59 degrees. When his car struck the wall. The fatal injury was a Basilar skull fracture which is around the brainstem area, reportedly caused by his head striking the steering wheel of the car, causing severe whiplash that may have punctured or clotted his brainstem and spinal cord areas that cut of impulses to his organs

  • we miss u dale

  • how the fuck did he die from that?

  • @Doodledude9001 i think he broke his neck on impact

  • It really only looked like he hit the wall at about 3 or 4 meters per second. How did he die from this?

  • I was watching this race when this happened. I remember watching him hit the wall and saying "Oh god I hope hes okay." My dad shook his head and said "I dont know." When he didnt get out of the car my dad said "If he aint climbed out by now he aint gonna climb out. I think hes gone." I cried for three days

  • i heard he was takin his shit off as he most likely did quite often on last turns. thts the sadest part. one last fuckin turn

  • the crash didnt loook bad

  • white trash! hahaha dumbass died

  • @zimmcat You retarded inbred fuck. Say that to the family of the greatest Nascar driver in history. Keep wanking over taliban execution videos. Prick.

  • @zimmcat What kind of fuckin human being are you. Would a little respect or some fuckin empathy kill ya? Or do you even know what those words mean let alone know they exist?

  • @zimmcat Fuck you you asshole!!! That man was a legend and not only that left behind a son who had to leave a celebration with his friend in victory lane to find out his dad had died. How about you get in a stock car and hit the wall at 160 and we will see if you're able to survive you blue blooded prick

  • not to be rude or morbid or anything, but how the hell did he die from that? it doesn't even look bad at all...

  • @rcbmxer22 Something to do with a part of the skull that took the impact. It was after this they forced through the wearing of the HANS device in all motorsports. RIP still

  • Wow..Right when then crash it, some oxy clean commercial went on, on youtube saying stain gone, gone the first hour ah ha stain gone. I was like that was totally unacceptable.

  • The reason why it doesnt look bad is because we see much worse today! but we also have SOOOO much more stuff like neck protection the cars are built better and everything so shut up

  • it was the hons device that he wasnt wearing and it snapped his neck and it caused him to die

  • Well I gotta say if he was a better driver he would stil be alive

    His style was too aggressive

He would often go beyond what the cars capabilities were able to handle

The man had a death wish

Too bad before he committed car suicide he didnt leave DEI to dakle Jr instead of the gold digging whore he married. She ran DEI into the ground

Just one more example Dale Earnhardt used poor judgement if he were alive Id like to kick him in the dick marbles and pee on his face.

    My cock is vein laden

  • thats sad every time i watch this i cry daddy was telling me the other day bout this wreck and it was all i could do to keep the tears n. WE LOVE U DALE SR. AND JR.

We r here 4 u whenever you are safer up there then down here

  • For the people who want to know more, type in "the crashes that have changed nascar" at the youtube search bar and select the one created by MarkED912.

  • Derpa derp!

  • for people who dont know, Dale never wore the HANS Device and never had his seatbelts overly tight, those two factors and the speed and angle he hit the wall killed him that day

  • he got whip lash didnt he

  • thats it????

  • I watched this race when I was 5 years old.

That day we lost one of the greatest drivers to have ever raced.

    RIP Dale Earnhardt

  • @untamedfilms I was only 6, he was my favorite race driver. =(

  • he broke his neck

  • i was in first grade and watched every minute of that race until mike said those words, i turn off the tv and went into a corner and sat there for 6 hours wonder why such a great driver could part from us nascar fans in such a tragic way, but looking back now, i'm sure that was the way he would have wanted to go, doin what he loved and he was damn good at it R.I.P. Dale Earnhardt

  • I never thought this crash looked all that bad., but I've seen wrecks that looked 100 times worse

  • Comment removed

  • Earnhardt - 0

    Wall - 1

  • @Punchakid Earnhardt - Legend, You - Nobody

  • What a pussy fuck nascar.

  • Massacreman3000=Douchebag

  • king of nascar

  • Poor guy, no one want's to die doing what they love.

