One question I have to ask is, how did they pull off the style? The main lines of the characters in the film look like a graphite pencil effect. How did it manage to transfer to painted cell so flawlessly?
Hi, All the animation was drawn on paper and then xeroxed onto cel (clear acetate sheets) which were then flipped over and painted on the reverse by hand using Chromacolour animation paints.
On later episodes the pencil drawings were scanned into a computer and individually painted by hand using software. Digicel's Flipbook is great for this kind of work, though it wasn't used on this series.
Seems my wishes made in my previous comment a year ago have been heard, and I found the Forgotten Toys movie and TV series as a DVD set in HMV today. Didn't have to think twice about buying it. Thank you for being a part in making this wonderful series.
Hi, I was the principal key animator of Teddy in the Christmas special. In the TV series spin off I was Animation Director, key animator (one of 3 on each ep), storyboard artist and character designer for half of all the episodes produced.
ZOMG I loved this so much. II adore the animation :D I've got the original short film on dvd but can't find the others? Are they on dvd or is there any way we can get them to be released on dvd?
Please does ANYONE know the name of the song at the end of the christmas episode? I lost my video of the forgotten toys and I remember crying every time
Thanks for the message. Very few of the toys were made unfortunately and are now no longer available. I wish I'd bought a boxfull based on the number of people who've asked me if I knew where they could find them.
Yes, you're right. "The Forgotten Toys" was originally a 30 min Christmas Special. I was one of the key animators on it, concentrating mainly on the development of Bob Hoskins' Teddy character. A couple of years later the show was developed into a TV series on which I was co-Directing Animator.
