  • Are you still trying to do this??? I want to be apart of it, but I need to know, what exactly are you trying to do?

  • There should be more black women in games. I created my first black female CAW in SMVR2K11. Next I'll have an army and call it "Elite Nubian Force" lol

  • THANK YOU! I love this video I support you 100% us black female gamers must dominate. Wow this is inspiring

  • I go to school for simulation and game development so I'm already in the "male dominated" industry. I plan to create a game with the first black female character lead. I do notice the only women that are portrayed in games are white or Asian and half the time they are half naked. I want women in games in general to still be beautiful but be portrayed just as strong and bad ass as the males.

  • I'm also a black female and I have been dreaming of starting my own game development studio since at least my junior year in high school (2000-01). I've been playing games since the late 80's though mostly a backseat observer to my brothers playing because I preferred to follow the story and analyze the games. I want to develop my stories, characters, and "immersive experiences" into games that everyone can enjoy and I won't settle for anything less.

  • Also... I think just literally putting yourself out there, like 'WE EXIST!!' IS the important work, whether it's videos, podcasts, blogs, whatever. You don't have to break your bank, just talking about your experiences is awesome. I'm also seeing the usual folks not taking gaming seriously, and not taking black women seriously, in your speech. Just keep proving you are here & not gonna go away!! (I still wish you played WoW lol)

  • I soooooo wish you played WoW!!! <3

  • What we need are more black people working together to make black video games.

  • Can you tell me a code for The Sims™ 3 Community! i can't sing up pls!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Black + woman + gamer

That might be the best damn concoction I have ever heard of!

  • @TheEyesOfSelassie You better believe it! Shoot, plan to have t-shirts!

  • I'm in!!! Now, if only i can play on my brothers pS3...

  • I have created many characters- some incomplete in what I want them to be, but I most certainly don't want them to be stereotypes. It's kinda hard not to, but overcoming that challenge is wicked rewarding. I'm planning on getting into the gaming industry and introducing my many characters and stories- as well as ideas for game play and the like. There are many people who hide from the truth but it's there. There needs to be a change because I think video games is a huge part of pop culture.

  • @KomicTurtle: omg i feel the same way. As a black guy majoring in animation, I find it hard to not stereotype black characters. As you said though, overcoming it is rewarding and I will be victorious. I need to remember I'm not the character, but given a non stereotypical black personality. Whether it's anger, or not camping/hiking, and or doing things "white" people would do. So think i've been doing a pretty good job at that.

  • It sure doesn't rub me the wrong way. The main character of my comic book series- I envision him to have a faint spanish accent, brown eyes, dark brown hair and tan skin (some friends say he kinda looks like me- but it's just a coincidence). There really are no huge representations for other ethnicity. Most main stream gaming characters have blue eyes, well built in terms of being athletic or muscular. And if it's a black guy- they are big, strong and that's just stereotyping.

  • Explained it beautifully. We are not represented at all. I was rooting for you to get picked on the Tester, It is REDinfamy. This is a great movement. No one will speak up for us but us. I demise when people say a subgroup of representation is wrong. So is a women network sexist? is GQ magazine sexist ,no.There r WIG and BIG, they are strong minority groups in the gaming world to show case talents in certain communities in a white male dominate industry. What is wrong with that people? smh

  • I would also know how I can help as well. I have been trying to get ppl to do soemthign like this for years.

  • Umm..Im A Hispanic Male But i Dont Know How Old I Would Have To Be And Im Not A African/American Female But If Would Consider Helping Can Could YoU Help? Im lost .-...

  • I <3 IT WHEN YOU SAY "I Wont Keep You Long Under 10 Minutes" Then The Videos 21 Minutes I <3 ESSENCEOFTRUTH!:D

  • lol dr seuss tee shirt 1 fish 2 fish red fish blue fish lol

  • lol dr seuss tee shirt 1 fish 2 fish green fish blue fish lol

  • i want to be apart of what youre doing so bad...i love your videos....we think alike, from being younger wanting to go to comic con,e3 having that love for it

  • true everything you said is kinda what i'm going thru now u think you know people you really don't

  • You didn't go into detail in this video about what exactly you are trying to do.

