He'd still be ranked at the top of the middleweight division regardless of the trash talk. His trash talk didn't get him a fight with Anderson Silva, it merely got him hype going into the fight. And if you ever watched the guy fight you'd see he's durable and tough as they come. They don't give him credit as such because he comes across like some suburban pussy.

This isnt the UFC video game where you add points to the submission defense bar and therefore become harder to tap, its not that simple. In that split second where somebody begins to slap a submission on you, your mind in its exhausted state has two options: get caught or take steps to escape. Chael was getting caught.
