  • where/when is this concert? I want a copy

  • the sound they get is loud and raw. That is The White Stripes, loud and raw. The idea of minimalist percussion goes back to bluesman tapping their feet while playing. If you don't like her, then don't listen to it. I personally think that the percussion emphasizes jacks guitar just perfectly to allow the huge sound that you're hearing. Some people often forget that only 2 instruments are being played.

  • I love this song!!!

  • meg turns me on when she plays drums

  • I don't know about this Meg drumming thing. Jack definitely carries the duo. But take a look at the Black Keys, Pat's drumming, I'd say in the majority of their songs, is essential, whereas, from my limited White Stripes experience, Meg's is just a secondary item to Jack.

Drumming is important, but it really depends on what you're looking for in a band.

  • The drumming must drive all "real" drummers crazy. But Jack has said that White Stripes gives him freedom that he doesn't get with other bands (with more conventional setups and more skilled drummers). So it is the primative nature of her playing that gives him that springboard. So I say more power to it.

  • Meg does it like as she is learning to play it

  • @vernantes And you write "like as" you've only recently discovered English.

  • I agree with Funk... Meg's minimalistic style works better with Jack's guitar playing and would'nt sound as good if she was to busy. I mean this is a two piece here. I do'nt mind hearing a busy drummer behind Jack when it was a full band. Saying Meg hits with tremendous power and force is not a good obersevation of her in the vids, those words are overstated but I am not saying she is a light hitter like most these days.

  • I would do anything to have been able to see this live. It's one of my favourite song!

  • Does anybody happen to know what gig this is from?

  • @thatboyneedstherapy To answer my own question: Sydney, Australia, 10.11.2003

  • best jack has sounded

  • so anyone else a deathmetalhead/white stripes fan? i feal lonely.

  • @sheetstain69 Dude, I totally am! I love death metal and the White Stripes. They go well together, I think; both got that raw energy about 'em.

  • @uduman1 nice! yes they do im also a guitarist and jacks a badass so that ads to it. have you heard the extremely terrible news yet?

  • @sheetstain69 Yeah dude, they broke up... what a drag. There will still be unreleased stuff coming out, though. Still, no touring, so I never got to see 'em live... shit sucks.

  • @uduman1 yeah i never saw em either, and the same day Nergal from Behemoth went back the hospital becuz he got an infection in his bone marrow transplant...sigh..lol terrible start to a year

  • @uduman1 I feel you man :-(

  • boy she rocks, in a simple way and i´m learning this album´s drums, i´m so happy, i´m playing almost all elephant drums, my neighbours don´t care, LoL

  • who knew angels could rock a drum kit like that

  • Meg rocks man. Would be a completely different band/sound without her.

  • people need to know the white stripes have no set list , no plan and no idea what is going to happen in a show. meg follows jack and if you can keep up with him for even an hour your golden with his solos and improved middles yeah its going to take some skill

  • two words to describe the stripes, Deceptive simplicity!

  • Jack White is amazing, and I WANT THOSE PANTS!

  • I don't care what you're all talkin' about.

    but this is magic man.

    white stripes best band ever.

  • Songs about learning maths rock!

  • i dont' care how meg plays i just care about the song i hear and this IS AWESOME!

  • His singing on live stuff sounds like character voices... fucking kicks ass!

  • Its not that its basic, its that it suits the song

  • i wouldn't mind meg bangin on my drum, and that for real!

  • i wouldn't mind meg bangin on my drum, and thats for real.

  • Jack and Meg are just perfect together musicly!

  • go ahead and criticize Meg's playing while she plays in front of thousands of people and you sit in front of your computer

  • is this show available on dvd anywhere?

  • whew, good to find this one!

  • White Stripes show that Rock and Roll will never die. Jack and Meg just keep on getting better and better. I love them.

  • Oh my fucking goodness! Those arms of Jack white!!! Yummy.. and he doesnt even use body enhancers like a certain guy i used to have a crush on...that slut

  • @starpoints didn't they already get back together when they made the album icky thump??