You are trying to get companies to create more black female video game characters? Is that correct? Or is there more to it?

  • @iamsmartacus There is more to it and I intentionally didn't go into detail because 1: Its still in developmental stages and 2: I don't want anyone trying to do what I am trying to do in the way that I am trying to do it. lol! Its sacred to me and what I am actually working on is gonna stay secret until I decide to talk about it.

  • 'scuse me HM...... KFC!

  • @weirdnessofthem Hahah! Man, those popcorn chicken from there was good! And I am not a regular KFC fan (I like Bojangles better!). But, those things are good! But, its was giving me indigestion. =____=* I can't eat like I use to growing up. I cut a lot of that stuff out. I may have to...get rid of the popcorn chicken from there, too! *CRIES HYSTERICALLY*

  • @EssenceOfTruth I love those little moments you have :P

  • @EssenceOfTruth I love those little moments you have :P *CRIES* NO MOAR POPCORN CHICKEN

  • @weirdnessofthem Hahah! Me, too! But, I hate it at the same time because to me, its so rude! lol! But, I couldn't help it because I couldn't stop it! lol! I wanted to go "BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRP!!" and then hope and pray that would be the last interruption that I would have! LOL! But, I played it safe and it killed meh!

  • @EssenceOfTruth: Heyyy. i didn't know you then but i did comment on one of your older vids about black characters. I'm going to be a sophomore in college this yr majoring in Digital Media and my concentration is is digital media. I've drawn many black female characters mostly for fantasy and sci-fi. I would like to join your movement. I really would! I can and I won't chicken out. How do I join cuz you;are the only person I know passionate about this than myself.

  • Check out the Sugar Gamers!~

  • Hell yes! I'm part black, 44 and female! LOVE THIS!!!

  • @CandysAllMediaReview Yes! Another veteran gamer like myself! Its an honor to meet you, ma'am! ^__^*

  • What ever happened to "Its a Guy Thing" Whit? Thats still in production right cuz im so excited to be a part of it ^__^*

  • @Jamar84 I kind of had to scrap it, Jamar. The other two guys that I had signed on to voice them never kept in touch with me and it became increasingly hard to find someone to replace them. So, I put it to the side until one day finding the voices for the two characters.

  • @thefunnygamer13 Not necessarily "play", but I still film with it! ^__^*

  • If only I was a black female ...

  • @TheCdestre lol! You don't have to be to check out what I am doing. Its all good!

  • @EssenceOfTruth Oh, good, because i am a 13 year old white male. :)

  • @TheCdestre Even better! You can get involved and spread the good word when I have the first site up and running!

  • @EssenceOfTruth Yay! I will! I've followed you ever since like 2 years ago, so I know most of what you do, and I love it!

  • I would love to get involved with this topic. even though my gaming collection has come to a halt for awhile. iam trying though to step my game up. but i do agree that we have to take a stand for ourselves. maybe something like this will get the attention of game developers to change up some things.

  • @lovelygirly06 I know how you feel! If the money isn't there, the game won't be bought! Simple as that! I can wait! lol! Its a rule I put on myself.

  • Good Luck Whitney I'll be following your trip through this project. This video was great because every time I see a BlackEssence video in my sub box, I get excited.

  • @nothinnothin3 Awww! Heheh! That makes me feel good that I was at least able to give you something to see. It really is hard trying to do videos with interest as I did before, but this is something that I plan to really focus on and I may do a new channel just for that purpose! Its in the thought stages...

  • I'm serious when i say this, I would love to help. Even though my transportation is limited, i would still love to help.

