  • Something I always loved in this one (depite the gameplay) is that in the interior view you could see the front of the car, designers dont consider that detail important nowadays, I dont know why.

  • @MaNiAcBALL

I agree with you however the NFS Shift and Shift 2 has gorgeous looking dashboards this time.

  • este juego pertenese ala play station 1 o es de pc?????

  • I remember dropping bills to make graphics flow like silk... sort of. At least fir back then. Windows 3.1 and 2000 were my fondest memories by the way. Pentium? What's a pentium lol

  • this IS way better than all of that shift and most wanted crap!

  • @081588101 u are to get slapped for saying somethin as silly as that

  • @liljoe470 aha

  • NFS games of yesterday: revolutions in the PC game industry, each in their own right

NFS games of today: mediocre boring car games that are far from being the pioneers in the racing category

  • The Diablo was always a nasty opponent! Compare it to the todays NFS....... NOS, tuning with bitches on the starting lines...... dude....

  • oh god i remember when i was 10~12 years old...

TNFS, NFS 2, NFS 3 HP, NFS 4 HIGH STAKES THE BEST!!

    miss my PSX!!!! good times

  • The original 3DO version was released on 31 August 1994, PC 1995 (DOS), TNFS:SE PC 1996 (Win95/DOS).

  • car battle in nfs undercover??LOL

  • Hi, I am a TNFS:SE die hard enthusiast (Turboman007 for the few, who know) and I love any mention of TNFS:SE anywhere. But PLEASE keep the keywords related to TNFS:SE only. I cannot stand stuff like carbon, underground etc. near this absolute classic. For me, TNFS/TNFS:SE were THE best, then NFS:PU, and NFSII, NFSIII:HP, and NFSIV:HS were OK or better. But starting with NFSVI:HP2, things started to go downhill uncontrollably. Anyway, if anyone knows how to get TNFS:SE running at higher res...

  • this is the heart of nfs ..

im glad that this year they got back to origins cool cars cool places cool pursuits!

  • Still my favorite NFS!

  • Best NFS Ever!!!!

  • Logitech Driving Force Pro works on Win 98?

  • @armorgeddon

Yes, Logitech didn't bother to mention that some of their PS2 steering wheels were PC compatible. Their old Logitech DFP had drivers for Win 98 to XP.

  • @superallye: I did know about XP drivers, but that there are 98 drivers is great for games like this. Will try to get a DFP now. Thanks!

  • @armorgeddon

You're welcome dude. The DFP is priced lower now. If you can, it's best to get a brand new unit. Also feel free to post a vid of your gameplay if you want...I'd like to see it ;)

  • I built an old school computer just to play all the old NFS and TD games, always my favs.Great vid.

  • @TheDman216

Awesome Man! Respect for the classicc B)

  • Back when Need For Speed was actually good.

  • afs joguinho de play 1

    kkkkk

  • I think the second NFS was much better.

  • @MrRaphaelLippi

It was in a framerate sense. In NFS2 you were really zooming fast. The only thing I don't like about 2 is the street themed loop tracks as opposed to point to point roads. If they're making loop tracks, they should have at least made it look like a racing circuit., not street themed with civilian traffic going in circles...doesn't make sense.

  • @superallye doesn't make sense?

NFS 2 has exotic and cool places, and are a lot of fun to play, doesn't mean if it is realistic or not, the hollywood tracks was the best.

    Loop?

  • @MrRaphaelLippi

I meant by not making sense is racing on a closed track with civilian traffic & houses, that's not something you see in real life. I know that's not realistic but at least just make it look like fictional racing circuits with rumble strips & such and no houses or civilian traffic.

  • love the decel sound on the viper.... nice deep whooshing noise...ahhhh classic

  • Awesome game, legendary. This started the genre. I'd agree that the series has been a bit hit and miss, but I loved porsche unleashed, most wanted, and now I'm playing shift. NFS Shift is bloody awesome too. This really highlighted how good pc gaming could be.

  • the lambo does 202mph while the viper does 160mph in this game, the viper can hold its own up to about 145mph then the lambo will start to pull away. i havent played this game in forever but i still know a bit about it.

  • Any one knows how to play online ?

  • @superallye wanna play online with me but you have to guide me through this i never played online with nfs 1 se hehe :)

  • What a game! This is why I hate the new NFS GAMES! The new ones after High Stakes & Porsche Unleashed forgot what the game was supposed to be about!!