  • @Malithion2001 I do, If I die doing what I love then that's alright with me. Better that then to die on a bed all old, painfully, and slow thinking back on the days when I use to do what I loved.

  • a black athlete would have never wrecked. theyre the talented ones

  • @lowlifeEK thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard, it was an accident dipshit, its not based on the color of your skin you idiot

  • All because Sterling Marlin had to push the issue, see where it got yah yeah worse than were you would have finished if you would stayed put

  • I don't get it, how did that impact kill him? I've seen NASCAR crashes much worse than that *(scratching head)*

  • @BLACKAAROW When hitting the wall almost head on at the speed he was going (160 ish) it caused his head to snap forward which separated something in his head/neck (not sure what) and he was almost dead instantly. At least that is what I heard from a lot people. Kinda weird how some people can flip 30 times and just walk out of the car.

  • @BLACKAAROW The crashes you see now a days have more safety precautions in the cars then back when this wreck happened. They now have devices that hold the driver's heads so as they dont fly all over the place and hit things int he car, back during this crash the device was not being used and he suffered massive head truama and died more from the beating of his brain against his skull then the wreck itself.

  • @BLACKAAROW Essentially when his car hit the wall, his head hit the steering wheel.

  • @BLACKAAROW I was there in Daytona working for our team as promo. The wreck its self didn't seem to be to bad, Dale had taken worse wrecks and jumped right out of his car. But When he didn't come crawling out of that car. The way He always did it was very confusing. Working the race allows me to be in all access , I was standing by JR. he came barreling in jumped out and took a slow jog at first then all of a sudden jr. began to run to his dad. We miss you Dale.

  • @BLACKAAROW it could of possibly been sevire head damage cause impact could of been much more harder than you think

  • @BLACKAAROW The wall was much harder in that time today they have an outer wall that sofens the blow.

  • @BLACKAAROW he wasnt wearing his seatbelt correctly.. in otherwords he launched into the dashbaord doing 190

  • @BLACKAAROW He didn't take every safety precaution with his gear and broke his skull. Wiki has a better explanation though.

  • @BLACKAAROW he wasnt wearing his hans.

  • @BLACKAAROW The crash didn't his heart gave out suddenly while he was out racing

  • @BLACKAAROW yes but these are older cars and are less protective

  • @BLACKAAROW

That's because ever since his death, everything has changed.

  • @BLACKAAROW you ever seen that show top 10 worse... well there was this 1 with nascar wrecks and a guy hit a gate coming out of turn 3 at about 190 mph and it sliced his car in 2 and he lived through it... so i scratch my head at this wreck also

  • @BLACKAAROW seatbelt broke

  • @BLACKAAROW when he hit he was going over 160 mph the harnes that all the drivers where combind with the neck brace and the force of the impact, is what actually caused it. he hit so hard that his brain was actually jolted and slammed forward.

  • @BLACKAAROW

i was under the impression that when he was swerving, and thus when he hit the #36 it changed his point of impact and instead of being what would have been a lesser crash turned it into a much more horrific crash as some called a critical angle at 160 mph. was also under the impression he wasnt wearing a HANS device as it wasnt mandatory back then. needless to say, a sad day for NASCAR

  • @BLACKAAROW Old ironhead wore his shoulder harness a little too lose and did not have a Hann's Device on. One think compounded another and, what today would have been a walk away accident, turned fatal. I liked Earnhart, but he was set in his ways.

  • @BLACKAAROW he was wearing one of those faceless helmets and he fractured his skull and that was the official Cause of Death, he didn't want to wear the regulation helmets that NASCAR makes all drivers wear

  • @BLACKAAROW His seatbelt broke... Technically he was wearing it the wrong way and when he collided with Schrader (yellow car) it moved him sideways in his seat. so the right side of his head hit the steering wheel and fractured his head.

  • @BLACKAAROW His safty gear was not up to date he did not have neck pretection so the impact broke his neck.

  • @BLACKAAROW You have two verebrates in your windpipe that holds your spinal cord well when he hit the wall the impact broke both of these verebrates and his spinal cord went into his brain. if i remember corret might be wrong.

