I never truly liked this song until I heard Gram's version. I've always found Mick's voice to be a bit whiny and grating, but Gram perfectly captures the heartache and longing the lyrics convey. I could listen to him sing the words "chiiiiiildhood living" over and over and over again. Cuts straight to the heart.
Amotorcyle1, It's inexcusable to make a mistake like that these days, what with internet available to us all to answer any question we have. Google "who wrote wild horses" and check your facts. The rolling stones are fully credited for creating this song. Gram Parsons got their permission to record a version, which WAS released first, but it is their song. I agree this isn't a bad version, but this is a top 500 greatest song of all time, and credit needs to go to the proper artists.
Thank you! I'm so happy to find this song! Long ago I favorited every song Gram sang, & last night I found them all gone! He was so beautiful, He & Emmylou Harris have some of the best music on earth! Thanks again, Barb

this man should be inducted to the hall of fame not only for the music but influencing the stones itself

I think the confusion started because Parsons claimed they had written it for him. Could be, maybe, not likely.

Instrument wise, this is better than the stones version. Especially at the end with the piano and guitars. Wow!
