  • That satchel-mouthed woman behind Mendes acts as though this was the biggest surprise since the Virgin Birth.

  • deserved

  • The movie is an amazing work of art.

  • Michael Mann MUST win an Oscar one day. The greatest living American director.

  • The last good film M. Night made.

  • The one bad part for Sam Mendes is that since this was his feature film debut, there was nowhere to go but down. Not that his other films haven't been good, but not critically acclaimed like American Beauty was.

  • Are you planning to upload Alan Ball winning Best Original Screenplay?

  • American Beauty deserved the best picture. As well as Sam Mendes for best director

  • Spike Jonze should have won.

  • I didn't like the film, didn't enjoy anything about it. The Sixth Sense deserved the Oscar for best picture and best director, in my opinion

  • spike jonze?!!! aint he in jackass!!!

  • @ahceda09 he is the executive producer of jackass. he is an awesome director too.

  • kubrick not even nominated...

  • @dimitreis haha yeah kind of a rob, yet Eyes Wide Shut was probably his weakest film.

  • @Troboughbo I dont think Eyes Wide Shut is his weakest...I love that film, I think Sam Mendes deserved the oscar though.

  • Omg... M Night Shyamalan wearing a TURTLENECK on oscar night? I dont give a damn if it was 1999...thats unacceptable.

  • 0:58 - that girl behind Sam seems pretty happy. lol

  • P.S. The Sixth Sense is my favourite movie♥

  • I think that M.Night Shyalaman deserved to win this Oscar, but American Beauty deserved the Oscar for the best film =)

  • @carmen260495 No Spike Jonze did.

  • from the hit list to the shit list, wtf happened to Shyamalan? lol

  • Best debut ever?

  • he's honored to be in the company of M. Night Shyamaladingdong??

  • he's honored to be in the company of M. Night Shyamaladingdong??

  • Finally. Finally! A director who, upon receiving the most sought-after directorial prize in the world, doesn't forget to thank his composer for the music he or she wrote. Many, if not all, movies wouldn't have been as great as they are without their music.

  • I just realized 3 of those Directors just made their 1st film and were under 35 years old. Mendes and Shyamalan have sort of crashed, but Jonze is going storng still

  • @eniben4 Are you kidding? Mendes made 'Road to Perdition,' 'Jarhead,' 'Revolutionary Road,' and is slated to direct the twenty-third Bond movie among other films. He's still definitely going strong critically and commercially. Jonze, aside from music videos, made two other films after 'Being John Malkovich:' 'Adaptation' and 'Where the Wild Things Are.' Mendes is clearly still going much stronger than Jonze.

  • A great speech indeed!

  • mann wasn't robbed ..american beauty is one of the most amazing american films ever made. alan ball's screenplay is one of a kind bud

  • Now He's Gonna Direct James Bond.

  • @renues what?

  • It's also funny to think that the old lady from Jackass is an oscar nominated director

  • The sad news for Sam Mendes is that there was nowhere to go but down, considering this was his film debut.

  • He looked young and great in here. In just 10 years, he became an old man in directing Revolutionary Road.

  • Mann was robbed.

  • I wonder how it would look like if M Night Shyamalan won the Oscar, would his other films like Lady In the Water and the Last Airbender be great then??

  • 1999 was a great year for movies :)

  • Look at the chick behind him going nuts - LMAO

  • I see Wes! my boyfriend !=D

  • whos the guy next to alan ball?

  • Look at the lady in the back at 1:00 shes so excited!

  • I think Michael Mann deserved that oscar.

  • Mendes deserved this award. I also think that Anthony Minghella should have been nominated for The Talented Mr. Ripley and Frank Darabont should have been nominated for The Green Mile.

  • could you please upload alan ball's winning speech for best original script? cheers!

  • Sam Mendes, Michael Mann, Spike Jonze...WOW!

a very strong year for best director ;)

but it's a shame that "The Insider" didn't win anything :(

  • dear oscar,

could you please put more vids of directors winning?

    thanks!

  • could we please, PLEASE! have more videos of the many great directors winning oscars. A big shout out for either of Milos Forman's oscar wins and Bertolucci and Demme (as annoying as i heard it is). But big thanks for this i really wanted to see Mendes' oscar win

  • Blimey, imagine winning it when you're only 34 and it's your directorial debut. Fair credit to the guy!

  • Mendes' direction was elegant and sharp, but this award should have been handed to Spike Jones for the masterpiece he turned out in BJM. His direction went above and beyond and delved deep into a imaginative relam -- that was still grounded in reality.

  • My favorit movie

  • The Sixth Sense is my all-time favorite film. Wish it had won. :)

  • YAY!!

  • love his accent!! ^^

  • I wonder what M Night was thinking, "Ah, well I'm sure I'll be nominated again." woof

  • He Deserved it. American Beauty is like my favorite movie of all time.

  • would have loved to see spike jonze win but sam mendes deserved it too ;)

  • lovin the billy wilder shout out.

  • Look at that crazy woman behind him!! Lmao!

  • Ever since M. Night lost this nomination, he started going coco in his head!

  • @trixxgordon Nah he lost it after Unbreakable, that films still awesome

  • @trixxgordon No, it was after directing Unbreakable that he started going "coco in his head". Unbreakable was the greatest superhero movie of all time.

  • @trixxgordon That's a bit harsh. Just because he hasn't done something oscar worthy like The Sixth Sense doesn't mean he's lost his mind. I don't see him blowing up Hospitals or something. He's actually a cool guy.

  • I liked his speech. Lots of gratitude. Well deserved Oscar as well...

  • It's kind of funny to think that M. Night Shyamalan was nominated.

  • @JackKlompus13 Lasse Hallstrom too.

  • @JackKlompus13 It's also funny to think that had he won he'd be pretty much be considered the Michael Cimino of his generation now.

  • @JackKlompus13 why?

  • @JackKlompus13 Why? The Sixth Sense was an excellent movie.

  • @JackKlompus13 Why? The Sixth Sense is a terrific film. He definitely deserved the nomination.

  • In my top 5 films of all time! :-)

  • could you upload Alan Ball winning Best Original Screenplay for the same movie please?

  • tough year that was
