  • Excellent Video !!!!!

  • If there is a dog heaven, this dog has certainly earned it! if only to giving smiles to so many people ... :-) God bless Luke !

  • Maravilloso video...

  • really nice...

  • great tribute, love Luke & this video, thank you! :)

  • There is another goog clip on YT which features this dog and Petey from the Our Gang comedies...it's set to Allan Jackson's "Remember When"...as in remember when these dogs where no banned anywhere but were recognized for their intelligence, devotion and love.

  • my pitbull just passed away before christmas ......miss him so much , this video brings tears to my eyes .....thank you

  • Great montage of Luke....also Petey is a pit bull terrier. This cruel myth about these wonderful beings is so unjust. Music is so appropriate..

  • i love it too why because I am a pitbull owner in Toronto Canada they are banned since Dec 2004 he has born in August 4 months b4 the banned every love him he is soo kind live with 4 cats, and kids i say to people read the history of the pitbull i learn everything back to 1907 it was the pitbull who was the police dog and even the fire station dog read your history

  • Luke had some of the handsomest collars!

  • Hi PitPurgatory. I try to only represent the facts about the bully breeds. About 1 out of 3,000 is aggressive. It is true that when they attack they do more damage. Those that are aggressive, when you read the stories, are living on a chain, or left alone with a small child. That's because of people who own them BECAUSE of their reputation. In the 1960s, shepherds were the dog of choice for irresponsible owners, and they were the most aggressive. Today it's the pit bull.

    I

  • awesome!

  • Pit Bulls around the world thank you for reminding folks what we are really like. Wonderful, loving pets.

  • @dogrepair

Why are people exemplifying the few good show dogs and ignoring the hundreds of others that have killed and mauled many people in the past decade? One good dog should never discount the lethal actions of the others.

  • Are his ears cropped? They look so natural, unlike most today, if so.

  • @ThePickledTheif i'm wondering the same thing. If that was a crop job its a great one.

  • Love it! We have four and know how great they are!

  • Love it. But what the heck they docked his tail!!! Anyway, thanks for spreading the word about a famous American Pit Bull Terrier. Keep spreading the good PR for a misunderstood breed.

  • Another fine example of the breed <3

  • Before the Media demonized the Pit, Thank you!

  • thanks!

  • how do u get so many comments on ur videos?! none of my vids hav comments and they all have like 70 veiws!!!

  • Beautiful. Reminds me of my dog Indi.

  • thii is real pitbull

  • If you search the ordinary graves at Find a Grave for last name, "The dog", first name "Luke", you can find his memorial.

  • damn i bet he was as famous as Lassy hehe

  • Great clips! What a wonderful dog.

  • That's great! And I do like the smaller compact size of this dog.

  • Such a clever & adorable doggy :)

  • pit bulls are so wrongly accused!

  • cute!!!

  • OMG, this is awesome :)

  • Check out the size of that pit. That is the size they should be.

  • pitbulls are the greatest dogs on earth!!!! god help them all get back the respect and love they so deserve

  • BEST FRIEND INDEED!!

  • can i send this to a friend of mine?

  • aww... Wouldn't it be great if they made this show again? APBTs could regain their former status of desired family pets.

  • Do you know where I could get some really good photos of Luke. I am doing an article on him and would love to show him doin' his stiff, cause he is an AMAZING Bully

  • i have a pitbul 8 months old,.. also ear crafted,.. but i am here in philippines,.. a very good dog,.. can even ride a motorcycle,.. 1,000 dollars only

  • i luv this dog

  • Hats off to Luke the Dog! Excellent video and I like tghe way Luke helps grind the pepper in the butcher shop. Top-Notch!!

  • Thanks for commenting!

  • Does anyone know what is the name of the movie where luke is standing on a pole and barking as his master is fishing on the beach? Thanks

  • I'm pretty sure that was from Coney Island (1917). It's part of a DVD set called The Best Arbuckle/Keaton Collection. You can get it on Amazon, or I think it's on Netflix also. Thanks for watching!

  • @ReelDogs That scene is from "The Cook" an Arbuckle movie which had been lost for years. It was found in the basement of an Amsterdam museum seveal years ago and has been restored. I hope to have it up on YT in several months. Check out my channel for "The Hayseed" which Luke definitely "stars" in. I believe The Cook may have been Buster Keaton's first movie.

