@TheOtherLioyd See this really bugs me. There's plenty of great FPS games that have come out very recently. Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Tribes: Ascend, Battlefield 3, Portal 2 (though it's not really a shooter), Monday Night Combat and its sequel (it's third-person but the gameplay is very similar), and many others. None of these games are especially innovative (maybe Portal 2, though it doesn't really do anything new), but they're all great. A lot of INDIE GAMERS are confusing innovative w/ fun.
@Odin314 Point taken...somewhat. It just bugs the hell out of me how many supposed "fun" games like Wolfenstein, Bulletstorm, Duke Forever, and to a lesser extent Brink found themselves beaten down to the CoD/GoW mold for literally no reason at all. I don't want to suck my thumb behind cover while my hand is being held, I want to dual wield Gatling guns and mow down entire battalions by myself, goddammit!
@TheOtherLioyd It's essentially the same problem as record executives attempting to copy the success of the Beatles. If you copy the Beatles, you don't get the Beatles, you get the Monkees. CoD gets copied because it's popular. You see the same thing in MMOs with WoW.
However, just because we're seeing a lot of CoD shit in games these days, doesn't make stuff like RetroBlazer new or innovative. It's essentially Quake with a Megaman X-esque art direction. That doesn't mean it's /bad/, mind.
@TheOtherLioyd Suck your thumb behind cover... That is rich and a great way to put it. I myself prefer CoD style over classic Doom style (I hate not aiming up) but, I do like Turok and Doom 3 over anything new. So I can agree with that statement. I'm sick of chest high walls and regeneration. I want to dodge things and explore. DX
@TronPachioftheDynamo What especially worries me is that those "faux-oldschool" games might be sending a pretty scary message to both the industry and gamers at large -- that even when you're doing old-school, you STILL have to be cover-based and linear because "that's how it's done" or some shit.
I really hope you complete this game, us Doom fans need almost desperately this type of game. Surprised the indie scene is not very interested in this genre, considered that the Doom modding scene seems still very active.
@Cryomundus Yeah I really agree with room design, I think it'd be necessary to implement much more height variation and use enemies on platforms etc. With the sounds I recall the author stating that for a final version he'll replace all the sounds with his own.
this looks god damn fucking amazing, I'd pay 60$ for this, fun and fast paced, but bro you need some height variation, this looks very Wolfenstein inspired which had its time in history, you need more doom 1 and 2 influences, the colours used are also amazing man, keep up the good work, and also try avoid rectangular rooms
@Sipho44 personaly, I think the way the game is inspired by doom and wolfenstein, square rooms would be a great inside joke, but a few interesting level designs would not hurt=)
@legice This looks perfect to me for a game, I have never said this before but this could be as good as doom if the rooms had different shapes and interesting height variation full respect to the creator of this game.
@legice I dont want inside jokes i want a game to fucking play lol, Im going to buy this game no matter what just hope there is some variation in the levels
Constructive criticism for developers: You need more height variation, and try make scenarios that utilize height variation effectively, maybe you can also look at Doom 2's and Plutonia's layouts for inspiration? Otherwise, it's looking good. I love the art direction and I'll def buy this when it comes out.
This game is so fun!

@IamAlwaysRight What's innovative about this? I mean it looks cool and I like the way it plays but there's nothing really -new- here.

@Odin314 Anything that isn't a COD clone is innovative these days.

Anyone else notice the sounds came from the Megaman Zero series? Personally, I think it works well.
It's just that, if you do sell this, you might want to have some different sounds. Otherwise, you might land in some trouble.
Oh, yeah, do listen to the people about the room design, it's very important to vary it.
