  • this is incredible

  • 3pm. Cured. Bullshit. He might be able to walk straight but I bet he still had absolute fucking hell raging inside his head.

  • prob. why the US instituted prohibition. To many "morally corrupt" ww1 vets :P

  • There must have been huge alcoholism, domestic violence and other dysfunctional behavior after WW1 due to the intense and protracted trauma experienced by combatants and civilians. There were many amputees and otherwise maimed and blinded veterans who after returning home and finding themselves unemployable ended up on the streets. In a new HELL. At home. Wonder if any research has been done in this regard?

  • war is murder writ large-Carl Sagan

  • D:

  • @sunnysuzette After they were 'cured' they were often sent back as the concept of neurasthenia (shell-shock) was mostly unknown at the time, but the psychological damage was still there. Also remember that many who were at the front and behaved like this were shot by their own side for 'cowardice'.

  • this really looks like propiganda, 're-educated' to health in 1 hour...I dont believe it for a second

  • @ludemedia it's not propaganda do some research. Shell shock usually only lasted about 72 hours it wasn't long-term contrary to popular belief and dumb movies. 90% of people with shell shock returned to their unit within days...

  • @ludemedia its true look it up its not propaganda

  • Intentional or not, when Private Richards drops his cane at 0:38 i felt the biggest sense of achievement.

  • "Who does not learn from history is doomed to repeat it." - Bertolt Brecht

  • It's horrible how these men, after treatment got sent back to the war to fight.

  • what did exacctly happen to then during war in order to shake that way?

  • @4Gantz4 fear.

  • @RomanuDeRand interesting

  • @4Gantz4 vibrations from constant cannon fire can be felt from two miles away, and deliver shock waves stronger for longer areas than the actual shells, the vibrations of which do not travel as far, but when they hit, such vibrations can become burned into the memory.

This is one of the physical forms of 'shell shock'.

  • @4Gantz4 some of the more unfortunate men were in range when a bomb hit and were buried in mud from the explosion, imagine being buried alive from an artillery blast... a lot of things went into shell shock. going from having to defend your life to living like a normal citizen was often too much for them to handle. any extreme change can cause shock. putting a fish in hot water will cause it to go into shock just as a soldier being pinned down by gunfire can cause shock.

  • False, not cured, they gave them the drog called LSD.

  • @crackerele You're wrong. LSD was first time synthesized by Albert Hoffman in 1943. We are talking about the first world war.

  • @markm1900 1943 was ww2

  • @VBH8888 Yeah, I know, i was talking about the LSD drug.

  • @crackerele Ummmm...Not possible considering LSD didn't exist in 1917...

  • Shell shock is when the body's nervous system is running at full capacity and allways senses death from being shot at or hit with artillery like a car engine the nervous system will shut down in most cases it was somewhat cured but in other cases not so much

  • I think the persuasion part went something like this - (Doctor) "Sgt Williams you will walk normally by 1/2 hour or we will cut a part of your brain out." (Sgt) "Yes sir."

  • total crap, none of them were 'cured'. I wonder what 'persuasion' really meant in practice.

  • the futility.

Sent off to suffer and die by corrupt governments who are still doing it

  • they probably drugged these men.

  • The men that should have been shot were the generals and prime-ministers, leaders etc.

  • I highly doubt that the men with shellshock who are shown are the same people after the treatment. Shellshock was, and unfortunately still is, a terrible condition that in many cases stays for life. Both sides used massive amounts of propaganda to curb accusations that the war was going no-where.

  • @patjoethebaker it's called post-traumatic stress disorder now.

  • i feel sure these brave men were messed about with experiments

  • ...was this the result of nerve gas?

  • Poor fellows gives me butterflies in my stomach...

  • 0:24 onwards = A-WELL-A-BIRD-BIRD-BIRD, BIR-BIRD'S THE WORD!

  • @MrJStubbs2 Youre gonna burn in hell for that and mee to cuz i laughted XD,i imagined the same thing

  • @MrJStubbs2 You sick little bastard, even though this shit is horrible, I laughed at your comment XDXD

  • Another way to ,,cure" these soldiers, was the use of electrical shocks, as shown in the film ,,Regeneration". The actual purpose of the treatment was, after all, to send the men back to the trenches as soon as possible. Precious human material was not supposed to be wasted. Therefore, the ,,shocks" were in favour as common treatment by the majority of the military leaders, rather than psychotherapy, as performed in the hospital of Craiglockhart, Scotland.