  • @InChainsiStillRemain Aww, ICISR! I was working on an interview form for the group I was trying to put together, but after seeing everyone's reactions and then changed reactions, I scrapped it. But, if you are really serious...I will work on it again and let you know all about it! I appreciate your enthusiasm, babe! ^___^*

  • @EssenceOfTruth Suh-Weeet!

  • I'm a black girl and i love video games. I can WOOP anybodies ass in MORTAL KOMBAT!!!

  • @Rushalee Heheheh! I use to be pretty good with Kitana back in the day! LOL! But, that is awesome, girl! *highfives*

  • @EssenceOfTruth I'm good with Sonya Blade, my brother's couldn't beat me with her.

  • @Rushalee My favourite is Scorpion. But i also like Rayden. Ever play Street fighter?

  • @InChainsiStillRemain Yeah i like street fighters too, my favourites are Ryu, and ken!!

  • @InChainsiStillRemain OMG, an MK fan!!!!!! Me too!! XD I like *deep breath* Sub-Zero, Kung Lao, Rayden, and Liu Kang, Scorpion's cool as a character but, I don't really play with him. I love MK's story line...up to DA anyway.

  • @Rushalee I'm rusty but I wonder if you could woop mine lol?!!! It'd have to be strictly UMK3 on Sega Saturn though rotfl!

  • you don't have to do it by yourself.

I've opened my mouth in the fighting game community about black female gamers. Received both negative and positive comments. What could I do to be a part of this. And I'm not joking. I'm serious.

  • @isaiyan Its been a while since I heard from you! How have you been? ^__^* Well, I was working on like these little interview form thingies. But, I stopped as soon as I saw people's reactions when I explained to them what I was trying to do in full passion. This may turn out to be BIG or this may fail. Whatever happens, I can live with the fact that I know I tried to make progress, then I would have no regrets at all.

  • @EssenceOfTruth Still playing. I have a few tournaments lined up so I've been playing a lot recently.

I hope it works out for you. I see you have passion for this and I'm sure you know of the backlash you may get in doing this. However, it doesn't hurt to try. Sometimes turning heads is the only way to make people pay attention :)

  • @isaiyan Heheh! I have been talking about this for a long time and I have seen all forms, but I have noticed that I have had more positive views (mostly from males!) on this than bad. And I hope and pray that if I do get some backlash, that it won't be as mad as the devil is making me think its going to be. I hope and pray I am wrong on ALL accounts! But, I thank you and I do plan to let you know what I plan to do!

  • @EssenceOfTruth It's good to see people like you being open about this topic. It's very rare to see another fellow black women interrested in video games because usually it's not common. But i'm the type of girl that is open minded about things. I do not fit into this stereotype that people label black woman as, i consider myself completely different.

  • @Rushalee Amen, sistah! LOL! I agree as I, too, don't like to be labeled and I don't like to be common. That's why I invented the term "Lady Gamers", but lady gamers are rare. I am a lady gamer and how I carry myself is unlike any other female who games. That is what my network is all about.

  • Why does it have to be Black?

    Not just Women

Also, I reckon... if you have 5 minute videos like you use to before you left, you'd get more views from the subscription modules

  • @aprimic In my opinion, and not trying to argue with you...just hear me out. It shouldn't have to be black. It should just be about gamers and gaming in general. However, race is used in terms of judging gamers in my personal experience. You would think in this day and age something like this shouldn't even be considered. But the sad thing is, black female gamers are under represented. If they were represented equally as other gamers there wouldn't be a need for what she is trying to accomplish

  • @isaiyan Why is there need to prove something which doesn't need to be proved? It's good that girls are on YouTube making those gameplay videos, it shows that they're not as bad as some make out. A black person isn't represented as a better/worse player and therefore shouldn't need to be split up into a different category, all this is doing is implying that blacks are whites aren't in the same category. It's not helping the situation that we live in this day and age.