  • I've always been amused by the Viper's shifter sound in NFSSE. Every other car makes a nice *click* or *snick-snick* sound going from gear to gear.

    But the Viper goes *CLONK!*

  • @andxx0r

    Good observation dude

  • Comment removed

  • Supra was the best car in this one. Not top speed but best control so you could make up for it.

  • is this 1352 or what

  • It's 1996 actually

  • @superallye owned

  • thats me overexaggerating ok so just chill

  • WTF? I was just answering your question

  • 0:36 woohoo flying car!

  • my classic fav game :D

  • my favorit game i remember i drive with love supra and 911

  • @boberro

Yeah, Supra has the prettiest dashboard of the pack

  • My favourite car was the Ferrari 512TR,i just loved

    how it sounded.

  • @Veggiebanger

I agree dude. I love the sound of that car too. It sounds like an overpowered rage. :) Sounds intense too when you're dueling with another car & both engines shout at each other B)

  • Did you know that only in the SE version, every car had its own engine sound, some weeks ago i downloaded the normal version and every car sounded the same.

  • its games like this that started this whole damn genre. this game is a classic.

  • blahblahblah

  • This game is 10x better than all the need for speed fast and furious wanabee shit released nowadays.

  • im not saying that the gameplay isnt great im just saying that the graphics are really sucky compared to most wanted or something like that

    ok?

  • You said the game was "EPIC FAIL" because of the graphics. I was just correcting you that it is'nt.

  • Hi! I sent you a message, but I think you missed it.

I searched NFS root directory for the setup file, but I only found a "nfs.cfg". Inside this file there is only this: "YESSOUND VIDEO ENGLISH NOREMOTE ".

    I found a "joystick.cfg" file in root\gamedata\config, but I don't know how to edit it. Inside it there are only codes: " ÿ ÿÿ F F ÿ? ÿ¿ þ ÿ € þ ÿ € F ´ÿÿÿ¸ÿÿÿ ¸ÿÿÿ"

How can I edit the correct file?

    Thanks!

  • I have NFSSE installed and a Logitech DFP, but the pedals simply don't work, though the game does recognizes them.

How did you set the accelerate and brake pedals to work?

  • @HighlanderBH

There was a setup file in the NFS root directory. That's where you should configure the controllers. Had the same problem as yours too and that's how I fixed it.

  • i remember this game..i used to drive the viper all the time...but i would always get my ass kicked by my cousin's lambo...but i did get one win out of like 1 million..lol..

  • You can actually win with any car you compete with even if it's the Lambo. The AI cars actually have certain weaknesses in certain parts of any tracks

  • is this alpine? it reminds me of this.... well it's been some 12 years. LOL. i remember the lambo was the only car to reach 202 mph... memories.

  • Alpine it is. We never get these beautiful point to point tracks in any racing game anymore.

  • I think the closest thing to that is Test drive unlimited

  • yes,but the cops are stupid in tdu and the roadblock`s totally suck cuz u cant get trough them!

  • Yeah but I usually play online mode, so theres no police there

  • i love this game i used to play this everyday lol

  • If you notice, this has a very high speed feel. Vastness and Highway Traffic, something completly lost in todays High quality uber graphics sims like NFS shift,Forza, and GT.

Yes i understand this is more of an Arcade Racer but i do miss the Vast highway drive landscapes like here and the early NFS's.

Dont get me wrong i love circuits, but no-ones re-creating the great scenic roads around the world. those that we see in TopGear.

  • I agree with you. Point to point tracks with scenery is the best thing compared to loop tracks. Loop tracks that are street themed with civilian traffic & scenery (as opposed to closed racing circut tracks) are the worst. These first appeared on NFS2 & was quite dissappointed when I first played it.

Looking at your ur, you must have played TD2 If you remember they really have long point tracks with charming sceneries from Europe & the US even if the graphics was archaic.

  • wow, this has a cockpit view, kinda sad to see racing games nowadays without cockpit views

  • @yellowsunset Good observation

  • @yellowsunset good observation

  • @yellowsunset Try Midnight Club LA ;) Test Drive Series too :)

  • co to za nfs

  • reminds me of road rash

  • It's from the same era...same graphics and I won't be suprised if it's a variant of the same game engine.

  • The Diablo is a beast, especially black. I agree, these point to point tracks were awesome, too bad newest games don't have these tracks anymore. COastal, Alpine and City feels a lot like TD2, indeed.