  • Meg adds sex to sexy , she is one bad-ass drummer ....rock on Meg

  • the guitar is a jb hutto montgomery airline... i think

  • If these guys dont reform i'll go insane!!!

  • what guitar is he using

  • There may be many more talented players out there, but few to none have soul like Meg White. And soul is more beautiful and important in any art form.

  • Oh this is just fucking magic. She is brilliant with her something-between-backbeat-and-erratic-beat and he is so violently expressive. Wonderful! And I wish I could just be somewhere near the side of the stage and join in with my rhythm guitar (ever-so-slightly) mixed in. Their onstage joint persona is also extremely intriguing. This is the fuckin' business!

  • @insaneinthebrain1978 U MUST BE FUCKIN BRAIN DEAD TO THINK THAT U D.B.

  • jack white is a genius

  • People who don't like Meg's drumming must seriously be out of their minds. She's just as important a band member as Jack White is.

  • @RedPunk1990 Well i wouldn't go that far. I'd even even say Jack is a better drummer. I think Meg is a competent musician, but she's in the band for the aesthetic. She's got an awkward playing style and an odd look that make her interesting to watch.

    That, and she haz boobz

  • @RedPunk1990 R U kidding me??????

  • this is so pure and raw...mindbending.

  • he mixes up his solos for different live performances so much, this wasn't my fave of them all but it still kicks ass

  • FUCKING AWESOME!!! such a great band :).. anyone know when their next tour/album may be?

  • @Haemorrhold Well, the band broke up in 2007 due to Meg's acute anxiety. She's better now, so sometime in the next few years they may reform, but noone's really sure. I hope they reform, though. The White Stripes are epic.

  • Maybe her anxiety's probably due to playing in a giant arena versus the clubhouse rooms she used to play in.

Agree, though. I hope she's alright.

  • @Haemorrhold I would sincerely doubt that they'll ever get back together.

  • black math is fantastic!

  • This is so punk fuck yeah!!! :D

  • even after playing justone song they must be exhausted. evn just playing blue orchid just once with that much energy exhausts me.

  • I have a theory that taking enough drugs to kill every elephant on earth makes it easier. But then again Jack White is a god.

  • this song is just awesome! badass riff, too bad that like most of their songs is so fucking underrated

i love jack's hair on this! this show must've been insane!

  • most of their songs is underrated, but 7 Nation is fucking overrated compared to their other stuff.

It's alway the same thing with mainstream...

  • I must see them before I die, its pure electric energy on that stage.

  • No no no, Big Day Out is Australia. This is V Festival, hence the huge blue V in the corner... :P

Awesome. Look at Jack's hair, it's excellent.

  • I want Jacks Airline guitar!

  • and not only his guitar :D

  • I want to belong to Meg White! O god how I want her. . . .

  • FUCK YEAH!!!

  • So fuckin' good!!!!

  • fuckin crazy with that solo man!!

  • Guys who don't like Meg must not like fine-ass women. HUBBA HUBBA

  • This is the story of my life

  • please, write what concert is that? 'V' logo cant help. I love this show!

  • This was live in Sydney australia, 2003.

  • livid

  • Probably "big day out" festival.

  • Don't you think I'm about to react now?

  • meg is the sweetist thing on earth!

  • please marry me meg!!

  • black math is underrated shit!

  • fuck why is every tom dick and harry fussing over whos the best at what?

she is moderatley good but plays in a unique style, if you had some other random person playing this song instead of meg, it would not sound as good because its their unique style that plays a big part in making the song- even shit musicians can sound good once they get playing together- honestly, some people need to get over this shit fast and just enjoy the music and their style for what it is- brilliant!