  • @aprimic Its not about PROVING anything! It's about IMPROVING the status of women who aren't represented enough. I am no saying that we, as black women, have to show that we are better at gaming! I'm saying that we, as black women, have to show that we DO game and that there are more to us than what we are being given in games right now! You don't know how many messages I get from young black girls who are embarrassed about being gamers because of friends and family.

  • @EssenceOfTruth I guess to understand this, I'd need to be in your situation. To be honest, I didn't even realise there was a problem at hand in this matter. You say it's not about proving anything, but surely by trying to show that you black females do game, you're trying to prove it. You can't improve something without proof. I don't see why this needs to be proven anyway, it's like stating the obvious.

  • @aprimic I guess, for me...proof is gonna come. But, not from me. If that makes sense. lol! I, me, feel like I don't have to prove anything...other than to make aware. That's what I am trying to do as a whole. Make aware of the issue, make aware that WE ARE here, and make aware that there needs to be more representatives. That's my main goal. To equalize the waters, not dominate it. It is hard to see from a black woman's point of view and I don't expect alot of people to understand.

  • @aprimic I guess what I am asking from people who are none black...is to empathize. They may never FULLU understand, but if you could just empathize and spit on it and put it down....that's all I can ask for.

  • @aprimic This IS a problem! And not talking about it or addressing it doesn't get rid of the problem. It makes it worse! And to ignore it, in my opinion, makes a person IGNORANT! People don't want to talk about it because it makes them feel uncomfortable. People don't want to acknowledge it because people are afraid to and are afraid of what people may think of them. If that kind of thinking didn't exist, I wouldn't have to make something for women like me. Its not hard to understand.

  • @aprimic Again, this is from my experience but I've had to work hell of a lot harder than other women in the games that I play. I don't mind working hard but the reasons I have to take that extra step have been based on my race which bothers me. I look at gamers as "gamers" while some look at me as a "black gamer." I will admit though that the extra work has paid off in me being sponsored but the mentality of some (not all) in the community I'm involved in is less than pleasing.

  • @isaiyan Your experiences is definitely one of the many things I plan to speak on and plus my experiences as well. I honestly believe you would be a great asset to what I am trying to accomplish, but of course, I want to ask you first, but just know, you are NOT obligated to say "yes" or anything! lol!

  • @EssenceOfTruth lol. I understand. I mean if it's just something little as spreading the word or helping with the site or helping with game reviews, interviews ect. I don't mind :)

  • @aprimic 5 minutes? Nah, I have too much to say to speak for 5 minutes. lol! Granted, in the early days, I use to do that, but they didn't get as much view either. The longer videos, did. But, I haven't been as frequent in posting as I use to and that's the reason why. But, I was never concerned about views. Never have, never will. If I can make just 10 people happy, that's all that matters.

  • @EssenceOfTruth You have to admit though, having the support you did in that Sims video was a nice feeling.

  • @aprimic I won't lie...it was! LOL! I really did enjoy it! But, it was the joy that I was not alone in loving a franchise like that was what I loved the most. I thought I was the only one. But, I wasn't! And it was great! But, that's all that mattered to me. I can honestly say that the views and such are not important to me. I was just glad that I could help people be more open about there love for something and that is what I doing with this network!

  • @EssenceOfTruth Hmm yeah, interaction with the audience of any size is nice, especially when it helps them out, whether that's through information or just entertainment. Anywho.. I'm off to sleep... It's 3:48am - Nice chat

  • @aprimic Heheh! Well, I appreciate your opinions and I wish more people would present them in a way that you did. Don't be a stranger, ya hear? And have a good night's sleep!

  • @aprimic Oh, and well, I explained why this has to target black women. There is NO one out there representing us and as I said in the video, its due to fear! Everyone else, who are non black, have representatives in games and in the industry. Black women do not. If we aren't views as sex objects in mangas and hentai, then we are used as comic reliefs and side kicks in games and cartoons and out of ALL the games in the world, I can only think of about 16 black women in games right now. It's sad!
