Great vid!! I was there on that day, he landed too high and too fast. As a result he burst all 8 tyres due to the heat from the breaks. BA had to send a team from LHR to replace the mainwheels before the charter the next day.
If concorde burst all its tyres how come there is no CAA incident report, plus the aircraft would not have taxi'd and the fire crew would have attended!!!! Just like when the BMIs A319 burst four tyres on landing back in January 2007....
@10pinbowling - I think what happened was that no tyres actually bust on landing, but with the massive heat generated by the braking making the brake packs red hot - the fuse plugs in all 8 tyres melted (as they're designed to do when the wheels get too hot to prevent tyre explosions) shortly after parking resulting in all tyres going flat and needing changing.
No good the pilot blaming the sun in his eyes.....for this late landing....if he had crashed, it would have been pilot era, not the runways fault that he landed so far down it!!
Yes, I can remember at the time as it went past thinking 'why am I pointing the camera up there when it should be down here? Having witnessed the TriStar go off at the 32 end we were all relieved to see it turn into the loop, albeit still at some speed!
Sorry, I haven't too much else to post; like Concorde, nothing lasts for ever!
Holy sh!t that was close! I'm surprised it got the speed off so quickly - the nosewheel didn't hit the ground til the intersection with 10/28. I bet those brakes were glowing a bit afterwards !
Any more vids other than the other few you've got up? They bring back memories from when I used to live up that way.
That big bird doesn't seems easy to land!
