The fact that they seem to be struggling with their responses actually makes them kind of endearing for me. It shows that their just normal people making good music, not wannabe philosophers. That said, I thought that Robin's comment about finding a new sound being due to luck was very insightful.
HAHAHAHAHHAHA! man i love these guys, i was about to shave my beard of, but then i saw them for the first time yesterday and power to the facial flea basket!
they're gods on stage and only human in interviews but still very humble and intelligent. watching artists have to explain themselves and their work always makes me want to cut a hole in the floor for them. this band encourages me to start taking hormones so i can be a man and grow a beard.
These dudes are really great and talented musicians!! But the best thing is that they are smart and really know how to talk about music and the social aspect of music.
wonder if the young boy without the beard feels kinda left out because he can't grow one - they're a beardy band.. they seem pretty articulate to me - bit jet lagged maybe..
In the first part of the talk he says they met in high school and have played music since, so I think he doesn't feel left out, but maybe doesn't feel the need to say much.
Who cares how old the interviewer is, this has nothing to do with him...I think you guys are smoking too much Seattle pot to care so much about it...I guess they could have had a 22 yr old interviewer say "like and "you know" a billion times as this band does........stop hating losers and enjoy life
That's what I thought, this dude is way too old for this. I remember when mtv had cool reporters. Now all they have is John Norris, from the old USA compelation CD commercials...hahahahaha. Who'se the fucking idiot who chose John Norris?
"Like...um....the thing about it is....you know.... like...um....existentialism.....like.....er....duh....uhmm....."
Yeah, yeah - you're a rock band in the public eye now; time to divert all the time you normally would have spent grooming yourselves into trying to sound "deep" in interviews.
These guys are so smart! I mean like that stuff J. Tillman about; how music and songwriting is all about escapism and sometimes making something horrible into a little enjoyable thing you listen to for a couple minutes, that shit is so flippin' true I can't believe it! haha.. Especially with their music. It's just smurf-tastic.
I've never heard a more articulate and expressive drummer. Ever.

i agree
i think beard it's the MOST important thing about fleet foxes
i can imagine a near future where they just stand in front of the crowd and play with theit beards instead of playing their music
PLUS my personal experience as a listener, i'm 23 and my beard EXPLODED when i started listenting to the fleet

Oh god
That hasn't happened to me yet.
If it does happen I won't be very impressed.
Maybe they should have a disclaimer on their CDs? "Caution: May cause your beard to FUCKING EXPLODE"
UnderstandHilary 2 years ago
my friends and i joke that the beards are necessary for them because they bring the magic harmonies, and that's why skyler doesn't/can't have one

@simongreenham he's the only one that doesn't sing too. maybe there's a correlation between singing ability and facial hair.