  • @BLACKAAROW Well for one thing, I've heard that Dale Earnhardt took his seat belt off at the last lap of every race...

  • Not to make little of this, but I never thought this crash looked all that bad. I'm not a race fan, and don't watch races, but I've seen wrecks that looked 100 times worse than this. It must have been the angle, I guess.

  • @skeeter197140 i agree, first time a saw this clip i thought it was just a smaller crash between two different drivers and the Dale Earnhardt crash was still to come

  • @skeeter197140 in all honesty it wasn't a bad wreck, i was a fan of dale, this was a normal crash but he hit the wall going almost top speed and wasn't wearing a neck harness that was optional at the time and his brain slammed into the front of his skull it was an accident and and a tragedy that changed nascar

  • @skeeter197140 it was in fact the angle at which he hit. when he hit the wall his head and body both moved forward, but the seat belt only stopped his body. His head continued forward. this normally would result in whiplash but because he was driving so fast it killed him

  • @skeeter197140 I remember thinking the same thing. Then I heard less than an hour later on the news that he had died and I was like, "Holy Shit!"

  • @skeeter197140

he changed how his belts were mounted and had them mounted in a way that (unknowingly) caused them to fail. between that and the open faced helmet he always insisted on wearing, it was a perfect storm that turned a survivable crash into a fatal. tragic.

  • @skeeter197140 It wasn't the impact of the other car-It was the fact he got forced into the wall at 160mph instantly.

  • @skeeter197140 Yeah, I see what you're saying. But you have to remember how fast they were going and slamming into the wall like that is what caused his head injuries and such.

  • @skeeter197140 Dale was old school. He still had a regular, open-face helmet and goggles when everyone was going to full face helmets. Dale also didn't use a HANS device which could have saved his life. The accident never looked that bad to me either. When he was first bumped, the angle wasn't too bad. But when the second car hit him, it directed him more head on into the wall. There was a lot of force involved. That was the last NASCAR race I saw. I haven't watched since.

  • @skeeter197140 What happened is that dale earnhardt Sr. head swung forward and missing the steering wheel and flexing and stretching his spine causing him to die. Hans restraint would've saved his life but the fact is he thought Hans restricted movement and did not wear hans in his career.

  • @skeeter197140 I'm pretty sure it had something to do with his seatbelt or some sort of safety gear not working right. He broke his neck I think. I was watching the wreck while the actual race was going on on TV as a kid, and Dale Earnhardt was my favorite. I just stopped watching NASCAR after that.

  • @skeeter197140 The far back camera angle make it look deceptive. But he hit that wall head on going 160mph. Imagine driving down the highway, now going more than twice that speed, and suddenly hitting a wall.

  • @skeeter197140

Probably because he went into the wall at 200mph+. That impact would cause severe internal injuries. Possibly flail chest and rib punctured heart/lung. Almost no chance of surviving that.

  • @skeeter197140 he hit the wall but he wasnt wearing a neck brace so it broke his neck.

  • @skeeter197140 Its all about dissapating energy! When a car flips and barrel rolls as Tony Stewart did earlier in the same race, that dissapates the energy the energy a little at a time....every tumble, and every hit absorbs the energy alttle at a time, but hitting a wall at 185mph...even at an angle creates forces on the human body that are unsustainable...also add to this the fact that Earnhardt did not have a hauns devise and his 5 point harness was defective.

  • @skeeter197140 He was not wearing his safety belt :(

  • @skeeter197140 what it was is back then the didnt have neck protecters and when he hit the wall his neck snaped right off.

  • @skeeter197140 his head restraint thing broke and sent his head into the steering wheel i think, but no one thought it killed him, that's why it was such a shock (even he's been through worse than that lol)

  • @skeeter197140 its the ones that dont look bad that are the worst, when the car shreds to pieces thats a life saver, dissipates energy, but this was a head on into the wall, no parts flew off, nothing, not even the hood came off, is he car did what it was supposed to he would be here today right next to the king himself. look at the Alan Mcnish crash in Le Mans 24h 2011, perfect example.

  • who gives a fuck
