@Fremen87 To clarify and correct statement. Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Convention 1949 Article 47 (APGC77) states, "1. A mercenary shall not have the right to be a combatant or a prisoner of war." However, and this is my correction, they must be protected as a combatant until a tribunal proves he is a mercenary. Then he is a convicted criminal and can be executed. This is what regular Armies that are signatories to the Geneva Convention MUST do.

This Campaign was well planned by NATO military to solve the following problem:
- Millions of Black Africans live and work in Libya under the protection of Kaddafi
- Once Kaddafi removed many would pour into Europe
- The solution planned by the UNHCR and RED CROSS + NATO.

However keep in mind that actual _proven_ Mercenaries have NO protection under international law, and like spies, can be summarily executed. @Amidat Well it wasn't from me, so what's your point? I just pointed out the law (with correction), that doesn't mean everyone knows it. Civilians don't know the civilian laws let alone the Geneva Conventions. Mercenaries are to be arrested and treated as POW's until proven Mercenaries and then dealt with under criminal law. Actual practice on the ground varies due to circumstances, combat, ignorance, hatreds, arrogance, indiscipline, the list goes on...

@Fremen87 To clarify and correct statement. Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Convention 1949 Article 47 (APGC77) states, "1. A mercenary shall not have the right to be a combatant or a prisoner of war." However, and this is my correction, they must be protected as a combatant until a tribunal proves he is a mercenary. Then he is a convicted criminal and can be executed. This is what regular Armies that are signatories to the Geneva Convention MUST do.
