I completely tore my acl and I have to get this done...I don't know whether to get a donor or use my own...and I also want to know if anyone has had this surgery adn been successful enough to not have had torn it again...I just want to know it's possible
i just tore my acl a couple days ago playing lacrosse. i know that someday i'll be able to return to lacrosse again (because the same thing happened to a teammate a couple years ago) but i'm worried i won't be as fast as before (i was always the fastest one on the team).
Hey, I wouldn't worry about it too much; you have got other things to focus on. I'm about 2 years now and it's all good, couldn't tell the difference. Your teammate must be doing alright since they are playing again; I suppose their game hasnt changed much? The rehab aint easy but if you stick with it then you will be better off. Just remember to follow the advice of the surgeon and the physio and good luck... Oh yeah, get a surgeon that you are confident and comfortable with.
Yep.... well the doctor is mainly there for the surgery and to check your progress at different intervals. The physio is the one that will push you and advise what you can and can't do.
They havent done the surgery or anything, but im really worried and i do loads of sports and i was wondering if there was any way i could continue to play with a tore acl and a partially torn meniscus?
6-7 months of hard work in rehab you should be ready to go 100 percent in sports just remember dont listen to anyone who says you cant come back 100 percent keep urself positive and you should be good the hardest thing isnt the surgery its the mental part train that while you rehab so it doesnt affect your play on the field or court or ice seriously anyways good luck.
really needed that!.. i am barely on my fourth week of therapy and its so said cus a read a lot of things about athletes not going back 100% to sports after an acl tear!!
dont try anything stupid straight line running if you jog or run purchase a good brace and you should perfectly fine now if your serious about sports like I am u 100 percent need the surgery and you have to do EVERYTHING they tell you to and you have to take rehab very serious dont slack either way you need a brace if you go back to competitive sports so make sure ur physic guy or doctor recommends one to you so after surgery
if you play sports alot your going to need surgery for sure not even if you buy a good knee brace will it hold your knee together properly I had a torn acl and partially torn meniscus with also some pcl damage did my surgery 9 months ago and im still having problems cutting and planting the knee my suggestion if you play sports with just friends at the park and it aint to serious get a good brace skip surgery and just take it easy
@asnarac yeah, i stayed on mine for a month before the surgery cuz i didnt believe i tore it, then i played a basketball game and the second i cut right, i felt the same pain as when i tore it and couldnt walk, because of the time it took me to man up and have it done, i had tibial and femoral bone bruising, which sucks twice as bad lo, i'll be out a month next wednesday lol
@melissahsargeant hey, I tore my acl playing rugby at semi pro level, i also do motorcoss and such foreth. i wasnt going to have the acl repair but m glad i did. before i had it running without an acl was ok sprinting no problem! slowing down and changing direction was the hard part just felt like it was going to go at anytime. i would recommend having the surgery just that its a long recovery period and can be quite frustrating keeping the weight of.
@melissahsargeant Yeah I ripped mine doing karate...and while I can train somewhat with it like that the reality is the knee can and likely will collapse again and there's a good chance you'll tear something else up. I'm not eager to have surgery either but in the long run i think you'd regret it if you didn't get it.
As a doc who had ACL surgery 4 months ago, I'm pretty worried about some of you who claim that you are back to full activity at 8 or 9 months. Remember that the graft takes about a year to fully strengthen and you are really at risk of tearing it again if you are not careful. I think you'd agree that you don't want to go through surgery again. Do your PT and plyometrics, get strong and let the graft get strong, you'll be better than ever. Even Tiger and Tom Brady took a year.
im i had ACL Reconstruction surgery, i got my 6 months clearance and the next day was doing all my drills in my teams first 2 a day. if you do all of your PT and plyos and arent retarded you'll be fine. I didnt have a single problem with me. The only problem i had was tearing scar tissue in my hammy
this is crap i tore my ACL 5 months ago and thay only just told me yesterday that they are going to operate, i am actually walking again it's just that if i have a little trip it turns into a painfull thing, SO another 4 to 6 months of this, GREAT! YAY Goddam public hospital system
i had the same problem. im now 6months post op. and i had to wait 3-4 months after the injury before they knew it was an ACL tear. the first doctor i visited 1 day after the injury said it was just a strain......