  • @preservationhall01 Actually "The Butcher Boy," done for Arbuckle's Comique unit, was Buster Keaton's first film. But "The Cook" sure is wonderful, isn't it? I love Luke's final entrance, plunging through the ceiling right onto the middle of the dining room table. Keaton used Luke in one of his own shorts, "The Scarecrow" -- he mistakes him for a mad dog, but learns better. They shake on it, agree to be friends and Luke runs off for more adventures. That dog was pure adrenaline and love.

  • @CornersFive I have a little pit that looks just like Luke-short tail, coloring and all-that's how my interest in "Luke" movies started. They are the sweetest, most loving, loyal, sympathetic companion a human could ever want. A few scumbags have taught them to fight and terriers do so because they are so eager to please their owners-and the whole breed gets a bad rap. What political stupidity.

  • @preservationhall01 It sounds like you've got a wonderful dog there .... and he's got you! The only pit I know is a perfect love,

  • Luke is the man

  • You can tell it's from the early 1900's. The actor for one, and the fact that you can tell it's a silent film.

Pits today still look like this when they come from good, reputable breeders. Breed standard says max weight is only 55 lbs. So those byb's and puppymills and fighting rings that are churning out huge pits are not bettering the breed or health.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to know this...just some reading.

  • Lovemy labs, which breed standard are you referring to? The UKC states 35-60 for males :Dogs over these weights are not to be penalized unless they are disproportionately massive or rangy. The ADBA states; Height to weight ratio - the tallest dog at a given weight . In other words, the dog's weight isn't as critical as how well its proportions are. A correct large dog will beat a faulted smaller dog, all things considered. Ideally should be athletic and stable in body &mind, whichever weight.

  • thanks for knowing your dogs every one should

  • A large structurally correct dog will always beat a small structurally incorrect dog, regardless of breed. I think a lot of people like a certain size/color/lineage/etc and don't look beyond their bias. Even old time fighting dogmen have said "A good big dog will always beat a good small dog", so they didn't breed for size over function, either. Many gamebred old time dogs topped 60# at chainweight.

  • not true. dogmen of old didnt breed for conformation. they bred for performance and performance only. there are plenty of old APBTs out of the structural standard that were aces in the pit. and a bigger well structured dog will not always beat a smaller incorrect structured dog, the bigger dog could be a flat out lazy pussy and the smaller dog could be as game as they come.

  • pit bulls are just great!!

  • you know its not the pitbull's fault that they turned out like this..they were breed to be in pits etc

learn the breed's history! i like these dogs!

  • Soo cute! I love little pit bulls...this is the size they should be. Just perfect!

  • BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE (FOR PIT BULL) .

  • My Amstaff is more of the athletic breeds from this era. I have photos of my father with one in the 30s.

The modern day "Pit" is no longer the terrier it once was as breed has been cross bred to be something it is not.

Luke may have wegihed 45 lbs max and would be a perfect companion dog.

  • there are still apbts that come directly from the dogs of old and they are still terriers. go to an ADBA show and you will see what im talking about. they may not be the norm anymore but they are still out there.

  • I enjoy these type of dog confirmations. The breeder I know has no greater love than for his dogs. He lost two this year to old age. Mine will be 13 on July 7.

The sad thing is the APBT, Amstaff, Staffy bull and Bull terrier all get lumped into the category of "MAN EATING PIT BULLS". WTF?

I don't like ill bred gangster dogs that have nothing to do with the 4 breeds I listed nor do I like people that walk them around as an extension of their short dicks. For what?!!

    Can we agree on that?

  • such an amazing breed n-n

  • just because its in black and white doesnt mean its from the as you say old days

  • lesbo

  • very good! w i pitbull!!!

  • soooooooooo cute!

  • Cool!

  • i knew that the little rascals' pooch was a pitbull, but this is my first encounter with luke. i really enjoyed watching him. thanks.

  • love the old movie with the pitty..awsome

  • awesome video, many don't know but pit bull terriers are amazing diggers and highly agile, climbing up a ladder is no simple feat for a dog

  • Thanks for this.

America`s dog will survive and come back in favor with many more good owners.

    The dogs haven`t changed,society has.

Society always has to hate something and unfortunately these dogs are the target of that hatred at this time.

  • Is this the earliest footage of a Pit Bull Terrier ?

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I'd only seen Luke in stills. What a character and so typical for the breed!

  • didn't know about this one - very cool - thanks for posting! : )

  • In all your video fit the music and scenes so perfectly together, this is terrific

This film is also so fun

  • i wish pit bulls were a favorite dog in the eyes of the public now..