  • Meg is the best drummer in the world

  • no no no no, shes good but not the best

  • REAL RECOGNIZES REAL

  • I have seen them 5 times in concert. I have waited for 8 hours in the pouring rain at the front of a crowd of thousands to see them. I am a drummer. Meg White may not be the best drummer on earth but she can keep a beat and it sounds great. If anyone thinks that you have to keep the same tempo all the way through to make a good song then you are obviously tremendously dull in your music taste, and you have also never listened to the who, therefore you have no say in anyone's music taste :).

  • I agree, but I also find that Meg does excell at keeping beats impeccably when it's required of her. And one thing the people who bash Meg never seem to think about; would it really sound as good if she was doing complex rolls and odd beats? She hits with tremendous power and force, and that not only reinforces and enhances Jack but also allows the listener to hear the raw essentials of the guitar parts. I wouldn't have them any other way.

  • @Funkheuser this is blues, the beat doest have to be a exact bmp, its about emotion, they can raise and lower tempo to make the message stronger, and i believe she can play more advanced stuff then what we see too.

that is because this is blues, not technical metal. i feel sad for people that is so musically handicapped that they dont see her talent and dislikes this music because it isn't intoxicated with studio magic.

  • @georgiacass no, c'mon, of course she's great. but saying that she's good only because she can keep the beat and look good is terrible excuse... i am nobody and i can keep perfect beat...so... whatever...she's good, and fuck yeah, fuck you haters, lololololz, who cares for your opinion, I even am not that terribly into liking anything at all...whatever, bye bitches....good luck Stripes!

  • shifts in tempo is a key ingredience that seperates the best from the average in rock. This tune live is so good I sometimes have to take a break from listening to it just to calm myself down :D

  • call it twat ever you like, maam'

  • 'everything should be the same tempo all time time' is about the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

  • oh so you like boring music

  • He said that it was stupid Oo

  • 1:49

    DAAAAAAAAMN.

  • Dudes, if you think any shifts in tempo are unprofessional and terrible musically, your retarted. Keith Moon made a living off of that. Mike Portnoy drums in and out of tempos all the time. There are two of the greatest drummers of all time who use tempo shifts. Last time i checked, they aren't exactly terrible musicians.

  • Well it's just retarded to think your song has to be this 4/4 chunk the whole way. Best songs in my opinion are well painted pictures or well written stories. Start with an intro, build a bridge, verse, chorus.

As far as prog rock goes... not bad. But if you want a good example of heartfelt proper music, the blues would be a good example.

  • i think thats what makes the white stipes so awesome, not that her drumming is basic but it fits jaks style perfectly in my opinion

  • the part where he turns on the muff the first time makes me cum

  • wow man

  • hell ya

  • Crackling, poping, squeeking.... Just like opening the packadge to a brand new favorite toy.

    The fuzz is perfect.

  • black math is god

  • idiot, Jack White would't say that!

  • The White Stripes rock harder than any other band in the fucking world.

  • the point both of you agree on is that jack whips out a mean solo, which is right

  • Whats wrong with "Basic Drumming." You like a "Basic" hand job don't you? Haters....

  • It's not that serious dude. Yes, there are some very slight mistakes that only a musician would even recognize. But it hardly affects the song at all. You're just being nitpicky at this point, and I don't even like Meg White's drumming.

  • usually its jack who changes the tempo... he does it a lot... he does it for fun... he has talked about it... i applaud meg for being able to follow his cues... if you look, before any tempo change he'll look at her and give her a subtle signal... so blame jack not meg!

  • haha they'll mark you down but i agree. i'd prefer to see jack on stage tearing it up solo just tapping his foot or maybe have a drum machine haha

  • Poetry dude :')

  • @missmymissy

only if its from a guy

  • @missmymissy

Valid point.... when it works, it works

  • @missmymissy the problem with basic drumming is that the girl is so amateur she can't even hold her sticks in th right way or set her drum seat right, she's almost standing instead of sitting. I wouldn't let her play even at an elementary school day... For fuck sake these to people are really amateurs and someone sold them to you as artist just because they"re alternatives..