  • How did they cure so fast?

  • Pte. Bradshawe's side effects from Salvarsan (Arsphenamine) were not uncommon, though how he managed to get syphilis, that it was used to treat, whilst being a paraplegic must remain a mystery.

  • i doubt that these patients were really treated.... medical conditions like these could take months... or if not years to cure.... its probably a part of some kind of propaganda to the public that illnesses borne out of conflicts could be cured like a common cold or some kind of a machine by tightening a "screw" to solve the problem..... kupal talaga mga duktor, heneral at mga pinuno ng mga pro-war..... MGA PUTANG INA NINYONG LAHAT!!!! LOL

  • Did the ones with severe shaking symptoms shake like that 24 hours a day, or did it come & go??

  • they look all happy after there "treatment" but im sure they still wake up at and night screaming.

  • This film is bullshit, right? They cured a guy in half an hour? Another in 15 minutes? Very suspicious-sounding.

  • Comment removed

  • @Steeveriffic Yeah that is a very quick sounding procedure, they seem to be trying to cure the root causes through slow steps and psychology which is better than the physical torment that we hear about. I agree it didn't take as long as they said, maybe when they say a week they mean ten weeks but at least those men were eventually cured.

  • why are those guys around 3:30 wearing thongs.....and why are they walking with their spine curved so extreme? All symptoms of shell shock i guess? it would hurt your back tremendously to bend it like that all the time..

  • Is it realistic that some of these things could be cured by half an hour of persuasion? Or is there a chance some of this is set up as a propeganda film to show that these symptoms "aren't that bad". Because I feel like shell shock would have a longer recovery process would it not? I know some of these improvements were over the course of months but some were like an hour.

  • i agreee so what do you propose, utopia? some sort of world revolution against the ruling class? The dirty truth is man loves the shivalry of war stupid as it sounds we are programmed this way. .. until land food and religion are out of the picture ..

  • @ETECHJOEs

What we need is world population that can think critically--that a citizen approached by his government to fight a foreign war will think first and then he will come to the realization that he his being conned. It is only after a man is in the trenches that he be begins to understand how he was conned into fighting for powerful men he has never seen or will never know--it is here when it is too late that he sees the big lie--citizens must see it before hand--they must think...

  • @ETECHJOEs

Keep in mind this is one the big lies of the ruling elites--"your defending your country"--there are other big lies they have propagandized throughout the decades: the Intelligence Quotient is another, and that Capitalism is superior to any and past and future economic systems. The list goes on--in the end these big lies serve only the self proclaimed elites of he world. But their feared enemy is a thinking people, a thinking humanity, this they cannot allow happen ever...

  • Re: "Pte BRADSHAW - complete hysterical monoplegia following salvarsan injection."

I just found out what salvarsan is:

"Arsphenamine, also known as Salvarsan and 606, is a drug that was used beginning in the 1910s to treat syphilis and trypanosomiasis. It is an organoarsenic compound and was the first modern chemotherapeutic agent."

  • FAKE

  • @owl1970 You try getting shelled and bombed every single day for months on end and see how you feel.

  • @OzzyFan87 All that heavy metal and acid must of turned your brain to mush. These films were made to drum up business for the hospital. it's an advertisement. If you truly believe that shell shock can be cured in a day then you're a bigger idiot than I thought.

  • @owl1970 Yeah, they prolly lied about how long it takes, but these guys are suffering from shell shock. And for the record ive never taken acid. And there is no way in hell im an idot. Man, im so sick of people acting so tough on youtube...

  • @OzzyFan87 How do you know you're not an idiot ? I'm sure no one's ever told you the truth because they didn't want to hurt your feelings. I don't think telling you the truth about the subject is acting tough. I've broken some very bad news to you around the holidays and I know it'll be rough dealing with it. Now run along and try not to be such an idiot. With the proper psychiatric therapy there's hope for you yet.

  • this videos were propaganda video i seriously doubt someone would be cure in hours not even in todays time can that be possible!!!! poor men i feel horrible for them. just because some jerkoff decisions millions suffer!!

  • What was "Treatment" that could fix that in an hour? some sort of heavy metal? or shock treatment?

  • been to the somme its a sad place i hope these men did.nt have to go back after treatment ? but i'am sure they did rip...god bless

  • Like fucking new!

Who said war (ameriKa's) last viable industry is bad?

