@Enshov I'll start off by saying that I am generally a M$ guy, though I don't consider myself a "fan boy" of any company.
Sony Vegas is a good program and I would say it is a more robust software solution than Final Cut Express. I've used a number of different editing solutions, and I have found that nothing I've used comes close to being as good as the full version of Final Cut Studio. That is by far the best video/audio editing solution.
i like the slate because windows 7 helps me with all web conferencing applications because most of the apps i run need windows..ipad cant complete this feature for me.
In the long run, I believe the HP slate is going to be the top contender against the ipad appose to recent tablets. However the price is going to be the downfall of this product, sure it's either $50 more or less depending on memory but what HP isn't considering is the popularity of Apple products and it's effect on standard users. The ipad has the "cool" factor going for it and I believe it's that factor that will lead consumers to purchase the ipad despite its "disadvantages"
And now that it is out it only comes with 64gb at $799. For $599 I would have bought it to replace my iPAd. It is not worht $200 more for me. But I can see where it would be great for some one who might need Windows and the portability of a device like a netbook. I got rid of my netbook because it was too slow. I am sure that since the Slate uses Atom it will be tha same as a netbook. The only reason that I got the iPad is that it is lightening fast from turn on.
I am 100 percent sure they are selling it to the business and public sectors but I am not sure about consumer! I love mine. It can almost replace my laptop

Well, Windows 7 was made in thought of touchscreen displays. Or I could install Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Remix on it, and its GUI customized specifically for smaller screens would blend in perfectly with a touch capabilities. Also 1024 x 600 is 16:10, which is good for HD movies with no bars. In general, its a good tablet by functionality. Whilst iPad has no exciting features whatsoever(giant iTouch), it is an apple device: Stylish and recognizable. A good icebreaker perhaps? I'm saving for HP Slate
i have gotten to play with an Ipad a couple times and i bought an HP Slate 500 2 weeks ago. I love my slate and i use it everyday. HP is legit. They invested 3.5 billion last year in R&D! What did apple spend in R&D? Apple is just a marketing genius, But thats it!

@ultraret no this is a whole computer, u could even plug in a USB disc drive if you needed. people are so lost in their "i" crap that they forget that silly little apps realy kills qualety. this can do every thing the ipad can do and more. music, apps(gadgets), programs, web chat, photos, voice, usb, sd card, disc drive, a real computer excperince.

umm... yea they say it can run photoshop n video editing programs... but most home pcs cant cuz this r powerful programs that require alot of stuff... they dont run goos in basic PCs, laptos, forget about netbooks!!, y would they run smooth in this crappy hp product, plus HP does cheap crappy stuff... rather have a super aqwesome ipad that does some stuff than having the hp one that will be slowing down, freezing n stuff...

in my opinion they don't compare. The hp is intended as a tablet pc, the iPad however is obviously not. All the ram specs and the processor mean nothing, because they run different OS's and Apples OS's are notoriously faster and easier to run hardware wise than windows... but is is just an opinion...
i got an ipad about a month ago and cant honestly see how anything could be better than it! its incredible! but if the hp slate is run on windows 7 that means ittl be just like a pc, ittl get viruses all the time.

Hp has made allot of nice touchsmart pc and notebooks. They use their own hp multitouch software running on windows which is very fluid experience to use. Lets see if this is going to be user experience on slate aswell.

Where is the SLATE??? you ask. The slate i feel represent every windows 7 tablet on the market with a webcam usb port & cardreaders. They do exist I have one and I love it. No USB or sd because apple protects me from unsafe software and they have me the consumer in mind.
All this protection prevents you from backing up to an external Hdd, getting mp3 files emailed, getting video files from friends. Your compromise is almost as safe as prison, (your warden is apple)
A. If Mr. Jobs say I am announcing a new product, It runs perfectly, but it does not have a card reader, no usb ports, no professional software can be installed, it has no camera, it can support flash but we will not allow, It looks beautiful, the battery last long & it has an apple on the back.

I pad does not run flash because it's slow and heats up your computer and does not have a USB port because it is thin the slate is hey clunky and slow it basically a net book without a keyboard and net books aren't good at anything so that's my opinion. The bad thing and the HP Slate is that the battery life is very small. And the OS is Windows 7 Home. Because of this the battery life reduced even more... But the specs are really really good. I think I will go for HP Slat with a Ubuntu OS rather than Windows....
@SuperCalvin16 Let me explain this for the slow people, Yes 10 hours of battery life would be better on devices that did the same thing. However an Windows 7 tablet does more and is more powerful than a phone O.S. so the battery does not last as long!