yea i ruptured mine aswell 3 years ago. didn't get it diagnosed properly for 2 weeks after the time it happened. i think the problems was that i went 2 a doc on the day nd it was way 2 swollen to tell ne thing nd just said it was a strain as well then i didn't go 2 ne one 2 check it out for the 2 weeks! i think i should've gone 2 a physiotherapist/doctor a couple of days after and hav it looked at coz i now know they can do that 'anterior drawer test' 2 diagnose it :)
same i did my injury a year ago went to my doctors hu sed it was a strain kept goin back n then finlly 11 month after injury they found it was ruptured cartildiges and ruptured acl, n i am now 3 week post op
tore my acl and a week later i was out of surgery...quick action...its now about a month after the acl tear and meniscus damage...3 weeks after acl reconstruction and trimming of meniscus and im walking almost fine...riding a bike, 130 degree bend, power walking on treadmill...going to start running soon got 3 more weeks of rehab then i can start jogging/running...not going to play any sports though dont want to fuck it up again
i had my acl reconstruction with the hamstring graft aswel, mine was not long ago on the 15th march and i was walkin around the house fine without crutches 4 days later, the physio says i seem to have taken amazingly well to the op, but after a while my hamstring does get proper sore, and tight, but this looks good for 4 months post op, sadly i got cup final to be played at MK Dons stadium in 2 months and will miss out :( x
I have had reconstruction on the ACL too also with the hamstring graft. Well I can tell you... do exercises for you hamstring because I didn't and even now 2 years after I still get cramps when I use them. yes after 1 move ;) .
Whoa! i wish i could run like that at four months! its been 4 weeks since i had my a.c.l reconstruction, and im eager to get back on track :) congrats
Dam wish i can move like that in four month i had surgery 2 weeks ago, can wait sow i can start cardio work out i gain 20 lbs and lost a lot off muscle on my damage leg.
I got my surgery 2 weeks ago aswell =P torn acl and meniscus first rehab is on tuesday im not sure what to expect. I also lost alot of muscle on both my leg and upper body from lack of excercise. So yea =)
im 4 months post op, acl reconstruction mensc damage also. my doctor says shouldnt be running till 9months? surely this overkill as it feels good enough to start basic cardio-v work aswell as lateral stuff like your doing in ur vid wat u recon?
WTF shouldn't be running till 9 months??? I started jogging at around 4 months and was back playing at 8 months. Mind you I did do a lot of physio and rehab work when I could. I would see what your physio reckons or even get a second opinion but don't take my word on it as I am not a doctor and am not qualified to say if it will be ok or not but it's just what I went through.
cheers mate ive been thru basic physio for the past 4 months and i have been signed off nhs physio so just doing my own stuff now building quads & hamstring strength. i think my doctor is a nut job haha.
I am 5 months out of hamstring ACL reconstruction surgery and played 3 full court games of basketball today, and I didnt suck. Good luck with your recovery, its a slow ass process, but stick to the rehab and you will be back to normal in a few more months.
My knee did not have a brace after surgery. Some surgeons don't brace the knee but I suppose it all depends on the injury. I had my first scrimmage on the same court that I tore my knee and that was around 7 months. I had my first full game at 8 months which was exactly 1 year to the date of when I injured my knee. Let me tell you that I was very cautious when I was playing on that day. Well I hope your return goes well.
I'm at 5 months after surgery, and also can run a bit. Rehab is really important, there will be days when u don't feel like doin' anything, but got to keep it up. Nice job.

I wouldn't do it and you would probably end up doing more damage. Just find a surgeon your confident with and a physio who knows what there on about.
