  • Hey Jared, how do you charge on prints? I was thinking if they want certain quality prints like decent, good, professional, etc. they'd have to pay more and more as some print labs are labeled as a certain quality. Like for example my decent place to get prints would be walmart, good is adorama, and professional is a lab my college instructor told me to try.

  • SNORKS!! I miss them! :)

  • where do you print from? even larger sizes

  • Haha!!! Snorks!! I remember those guys!

  • some good info in here. I am new to photography (less than 1 year) and it is only a hobby at this point. However, as time goes on I am thinking more and more that this would be an awesome profession. It is really nice to have pros like you who are willing to pass along thier knowledge to less experienced people like me. Thanks.

  • Factoring in all the costs really got me thinking how tough it is to make a lot of money doing small jobs. Like, the price of gear, and transportation, factored in with the fact that you might not always have a constant flow of people hiring you really shows how tough it can be.

  • I want this BOOK! I hope to hear more... This has been weighting on my mind to ask you forever. I'll have to check out your site. I hope to find this book or however you'll be putting it out. You've given a great deal of advice... And to you I say "Thanks!" Hope all is well... Take Care And All.

  • @ithree6mafia thats exactly what i do

  • Thank you. You've confirmed much of what I've thought about pricing. Normally I get looks as if I'm mad when I talk about pricing photography with friends. They just don't get just how much time is involved, and how that time is money. Money which they should be charging for/allowing for - Photography business or otherwise. No wonder those friends who are self employed are always skint.

There's so much to allow for when deciding on a pricing structure. So many little things to think of.

  • Since im new to photography i demand very litle mostly becuz my goal is experience and "to be known". it's tough, sometimes i work for 8hrs, by the time i get home its 4am. and i only get paid 50bux for the whole time ($40 in USD). A year lator i still only charge so little but have jobs lined up for me every week. And now since i am in demand i feel i have the right to demand more, to me its demand that defines how much my time is worth and not how awesum my photos are.

  • Whats th isdn number for the book your advertising guid to capturing motion at concerts version 1...Live in Aussie land so might have to check a bookshop to see if they have it...Loved this one..might also get the next book your working on..

  • Can you make a FroKnowsPhoto apple application.

  • Lol i dont like the audio only....

  • @JaredPolin Just audio is okay, but personally i feel that it doesnt keep the audiences full attention because they dont have anything to look at aside from the same image which can lead to space outs or click off's just my opinion tho.

  • Another great video, I have a small gig for my company for our Christmas party, Im getting compensated for a full day of work just for 2 days. I get paid decent, but i never really thought about all the editing time as well as travel expenses.

-currently: just amateur photographer building on the passion.

    -setup d5k

    kit lens 18-55mm

    55-200mm

  • @Xquisitesoul We got the same setup! ... Cheers!!

  • @1rhett1 Sweet im not alone, what would be like the next lens to get?

  • @Xquisitesoul I'm thinking 50mm 1.8

  • @1rhett1 yeah probably right =)

  • thanks man, great info.

  • you should make podcasts that would be rad!

  • @Sacharczuk21 I am working on it right now, going to upload every video and such to pod cast

  • GOOOOOOOOOD VIDEo

  • QUESTION! do u always give prints?

  • @lulatubeyou nope, these days not anymore.

  • Excellent video Jared. I still have no idea how much my creative fee should be and if I should charge it separately or include it in the overall pricing or "package". Ugh I swear this is the hardest part in running a business.

  • Hi Jared, do you think people would hire an experienced wedding photographer who has the passion to photography and the right equipment but is only 15 years old?

  • @crysisguy05 if your really good and can prove it.

  • @crysisguy05 It's really hard if you aren't even old enough for contract

  • thanks for the useful info! could you give tips on how to photograph dancers? like a dance class in terms of lighting conditions, flash or no flash, positionning, etc (if you haven't done it yet), thanks!

  • thanks for this excellent vid! some really good advices here.. thanks :)

  • Check your title spelling :)

  • I used to watch the snorks when i was little too, this show may turn out to be something that reunites photographers around the world

  • Zup Jared!! caN i ask you for an advice?.Quite confuse on which of the two should i buy..A D3000 or a D3100..

  • @m4keme D3000 is old technology, the 3100 is better in low light

  • @m4keme Dont just go by brand as most manufacturers offer basically the same thing. Instead, hold these cameras and feel what is best in your hands. Look through the viewfinder and go for the brighter viewfinders. From there, you can then wind it down to lens selection and finally pricing. Be aware though, the lens you put on your camera is much, MUCH more important than any camera body, especially in the beginner DSLR bodies.

  • @m4keme check out his video only three back or so called Digital Photography Help - Buying Tips. It covers that question.

  • @Gibson2471 thanks guys
