I'm a disbeliever in this theory and your skeptical explanations still sound incredibly stupid to me.The deepest mine is just under 4KM. so no, scientists haven't gotten past the "2000 miles thick part" There are about 10 different types of volcanoes and all of them have magma chambers deep below the earth's crust, like a zit, that build up under pressure until they finally erupt. The magma doesn't travel all the way up from the core in one shot. This is grade school stuff. Video's still dumb.

Then a drill was lost, as if somebody cut it, but once they went deeper, they didn't stumble on the old drill as if it was gone. Just because we see pictures of the Earth doesn't mean it's all true about it's surface. Antarctica is still a mystery and US military expedition in 1947 failed.

Whilst we haven't been there we know in very good detail the different state and density boundaries of the Earth as different densities affect the propogation of seismic waves.
