The officer should be judged on department policy. If the action was allowed, the officer was innocent. If it was forbidden then the officer is responsible. If it was allowed then the policy itself should be scrutinized by the department and the public. Sometimes you can have the right policies in most cases but in the wrong circumstance no policy is adequate.

The officer should be judged on department policy. If the action was allowed, the officer was innocent. If it was forbidden then the officer is responsible. If it was allowed then the policy itself should be scrutinized by the department and the public. Sometimes you can have the right policies in most cases but in the wrong circumstance no policy is adequate.

They want him to resign for shooting the tires out on a fleeing vehicle? Why? That was a reasonable, proportional, and justified response that likely would have made the chase short if the idiot didn't ended it so quickly himself. You can't the officer for the guy running and the guy running is the major contributing factor in the accident.

Because he doesn't kill the people till later. And yes the bad guy is at fault. But the cop made it worse. My opinion.

I think the cop is in the wrong... the truck was traveling in the other direction than him, I think that he was in no life or death situation. It is important to understand that police have no more right to use a gun than you or I. Any time a cop uses his gun, if I were in that position I should also be able to use it. NOT to say he is a bad cop or should lose his job. Also I hate when people want to blame the car wreck on the cop for shooting the tires. it's the bad guys fault for running