  • War and Madness--brought to you by the ruling elites...and they still get away with this crime against humanity--Viet Nam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Palestine, Dominican Republic, Central America, Africa...and many others to come. All for the pleasure of 1% of the human population called the elites.

  • @Elesparto i agreee so what do you propose, utopia? some sort of world revolution against the ruling class? The dirty truth is man loves the shivalry of war stupid as it sounds we are programmed this way. .. until land food and religion are out of the picture ..

  • @Elesparto in world war 1 the rulers of Germany where cousins to the rulers of uk and both the kings where grandsons to queen Victoria.

  • @Elesparto YOU'RE an ignorant prick.

These aren't the only countries that have had war.

    America. USA. GERMANY

stfu who do you think you are.

  • @ShuffleswithHearts

Don't kid yourself the US elites those who continue to rule genealogically like the Bushes and all the other little families have created a system where there is free education but no real education a free country without freedom a technological society with with total social and psychological dysfunction, a united nations of peace but perpetual war--all this is done with one purpose--so you will not look up to the real menace of the world--and they have your mind.

  • @Elesparto you dont make anysense.

  • @ShuffleswithHearts

Like I said...the elites have your mind and they have done their job...

  • @Elesparto The New World Order my friend,

  • @MrAlzene

The new world order is what they want but will not get--all human minds cannot be controlled because they are dealing with the field of true intelligence which is something beyond their technological means to control--the elites have lost...Victory to all who think!

  • There is no freaking way these guys were cured the same day they were admitted. Unless it was b/c of the placebo effect.

  • @TheGenlee01 This is propaganda footage, so keep in mind that the stuff you see here is only the exceptional cases of patients who responded to rapid treatment. There were many more who took weeks, months, and years to rehabilitate--and even then, much of this treatment merely makes them appear to be ordinary. The psychological damage is still there in many cases.

  • Whatever happened to all these men? It was only 1917 - did they get sent back to the war? I hope not... but I fear so ...

  • @sunnysuzette Judging by the fact that a lot of them are back in uniform by their final video-- they were more than likely sent back into combat. The worst cases would probably not go back and the ones that only took a day or so to treat would probably get medical leave and return to duty shortly thereafter.

  • @sunnysuzette I wonder how long it took those in charge to realise that the soldiers were mentally disabled by the horrors and needed medical help before they stopped executing them for cowardice. Which is no reason to kill someone any way.

  • @sunnysuzette yeah, they probably were sent back. This was before human rights were really acknowledged. they didn't care about mental health back then.

  • @sunnysuzette if they could walk, and pull a trigger, they went back to war. Otherwise they stayed at the camps, some, were sent away, who knows where tho.

  • @sunnysuzette no, hypnosis was still considered "experimental" back then. Many officials were even too afraid to use them to make stew! There was a common misconception that they were the servants of the Hypnotist once they were cured. Many of them waited out the rest of the war and aftermath of their families and rebuilt their lives in peace. Happy ending if you ask me.

  • @sunnysuzette luckily no,they were sent to do peacefull work on farms

  • @sunnysuzette Adolf Hitler was a message courier. in WWI. he got repeatedly gassed and suffered from shell shock. He and 2 othes survived from a unit of 800 men. Winston Churchill served as an office big shot during WWI. he EAGERLY wanted WWII to happen. then wanted it extended. he was voted out of office finally, for URGING the British for even MORE war in the PACIFIC. The British had finally grown so weary of war, they voted him out as Prime Minister.

  • @TravellerFellow Wow!!! I am really amazed that you know about Winston Churchill forcing WW2 . Ca. 95 % of people don´t know about this. If you are able to understand German language, I recommend to watch the Videos "Der zweite 30-jährige Krieg". It´s ca. 3 hours of interesting facts about the pre-history of both (!) World Wars. After having watchet this docu I have a completely new point of view abouth the time 1871 - 1945.

  • @september1683 Not ALL of us are stupid. for years after the war, CHurchill would go on and on about the "Hitlerian War". a gasbag & a boor. the German got taken for a ride. Germany NOW is THE force holding together the EU. and the rest of EUrope bot know it AND resent it as well. if I could, I would retire in Germany. good sausage, bier and LOVELY blondes with blue eyes, blond hair and BIG Naturals. ;-)

  • @TravellerFellow ..you are right, way back in the 70s whilst serving in Germany there was such a massive difference between the german standard of life and the one people had in England..seems the void between the two nations has never been filled.

  • @sunnysuzette they where lying in trenches for months and feared that grenades was going to hit tem and kill them, then this happens