  • @BodiZoltan you're just jealous because you are watching them on the screen and not the other way around. everyone knows that restraint is the best thing that a musician can learn. the worst musicians are the ones that throw in all kinds of bells and whistles when they aren't needed just because they feel like the audience will judge them for having no skills.

  • @cottonkrown well one thing is if you're a good musucian and you know when/where the song needs minimal themes and another thing is that you so amateur you can only play minamal themes...

  • @BodiZoltan

Even is she was hanging upside down on a chain, playing the drums, what makes the fkking difference. She got famous with it and you obviously didn't.

  • @BodiZoltan ur dumb :]

  • @NoGeLinMyHair17 Yeah, right. Now you told me the shit. For God's sake if you wanna fight back at least do it in more mature way.. " your dumb because...etc"

  • @BodiZoltan ur still dumb cuz everyone else that clicked this video watched it to be entertained, you came to talk shit, so who's the real immature one? :]

  • @BodiZoltan and also you call this basic drumming, you say jacks an amateur. what the fuck did you upload hmmm,...prolly something that a 3 year old asian can play. yupp talking shit cuz ur music cant even compare. fuck off. :]

  • such a great riff with a dirty ass solo (meant as a compliment)

  • are you an idiot,

do you always over analyze something someone says?

  • well heres the thing.. no one really cares

you take this madly out of proportion,

    relax

dont let it ruin your night mate

  • uh.. I'm not the one getting worked up ; )

  • her drumming is so basic

  • this song is very close to (no one knows) by queens of the stoneage

  • hahahahahah no one knows is played much more slowly... and the singing isnt even remotely the same!

  • does jack have a 7stringer?

  • nope regular 6 string guitar with a digitech whammy pedal

  • the solo is MLG,beast or anyother kool adjective that i can think of

  • Damned, I with I singed as good as him =)

  • Now I have to say, this is one sexy as hell song with a sexy as hell riff but I can name a few White Stripes songs- no, quite a few- that are this great.

Who needs bass when your guitar has this dirty growly moan to it?

  • This is one bad ass concert.

  • Aside from the fact that this song is killer (that C-G x4 to A is a nasty riff), the chemistry between Jack and Meg is magical.

  • Their best song!! Fantastic!

  • i always get dissapointed when some of my fav bands that use 1 guitar used 2 in live, like nirvana, blink-182, killers etc...( i am not criticiest then, it must be really hard to play with just 1 guitar)

BUT THIS ...THIS IS JUST....I MEAN I DIDN'T EVEN KNEW THE PEOPLE CAN PLAY ROCK WITHOUTH BASSXD LOL

  • Look into the black keys. It's just two guys and Dan Auerbach can shred it. Different but lately I can't get enough of these two bands.

  • buy a dictionary dude!

  • i've been listening to the white stripes for eight years, and i still can't get over how amazing they are.

  • Holy Shit.

    I came.

  • I can't believe this is just 2 people.

  • i know men how interesting....^^...backstree boys are like 6 or something i dont know dont care, and they dont make anyway near music as good as this

  • God has gifted these people hail TWS!!!

  • My favorite song, though i think they perform it too fast live, he doesn't get a good chance to rip solos.

  • i agree

  • Their concert's like a jam session and one thousand of their friends showed up. Just two instruments and they still rock.

    Five stars.

  • they'd be so fucking cool to watch live...

  • dude i know, i had tickets to their next two shows in Sept. of 2007, ACL fest and Stubb's ACL after show. Then they canceled the tour. Still havent seen them live. sorry about the over share :).

  • I love Black Math LIVE, i'd like be there and jump with the crowd

Agree with the comments about jack's hair, it's freaking amazing

  • Thanks punkfromthe70s your alright...

  • hes gotta be the only one who can get away with that mental hair and still b hot

  • freggin boss! the white stripes just plain rule.

  • anyone noticed jacks hair changes a lot between the songs in this concert

  • he looks like robert smith with that crazy hair!!

  • God damn! That Big Muff breakdown at 1:01 is so fucking thick! And that solo, yeah they are both badass.