If the web uses flash more or less it does not affect anything running windows. However if the web uses more flash, where does that leave the ipad? Lacking a part of the web! Limits are never good.

@SuperCalvin16 Apple gets most of their components from Samsung and Foxconn. Even in the case of the Apple A4 Chip, thats an ARM Cortex A8, along with other 3rd party stuff. They don't make most of what goes in to their products, just like every other manufacturer

A very portable PC! Think about it, Most users if not all, will be seated while using. Surely there is an outlet nearby unless you are camping! Where there is wifi there is electricity! A 5 hour battery is great tech for most people! My portable game systems don't last long and my kids love them!
i really don't think slate is going to sale millions , but ipad already can't catch market demand, apple sales every piece of its work, but hp, we'll see though. market can tell who is winner, it seems apple already is.

Html 5 is a programing language. Flash is a product purchased by Adobe. Both are used on the web now! Flash is used 95% more on everything, web banners, porn, animations, games, this site! Right click on the video and you will know!

Looks like the Apple wackos are out in force. They just can't take it when something comes out to be better than their product line. I for one don't subscribe to limited functionalities as "allowed" by the Glorious Steve J. I want to run my videos from the web, play my games, see flash sites, camera support and additional memory too. The only big deal was made because Apple refuses to use it because they said Flash was buggy! No one I know has had a problem with flash, in fact it was the best until steve jobs said it wasn't. Undeniable Honesty: Let's say that the Ipad can do EVERYTHING THAT IT SAY IT DOES Smoothy, without lag, No viruses, easy to use. I tried it and found it to be true!
Let's say the Slate does everything negative that the Ifans says it does! Virus, Lag, 3hr batter, Bad windows 7 not touch optimized and it sells less units.
If both were $1 which do you think I would purchase if I need photoshop & video chat ONLY! What can the Ipad do for me? Window CAN DO EVERYTHING I NEED!

Well, Windows 7 was made in thought of touchscreen displays. Or I could install Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Remix on it, and its GUI customized specifically for smaller screens would blend in perfectly with a touch capabilities. Also 1024 x 600 is 16:10, which is good for HD movies with no bars. In general, its a good tablet by functionality. Whilst iPad has no exciting features whatsoever(giant iTouch), it is an apple device: Stylish and recognizable. A good icebreaker perhaps? I'm saving for HP Slate

i have gotten to play with an Ipad a couple times and i bought an HP Slate 500 2 weeks ago. I love my slate and i use it everyday. HP is legit. They invested 3.5 billion last year in R&D! What did apple spend in R&D? Apple is just a marketing genius, But thats it!

this well be able to be a slate version of a laptop or deck top running windows 7
with its USB (wich ipad dues not have) you can esely plug in a mouse or keybored.
or even a HD web cam, or even plug in your MP3 player.
along with ANY computer games that can run off 2gb ram (wich yes even bioschock and halo can do) wich means it can also run windows live games

there is no logic in the slate being able to run 1080p(1920x1080) when it has a resolution of 1024x600..
same thing goes for the iPad..
You can't edit the resolution of the screen itself..

in my opinion they don't compare. The hp is intended as a tablet pc, the iPad however is obviously not. All the ram specs and the processor mean nothing, because they run different OS's and Apples OS's are notoriously faster and easier to run hardware wise than windows... but is is just an opinion...

Hp has made allot of nice touchsmart pc and notebooks. They use their own hp multitouch software running on windows which is very fluid experience to use. Lets see if this is going to be user experience on slate aswell.

Keyboards were not designed to be pressed on a screen,
Phones were not supposed to have touchscreens,
Photos were not designed to be captured digitally
Music should be only on vinyl or cassette.

i have an IPAD.
i like it and i finally understood why some functions are not available on IPAD:
no flash = stability (in the future flash games will be made for ipad like farmville)
no usb/sd = so that everything has to pass through the app store or itunes (no viruses or junk)
ipad battery life is superb
apps or even free apps are impressive
it's so simple and user friendly that my 3yr old child can handle it with NO difficulty.

No flash on this device for you is good because, you want flash but it is unstable, & steve says flash will be gone in the future.
No USB or sd because apple protects me from unsafe software and they have me the consumer in mind.
All this protection prevents you from backing up to an external Hdd, getting mp3 files emailed, getting video files from friends. Your compromise is almost as safe as prison, (your warden is apple)

A. If Mr. Jobs say I am announcing a new product, It runs perfectly, but it does not have a card reader, no usb ports, no professional software can be installed, it has no camera, it can support flash but we will not allow, It looks beautiful, the battery last long & it has an apple on the back.

