I saw this interview with an FBI imformant that inflatrated (sorry for bad spelling) into their group and said that they would put people who were strictly capitalist in an education program and if they didn't conform they would be killed. He said there were and estimated twenty five million people that would be elimated if everything went right for them. If you don't belive me look it up, its freakin frightening.
The Weathermen were not involved with the Nixon aministration at all except to work at overthrowing it. SDS should have reformed stronger and kept going after the WUO went underground in 1970. The WUO could do their bombing while SDS led the demonstrations and worked the campus.

Communism is a completely centralized government that is not accountable to the will of the people. I would argue the Weathermen were trying to make the government accountable to the will of the people, and therefore, they were advocates of representative democracy. Even Thomas Jefferson (below) advocated the overthrow of the government when it disregarded the division of powers, suppressed citizen dissent, and mirrored totalitarianism, of which, the Nixon administration was guilty of.

Efforts to demonize either candidate have no place in such debate. Neither has false logic, such as the claim that when X endorses Y, Y is in any way accountable for the actions of X. I saw this interview with an FBI imformant that inflatrated (sorry for bad spelling) into their group and said that they would put people who were strictly capitalist in an education program and if they didn't conform they would be killed. Most of you are looking at this time period through the lens of the world as of 2009. Things in the late 60's and early 70's were far different than they were now. Many people actually did think that a sea change was sweeping the world and wanted to be a part of it. could you provide proof? Dohrn and Ayers were pardoned based on a statute of limitations, it says so in the film. The only person that I know of that is incarcerated is that man doing a life sentence bc after the Weather Underground surrendered/disbabnded he was part of another group who set off a bomb in an empty squad car, accidentally killing 2 people.

There are no statutes of limitations for bombing federal buildings or murder II, which in N.Y. law covers deaths of people while aiming to commit a felony (deaths of 3 in Greenwich Village bomb with bomb meant for Columbia library and Ft. Dix dance). Weathermen Gilbert and Clark are doing life for murders by Brinks gang which killed at least 4. Dohrn was never charged though clearly implicated in Brink's murders. Communism is a completely centralized government that is not accountable to the will of the people. I would argue the Weathermen were trying to make the government accountable to the will of the people, and therefore, they were advocates of representative democracy. Even Thomas Jefferson (below) advocated the overthrow of the government when it disregarded the division of powers, suppressed citizen dissent, and mirrored totalitarianism, of which, the Nixon administration was guilty of.

all the people who advocate the underground's position here should then accept justification for an equal/opposite group who disagrees with YOU. They bomb your offices or homes, kill you or your loved ones. THEN continue to say its justifiable.

i am personally against violence, but in situations like those it is totally justifiable.
if people dont react to what authorities do, then authorities will not be afraid to opress the people. if people react immediately to situations and do whatever is needed to make things better, then no one will ever dare oppress anyone.

Cool cool. Thanks for clarifying where you're coming from. :) I don't like war either, but I can see it's necessity when force is the only "language" that some foes are willing to understand.
I also agree that while a state can brainwash people, an ideology can brainwash just as easily. Radical Islam is a perfect example. Either way, whether state-started (which are rooted in certain ideologies) or purely independent ideology...it's still a war of ideologies, know what I mean?

We tried to stop the war in marches and so many peacefull struggles that only brought us violence from the pigs and the government as so many thousands were being killed each week in Southeast Asia. Mainstream America were sheep that needed to see the war brought home to have a reality what was happening. Nixon was a War criminal just as Bush is. God bless Bernardine, Billy, and the rest of the guy's that gave it to the cause.

They got frustrated with "the system" and they reverted to violence. Or are you talking about the hippie comment? Hippies are mainly socialists. Check out the Haight Ashbury. That was a socliaist experiment in San Francisco. The underground's ideas are close to the socialist ideas there. Funny how socialists hate government but then want bigger government to take its place.

cont. Vietnam was a mistake because the North leader was one of few Communist leaders that would have been freindly toward us and south leader was total jackass and tyrant. But, after accepting the war started because the gov. was scared as hell and had every right to be so at the time, we were oh so close to attaining victory, pulling out when we did was the largest injustice we made. a lot of people don't know how bad the media slanted against the troops durrying the war also.
