I have seen Monaco in American Saddlebred magazine. I fell in love with this animal. He reminds my father's tobiano Saddlebred. His name is Sky Millenium. Thank you for posting. Always wanted to this machine in action.
I rode a 16H ASB mare years ago--BIG action, not really easy or safe for a small
( 5'2") person without an' independent seat' accustomed to smaller more compact
(old buldog QH type) mounts because the action is so high, the stride so long it requires a totally different set of muscle skills! But I must admit it was thrilling--wish I had the opportunity now!
@spottedasb friend where they painted that horse so good, monaco. I'm from Costa Rica would like to know more information of the horse as if they sell semen and how to cost.
Stunning :) just a question they by the looks it looks like they land quite heavily on their back legs wouldent that strain all the muscles in their legs when they trot?
I was at Mystery Hills Stables when Monaco stood there. I thought he was one of the most under-rated performance stallions I'd ever seen. He didn't really "nick" right with any of the farm's broodmares, unfortunately. Glad to see he's had some good offspring. I really liked this horse.
@15moonlight you dont want to know....while I LOVE ASB's, I do not approve of the training methods used on them to get this effect...pretty to watch yes, but cruel to the horses...chains, rubber hose....thick pads, pin firing, mustard...its not pretty....ASB's go thru the same crap Tennessee Walking Horses do, its just not as publicized ....However, a NATURAL ASB, ya cant beat it for showing, trail riding, lessons..they are WONDERFUL horses...but this horse is beautiful...
@tinacrook while i agree with the end of your comment, i also want to say not all of us ASB trainers use those methods, actually very few do. we can get the same beautiful motion out of those naturally high-stepping horses using NATURAL training methods. oh, and not all of us 'break' our horses tails. please dont think (and make others think) that we are all like that!
@SaddlebredAddict i stand corrected...not ALL ABS trainers use those methods, but most do...ive seen it first hand and its a damn shame...the ASB natural is a stunning horse and doesnt need to be a "big lick" horse, same goes for Tenn Walkers...its just not necessary...but its done, with TWH, ASB, Arabians, Morgans..I had to change disciplines for my Arabians from English Pleasure, to Hunter Under Saddle because I refused to use those methods to get high knee action...
@tinacrook maybe some trainers abuse their horses where /you/ live, but the word 'most' definitely does not apply here. just because you have seen a couple dumb asses abusing their expensive show horses doesnt mean we all do. in the three states ive lived in (AZ, AL and KY) and the 20+ farms my trainer buddies and i have worked with, i have not seen one sign of physical abuse done to any of our horses. why would we want to make our $100k beauties un-sound or lame?
@ridingisasport of course they do! there are many, many shows where flat shoes and natural tails are a must! many people, like myself, choose not to use chains/heavy shoes which could possibly cause discomfort or pain. though to some people, chains may look cruel, im sure the trainers in videos like this one that use these devices are taking certain precautions not to hurt or damage their horses an any way. they are experienced trainers who know what their doing to not cause much pain :)
@SaddlebredAddict I realize the chains probably wouldnt do much harm unless they were very heavy or left on for a very long time. I have more of an issue with those shoes, and the strong curb bits used. I think its kinda unappealing to have such long shanks. Another thing...can you tell me why the rider sits so very far back ? it looks really weird to me. Thanks :)
@ridingisasport the saddlebred is bred to have their center of balance further back on their spine. that makes it very strong in that area, stronger than most other breeds, which usually have their balance closer to the withers. the rider also further back (usually using a cutback saddle) to lift the weight off the withers and allow more freedom and movement of the front legs (which helps the breed to pick their feet up higher, in a flashier fashion).
@ridingisasport as for the large padded, heavy shoes, i completely agree with you on that one! its awful what some owners can do to their horses feet. and though some bits absolutely disgust me, most are only as cruel as the hand that is controlling them. some trainers can keep their horse happy in a full show bridle (with soft hands and no pulling/ hanging). but it can also be vice versa: some can make even a simple snaffle painful to a horse.
@ridingisasport youre welcome. any time! and thank you for your open-mindedness; it is very refreshing to not have someone automatically shunning the breed because it looks/ moves differently :)
@15moonlight mainly its a natural breed trait. just look at any of those foals doing the exact same thing. but we also work with the horses, MOST of us using all-natural training, to make it more flashy (which people commonly mistake for 'unnatural').
@Shirly2458 Yes, i agree I would love to see where the spotted saddlebred started, I myself have a spotted saddlebred and she goes back 13 generations of World Champions, even though she just turned 4 i think she might throw some nice spotted ones. And, do you by any chance know a website we could post a Stallion for sale, that we really need to get rid off, because of down-sizing?
quick question, is the trot bumpy? even when rising? because when the lady was trotting at around 0:55 it seemed a bit bumpy. I'm wondering about saddlebred's trot in general.
It looks a little bumpy, but no more than if you were riding a normal horse. ((Of course, some horses naturally have a smoother gait than others)) It looks like that because the woman is posting. Posting is basically rising out of the saddle every other stride of the horse's forelegs. It makes the ride much more comfortable for the horse and the rider.
@funnybunny225ify good comment and your right this hose loves his work and loves to show. I just rode him 2 weeks ago a week after he turned 22 and look for pictures of that event on facebook he was outstanding!
it's interesting how in comparison to the tölt of icelandic horses, where the rider is sitting very still, the rider of a saddlebred horse is bouncing up and down in the saddle.
@femaleforester - that's because in this video Monaco is trotting. The rack is the gait that is similar to an Icelandic tölt.
Monaco is not gaited, so therefore he doesn't rack or slow gait. The tölt is a lateral gait - what his owner (the woman) is riding is a diagonal gait (aka the trot).
he is the foxiest horse i have ever seen.i go to the state fair just to see the saddlebreds, but i have never seen one with such coloring.frikkin gorgeous!!!!
EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL! I plan on leasing, hopefully by next year, but I don't think I'll get a pinto, I want an all black stallion.^_^ More than likely a Morgan or Hackney.
@saddlebred25 I wish the Saddlebred folks would use the Del Mare All Breed pedigree site to list their horses. They are among the few people who Don't put their horses pedigrees there. Aren't they important. I would like to see where the spotted Saddlebreds started.
@tunagirll Yes, you do have that data, but for members only. The Del mar site is FREE and you can post a picture. I have been out of Saddlebreds for 30 years. Now only TBs and Warmbloods
3;14 is one of his foals at National Show Horse Finals and they have open classes for any breed. But that is Hot Monica and really cool mare by Monaco =)
Wow. Very handsome. I've never been in an English Pleasure or a Saddle seat class except with my walkers, (flatshod). I've never ridden a Saddlebred, but it looks amazing. :D
Beautiful horse! I'm not a huge fan of English Pleasure cause it looks painful and does take a toll on their legs after a while, but I will admit that this horse is absolutely gorgeous.
Oh wow. Monaco and his foals are truely amazing. I'm not a huge fan of Saddlebreds but he puts a whole new look on the breed. Beautiful stallion. LOVE the tail. Congrats to him and his foal crop!
Amazing horse. Very beautiful to watch. I wish him and all of his foals good health. Amazing job with what youve done with him and his foals. Again, hes stunning, and all of his foals are too.
wow hes so pretty. but im wondering how in the world do you manage the tail? and not get it caught in the wheels of the cart. i bet that would be disatrous.
Lovely horses! I always found it weird waving the plastic bag in halter. I know they are trying to get the horses attention and get that bugged eyed look. Wouldn't work for my Arab/saddlebred because I used to bring him apples in plastic bags so he is pretty much desensitized to them.
