  • Wonderful to listen to. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom.

  • I have been watching your videos with interest, but I don't agree with the idea that Odin was a minor god. I understand that the pantheon was not a simple hierarchy like Snorri made it out to be bt I would like to know your sources on what you say about the gods. I believe Odin was a major god along with, Thor, and Frey due to the evidence of their cults and their temples at Uppsala. I also thought Nerthus was only mentioned in "Germania" by Tacitus.

  • @joenobody13 Hi there. I do not think I ever meant to say that Odin was a minor god as such. I am trying to show how he was not always a major god everywhere, although he was certainly very important during the Viking Age in Scandinavia, especially among the ruling clans of Norway and Denmark, and in some German tribes during the Iron Age. His position as king of the gods, however, was not always so certain, only to the clans that worshipped him as their ancestral father, and to poets, witches

  • @joenobody13 A bit more: What I am trying to show is the fact that Snorris mythical presentation is a 13th century presentation of the memories of pagan lore.Archaeology & other sources show that we are speaking of thousands of different clan and tribal traditions over a period of 2000 years in Northern Europe experiencing great diversity and variety in their emphasis on which deities they preferred to worship the most.Clan, tribe & time determined what gods were major where.

  • @joenobody13 and last; Linguists and place name specialists show that Nerthus is a latinized form of the Norse Njerd or Njorunn - which must be the sister-wife of Njord mentioned by Snorri and which seems to have been widely worshipped according to the place-name material. Place names are valuable sourced to actual pagan worship as places were named after the deities worshipped there, often at odds with the deities thought to be "major" in the medieval texts.

  • @LadyoftheLabyrinth Thanx for the reply, it's very informative. When I read the Edda, I have to admit I had a hard time following some of the parts where Snorri listed everyone's relations. Is there any relation between Njerd/Nerthus and Ostara/Eostre or Thor's mother Jord? The Earth mother goddesses often confuse me.

  • @joenobody13 I cannot possibly answer that is one little comment field... :). Nerjd/Nerthus/Njorunn seems to have much in common with Ran or Frigg, being associated with the depths and bottoms of lakes and seas, death, fate, community and motherhood. Perhaps also an earth goddess - the thing is that different deities were worshipped in different places and at different times, often overlapping in function and identity although having different names - so they could be related.

  • Your videos are like a restorative potion for my spirit. Thank You.

  • Very interesting, and sound correct to me.

In a very different pre-Christian religion, Theravadan Buddhism, we see that the speak of "Skillful" and "Unskillful" behavior. Measured in terms of how much suffering it causes to self and others. A skill can be learned. An unskilful person is not inherently and permanantly tainted. Much later, in Mahayana Buddhism, the words Good and Evil do creep in. Perhaps because of the Persian conquest of India?

  • I would imagine alot of the dualism was originally spread throughout Europe by the occupying Roman soldiery, who were frequently members of the Persian dualistic religion Mithraism.Good vs.Evil was the main thrust of this belief system, light (Ahura-Mazda) opposed darkness (Ahriman),virgin birth of a saviour,etc...even the date of Mithras' birth was appropriated by the Romans;December 25.In many ways, the coming of Rome was the beginning of the end for the native gods of Europe.

  • good stuff, thank you

  • Well..I guess I should have watched all your videos before I deigned to make comment on part 9 for you stole my thunder about Thor/Odin. Stole my thunder....these are the jokes people. I respect how grounded and wise you are LotL in applying your hard won knowledge.

  • 5-stars!...i will point out...baldur did have cult worship sites in northrrn germany...we just can't tear out ragnarok and ignore it...loki (fire trickster god slowly becomes more and more evil) surt is evil...fenrir is evil...garm is evil...midgard serpent maybe evil...(cant just say snorri sturleson was creative writing?)

  • Hi Lady. I like your video.

It might be true that all of us are corrupt to a degree, but when truth, justice, and generosity have reached a certain level something should be done.

My vote is to tear the fucker apart and be done with it, nicely, without anger, hatred, or fear, and solve a myriad of problems, at least for awhile.

I am willing to admit I could be wrong.

On a lighter note, I will send you a message in Icelandic and Old Norse, if the Universe allows it.

    Wassail.

  • This is probably THE most AWESOME video I have ever seen :D

  • Excellent, and so true!

Judiastic religions have so strongly influenced the modern ways of thinking... It's really quite sad on so many levels.

Thanks for sharing this information, hopefully it will inspire people to think for themselves, and think outside of the box...and of course to delve into the beleifs and heritage which is so rich and wise of the old Pagan cultures!

    Have a wonderful day!

    :)

  • @Schattenninpo Oh ouch, you could have phrased that a bit better.

    How about "Abrahimic religions?"

  • @milascave2 Didn't mean to offend. I said "Judiastic" becuase X-tianity and Islam both stemmed from Judiasm... but yes, "Abrahimic religions" is what I was reffering too. Semantics. :)

  • As always, most interesting and inspiring! (Loved the outburst too :-)

Made me wonder if the primal source of good/ evil concept was scarcity; leading to competition; leading to conflict...?

Or conflict between (masculine?) spirit/ mind versus (feminine?) body/ feelings...?

On a personal level, a conflict of thoughts and feelings creates depression; eventually the mind (or ego) has to shift, because feelings are stronger and cannot be suppressed endlessly without resulting into illness.

    Tak!

  • Fantastic video beautiful Goddess! xxxxxxx

  • @Helenhealer Thank you beatiful sister! :))