Never forget when I bought my NFS copy in january 96, runing 320x200 on dad's old 486dx4120! I Bought the NFS SE around mid 1997, when I already got my own Pentium 166. :)

  • The best NFS game ever!!

  • 8bit

  • that isn't 8 bit. That's 32 Bit Power

  • lol the model of the normal street cars are better than the ones in fucking NFS Carbon rofl wat a sick game right here

  • AWSOME!!!!!!!

  • Holy cow, dude! I so remember this game! And the air you could get off the hills... Especially on Transtropolis! Tha hills on that one are INSANE!!! *quietly* i'm having such a nostalgia moment :') I wonder if it'll work in Vista? Probably not without DOSBox or something. lol

Thank you sooo much for this jaunt back through time to our prepubescent years! I'm gonna try it again when I get home! :D

  • Oh, and the music in that game was AWESOME! (I know I use that word alot... I think it just fits for this game :)) Didn't like it much when they started going heavier into electronic & rap... though that's just personal preference speaking.

  • No probs dude. Although if you can avoid any emulator, it be best to be played in your native OS. An emulator makes everything a little choppy even if you have a powerful PC.

  • Oh, but I don't have any computers that have DOS anymore! *sob* lol I had DOSBox a while ago... dunno what happened to it.

  • thats so nostalgic... *tears*

  • that guy was just so annoying.. "so you wanna step up and play with the big boys do you".. just made me wanna twat him hahaha.

remember it coming out on the 3do tho, 1st time you could actually recognise cars, and the traffic too, honda preludes and stuff driving round, wondered just how anything could ever get any better, but then again said the same thing when GT1 came out for the PS1

  • NFS was good on 2 machines, 3DO, at which time i thought were like real life graphics haha, i just remember the leap from snes/mega drive to 3DO being imense. And NFS for the PC.. mm in 640x480... those were the days!

  • NFS for the 3DO was teh classic...who'd forget that annoying X-Man lol

  • nice game but the tic tic is annoying

  • the best nfs ever! ^^

    5/5

  • a had this game on PS about 10 years ago

  • very good

  • I have a win98 box dedicated for this game. i only play tnfsse, nfs2se and porsche unleashed the most. allthough i love the graphics in nfs 3 hp. hey its fun nostalgia :)

  • Ur 39 dude, have respect for games of our generation lol.

  • This video brings bck so many memories. I've owned every single NFS to date, from this one to Undercover. Man I wish they would go back to just exotics and racing with cops, nothing else.

  • they will go back to the root.

  • No we gutz to have ur spunnin wheeulz and ur pretty laites and shit all bro mothafucka! that's what need for speedz all about bitoch! you dont know nuthin about need for speed to the max yo!!

    :P

  • Memories :)

first game i ever played on PC

  • superallye your to noob comparing to my driving skills

  • Das cool but I want ur pussy!!!

  • whats wrong with undercover.. and YEAHHH i miss them old days point to point.. i still got NSF 1 but i aint seen this SE with the cop radar.. me and my friend used to play head to head and it waz gud we would always catch each other.. or u go to head to head hold l1 r1.. for No Mercy mode.. my friend didn't stand a chance :P

  • I would say that I prefer playing this than undercover...

  • Race the Diablo driving with the Supra. You gotta drive almost flawless to win but it is satisifying when you win the race.

The Viper was a fun car to drive aswell on the circuit courses against a pack of Diablos and Ferraris of course. I wish I had this game still, can't find it. boo.

  • NFSSE is on ebay most of the time.

  • lol at the prick at 1:38

  • for an old game, it ain't so bad. even maybe very good. thx for the vid

  • its nfs III hot pursuit ?

  • I think the title of the vid gives it

  • Oh shit the graphics sucked back then

  • but..but... dude the gameplay is teh win. You gotta try it.

  • That's some good Viper-driving. The Diablo is hard to beat in head to head.

  • Thanks Man. =) Actually the PC version is easy...even with a RX7 you can beat the Diable, I was just prolonging & dramatizing this for the vid. However the PSX version is where the beef is, AI is very tough at best on the console.

  • The PSX version is too hard. This was my biggest disappointment with NFS1 PSX. Al is too hard to beat, can hardly see traffic within a few metres and it is impossible to beat tournament mode.

  • noob... 3do version rules!!!

  • @DiabloVT60: I wouldn't say the graphics are DX2 based, because the same game can be played in pure DOS with the same resolution.

Apart from that I have to agree, TNFS SE PC is the best version available.

