I think Judy did everything with passion, we can see it in her every performance. And her smoky voice, which she became with the age, just gives this song THE note...
I love everything about this. The set, the arrangement, and especially that harmonica. Haunting! As usual, Judy poured her soul into this performance and sang with so much emotion that the song is completely transformed.
I would have loved to be her huckle berry friend!!! No one will ever fill her shoes no matter what she did she gave more than she got!! Funny she gets it now,now that she is gone!! R.I.P. there is only one Judy Garland.....Love Barbara...
This is one of the loveliest, most heartfelt and heartbreaking performances of her series - so full of meaning when she sings of "that same rainbow's end." The song has never been performed better.
She was so brilliant, so stunning, so gifted. I have so many favorite Judy Garland songs, but there are some that, even thought they are classic standards sung by so many others, once she sings them she makes them her own and so different that no one can ever touch them...Over the Rainbow, Danny Boy, and this along with so many others. Thank you for sharing this.
I'm stuck I just keep finding more and more songs that she did.Its as if she covered all the songs of the 30's 40's and 50' She is so beautiful the songs from her show remind me of Cher when she did a song alone. Now I know where she got her style The mike the Bob Mackie dress's.I was nuts for Cher when I was a kid.Now as a Woman I am nuts for Judy.I know why now Cher studied Judy well.R.I.P. Judy you are the best. Still loving you Barb...
I just love how she chose to sing this in a very gentle and soft style and then at 2:42 she gives it the "Garland touch",letting her voice rouse to it's full volume, in perfect timing with the meaning of the lyrics. There are few people who can give a song meaning like that. Even in the 60s when she was already ill, she never lost her technique - just marvelous.
Judy's performance of Moon River is complex, layered with meaning, soaring, gentle, wistful, souful...the adjectives cannot do justice to her profound ability to "feel" both the lyric and music. With each note, magic is breathed across her throat.
How lucky we mortals are that Judy did this series. Regardless of the outcome at the time, it provides us now with a magical time in her career, happily tackling many songs new to her repertoire, and singing them beautifully. Who could ask for anything more?
One of my favorite renditions of the Henry Mancini Johnny Mercer classic that seems like it was never written; it's so ingrained in our collective dreams! Ty for the post!
