Richtofen was maxis' right hand. and after this samantha ran behind her dog to teleport, and maxis behind them, Richtofen closed doors and teleported them. maxis died, samantha got demon voice and her dog was 1st hellhound.

(which is why they have blue eyes afterwards instead of the yellow eyes previously)

If you keep playing after Richtofen and Samantha switch bodies, you can here Richtofen talking now everytime you get power-up, like Nuke or Fire Sale or w/e. Plus, it was all Richtofen's plan from the start. You can tell when you go to the Moon, he says something like "My plan is almost complete!.... I mean, oh, the moon, how interesting" or something like that. Also, when you blow up Earth you unlock the achievement "Richtofen's Grand Scheme".