I pad does not run flash because it's slow and heats up your computer and does not have a USB port because it is thin the slate is hey clunky and slow it basically a net book without a keyboard and net books aren't good at anything so that's my opinion. The bad thing and the HP Slate is that the battery life is very small. And the OS is Windows 7 Home. Because of this the battery life reduced even more... But the specs are really really good. I think I will go for HP Slat with a Ubuntu OS rather than Windows....

@SuperCalvin16 Apple gets most of their components from Samsung and Foxconn. Even in the case of the Apple A4 Chip, thats an ARM Cortex A8, along with other 3rd party stuff. They don't make most of what goes in to their products, just like every other manufacturer

@ImpatientPollo1 Ifans logic truly amaze me! I use my Windows Notebook all the time on all kinds of sites and I don't get viruses. Somehow a 5hr. battery is not enough. I can have worked with less! Ipads have no productivity AT ALL! And Ifans are still proud of their limits.
My pocket calculator does less than an Ipad but the battery last for months,
Does this make my calculator better than an ipad?

A very portable PC! Think about it, Most users if not all, will be seated while using. Surely there is an outlet nearby unless you are camping! Where there is wifi there is electricity! A 5 hour battery is great tech for most people! My portable game systems don't last long and my kids love them!

Everybody had one, everybody hates them now.
HP and MS are solid companies, you can still buy a monitor for your old pc, or upgrade. You are limited with apple! U luv limits!

@mdtrue i have hp pavilion 9700, bought 2yrs ago, I have hp ipaq GPS,which is the most stupid thing ever i ve bought. laptop is ok, the downside made by windows, i won't blame hp. the best electronic product i have ever bought is ipod touch, and now is ipad, i use them , i know which is better and suits me, if you say apple is not good, just tell me why so why people just like apple, let me tell you, apple made solid thing, hp made gps i t can barely use. after the gps, i totally give out hp.

@mdtrue I agree, most apple fans are cock sucking douches. I went on my mates computer which was running osx and it was as slow as shit. My computer running win 7 is really fast (64-bit, 2ghz processor, 3gb ram.) I would much rather have an hp slate for 3 reasons: You can run office, you have got flash, its fast. The ipad looks shit, is as slow as shit and is made by a company that makes shit. Get a life and stop sucking apple's cheap and tacky dicks.

You are currently not getting the full youtube, you are watching a portal using HTML 5 and you are limited to the videos apple will allow you to view! Windows tablet pc users get it all! Html 5 is a programing language. Flash is a product purchased by Adobe. Both are used on the web now! Flash is used 95% more on everything, web banners, porn, animations, games, this site! Right click on the video and you will know!
Steve jobs cant control flash or make money from it so he wants to migrate the web to something else. Html 5 not so useful but they are working on that. Ifans love limits!

Looks like the Apple wackos are out in force. They just can't take it when something comes out to be better than their product line. I for one don't subscribe to limited functionalities as "allowed" by the Glorious Steve J. I want to run my videos from the web, play my games, see flash sites, camera support and additional memory too. It's just a no-brainer, which should work for you Apple fans, since Apple requires no brains from their users.

@Titanz91 Trust me no one knows why one is better than the other. Its just a different programing language for your web browser to download. The only big deal was made because Apple refuses to use it because they said Flash was buggy! No one I know has had a problem with flash, in fact it was the best until steve jobs said it wasn't. Now every ifan repeats it as if it is true.

@lustring You are another Ifan defending the non use of flash because your platform does not use it. I for one hate being told what I can or cannot use or do with my device. Now you find it annoying when flash is used? I like the full web experience, flash, shockwave, java, html 5 and all. Apple tells you what you are allowed to use and if this is something you are happy with... the ipad is just for you!

@lustring Obviously no matter what I say you love apple products. You are a loyal apple user as I am with windows. My experience with windows has been totally different from yours. I am a video editor and there is nothing, I MEAN NOTHING an Ipad or Iphone can do for me professionally. However on a windows tablet i can run photoshop, vegas, avid, dreamweaver, flash and soooo much more ON THE GO. What app can you use to make you money on an Ipad?
Remember no usb ports cardreaders, camera.

However I am trying to let others know, there is more that a tablet can do! Ipads lack sooo much and Ifans love it. That makes it perfect for you guys.