  • TNFS RLZ :)

    I have on PSX :D

    Peace

  • Agreed. TNFS for PSX is actually better than the PC (shown on my vid) because it has cockpit physics...your view even sways from side to side as you turn unlike the PC version whose in-car dash view is just static.

  • Comment removed

  • If you haven't played the 3DO version, you'll be in for an tensing drive. There's X-Man, your cold hearted opponent with an attitude. Better beat him or you'll get ego boosting insults from his FMVs, lol.

  • I think old games dont work on Vista. But I have to say that the Vista is a real bad computer. Its so slow.

  • I`ve got vista (32bit) and on my computer works evry old game that I`ve got!!

  • Me too, but on my Vista old games dont work. I tried with Worms Armageddon.

  • tried compatibility mode?

  • Compability mode?

    Whats that?

  • right mouse click the Icon -> properties-> tab Compatibility -> check Use Compatibility Mode -> select XP SP2 or whatever OD

  • *EDIT:

    whatever OS (not OD)

  • a Vista isnt a computer ..lol

its an OS, and a good one when u got a multicore processor and 2GB/4GB Ram its faster than uve ever seen

  • That was wat I meant!

but the vista is real bad.

even if i said it already..

    the vista is real bad.

  • Great game - because it kept things simple (I suppose it had to, given it is so old).

I was never good at this game, though. :(

But it's easily one of the most enjoyable games I had.

  • comments are right, nfs series in pre fast&furous times where much better - you can take nfs 1 2 and 3 for good examples.

Nice cars, cops, simulation instead of arcade and nice landscapes - thats the spirit of NFS - not that tuning and drifting crap

  • This is the best of the NFS games.

EA look at this and look what you'd done with the NFS series!

  • awesome race man, a wheel really is the only way to play TNFS

  • thx dude. I couldn't agree more. Analog FTW!

  • the only problem with nfs games is that theyre to easy except the older ones.

  • Classic favorite game. I haven't played that in so long.

  • lol

  • Sup gimme some pr0n dude!

  • lol

  • now thats high definition gameplay!. here are the system requirments!

TOP-500-level multicore Supercomputer with a CPU clock of at least 500 Ghz (Recommended: IBM Roadrunner at 1.026 PetaFLOPS)

    1,048,576 GB of RAM

A video Graphics Adapter from outer space, or from the distant future (Star Wars galaxy would NOT do)

50 GB of free hard disk space before the installation and 50 Tb after

    Industry-grade continental-level backbone internet connection. (Recommended: OC-768 / STM-256x).

  • Damn lol. Sorry to have you type all the shit! XD

  • that was a joke! there is no such thing as a petaflop!

    the actual requirments are

Windows 95 or MS-DOS 5.0 or higher, Pentium 75 MHz processor, MS-DOS: 8 MB RAM, Windows 95: 12 MB RAM, MPC2 compliant double-speed CD-ROM drive (300 KB/sec transfer rate and =400 ms seek time), Windows 95: DirectX compatible video drivers, PCI SVGA video card capable of 640x480 with 256 colors

    haha!

  • holy fuck...

  • it needs 12 mb of ram?

Heroes of might and magic III needs 12 mb of ram too :O

  • one of the best racing game ever... :)

    truly classic.

you can't find a game that gives u such exhilaration like this game does...

  • it looks like you lost youre controle on purpose when you drove in the ending

  • then you obviously haven't played this game yet

  • when u lost control,

    it was the finish line?

  • yes

  • Awesome! :)

  • Old school need for speed game.

  • is this for snes ot ps1?

  • That's for PC. There's no NFS for the Super Nintendo. This game was released for PC, Playstation, Saturn & 3DO.

  • Wow I'm a new breed racer if you will (only 12 yrs old) its amazing how far racing games have come my first racing game was NFS Hot Pursuit well gr8 vid

  • OMG!

  • yeah i loved that game. on my old 486. We played it all the time. Then i played it on playstation and it was almost as good.

  • wow, the interiors look awesome... I would never forget those

  • this is the best NFS of the whole series, they should be making the new ones like this one.

  • So true! I love this one! All the other ones are to ARCADE.

  • Snap that Safari van at 1:35 almost got ya!

And I remember when I played this at about 10 years old and I thought the graphics were GREAT.

  • that game is so sick i wish it could roll on my pc but i have xp :(

  • Use DosBox :D

  • DOSBox FTW!

  • Ah my all time NFS favourite was Need For Speed: Porsche...played NFS1 one time only.