  • What a great video! I didn't even know about Luke. What a talented pup! A shining example of what a great dog our Pit Bulls are! Thanks!

  • Thank you! I'm glad Luke gained a new fan from it:)

  • That's AWESOME!! Thanks for posting!

  • Thanks for watching:)

  • ol' skool shit

  • nice video

    --

    Sent from my Helio Ocean

  • Nice video! It's great to see someone remembering Luke like this - he was a star performer of the silent era who is too often overlooked.

  • GREAT vid! I want to make a movie based on my pit bull..XD

  • Thanks for this great vid! I have most of the movies that Luke/Fatty/Buster/Mabel Normand appeared in such as The Cook, Hayseed,Butcher Boy, Scarecrow, Fatty's Plucky Pup etc. but what movies clips are shown at .31, .42, and 2.32?-I'd like to get those films. Not many people know that Luke was "Owned" by Minta Durfee, Fatty Arbuckle's wife. Luke was the best natural actor of all the silent film stars.

  • Great tribute! Thank you. I live in Silver Lake CA where most of these movies were made. There are still many many beautiful pitbulls in the area who should be movie stars. My pit Butchie is an excellent actress and model.

  • i have a pit she is the sweetest thing. but before i had her she was used as a baiter in dog fights...because of this she is terrified of other dogs, and some people. i dont understand why someone would do this.

  • I just wanted to let you know that I just wrote a paper about breed specific legislation and I included a link to your video at the end of my paper- I think it really speaks volumes about what a bad rap the pit bull has gotten!! Thanks- the first time I was in college I was a film major so this was extra special!!!

  • Thank you! I hope that one day, just as dogs like Luke and Pete the Pup fell out of favor, they will eventually fall back in.

  • i wonder why they don't use more dogs like luke becuse he's a pitbull it's to bad people get the wrong impreshion about them they are good dogs just like this video.

  • Luke is the greatest silent film animal no question.

  • good video put pitbulls don't look right when they have there tall docked it's better whan it's nature.maybe on ,boxers ,cane corso, dobermens, rottiwilar, borboles, but not pitbulls

  • AWESOME!!!! Love history ^ APBTs!

Thanks for the archivial phenomenal LUKE!

  • This was so great! Too bad all aren't adored like this..any dog for that matter!

  • Thank you for contributing to the fight against the ignorant prejudice against the American Pit Bull Terrier, a great breed that a century ago was considered the ideal family dog.

In our time, bigotry on account of sex, race, color, or creed has become unacceptable among thinking adults. We are only beginning to fight bigotry against this great breed, which the press has inflamed by ONLY covering dog bite or attack stories involving pits. May the truth prevail!

  • @sergeiparajanov The fight had only just begun when the flaming US military dealt the breed a devastating blow. They have banned ALL Pit Bulls and Put Bull types from their bases. Countless family pets have been killed because of this. They have clearly never heard of Sergeant Stubby. You are right about the press. They are nothing, but a bunch of ignoramuses. This bigotry HAS to END!!

  • thank you for this wonderful video! Too bad, if Luke were in Denver, he'd be killed just b/c he was born with the wrong look :(

  • What a GREAT Video! Just posted this to my Faves. I Luv Fatty & Pit Bulls! :)

  • What a GREAT video! Thanks for putting it out here for the world to see. These really are AWESOME dogs! :-)

  • Wow! Thanks!

  • Very interesting footage--thanks--

  • Thanks 4 sharing.

  • Thanks for sharing this....I enjoyed seeing all Luke (he'd be proud).... great editing!

  • Both the Pit Bull and Fatty ended up being unfairly treated like criminals.

Fatty lost his career because of rumors that were never proved.

The Pit Bull also lost his life because of rumor, hatred and ignorance.

Video speaks volumes about the "truth."

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Hi Cindy - I know what happened to Fatty, but what about the dog?

I was reading Fatty Arbuckle's story, and it was a tragedy indeed. Really ramps up my anger at "the media".

  • dane,

    I didn't mean Fatty's dog in particular.

I meant the Bad Rap Pit Bulls get.

    :)

  • Oh - okay - relief!

  • It's funny, but I've seen records of this breed as the US national dog. It was sometimes called the American bull terrier.

However, the sad fact is too many people have bred this dogs for fighting, and there are several lines of these dogs that are too reactive for the casual owner. However, they are in the minority of the breed.

Most pit bulls that I have met are more like boxers in temperament-- or between a Jack Russell and a boxer in temperament.
