  • SAMMY DAVIS JR! Sammy was known years ago as "The World's Greatest Entertainer." He was!! This great man could sing beautifully, dance with grace and polish,

he was a Broadway Theater Actor! I saw him perform in a Broadway show called "Golden Boy." Here Sammy shows us just how great he was! Amazing tap dancing plus great singing! May God Bless Sammy Davis JR!

  • @TribeLamont Hahaha, no talent whatsoever! I think the talent of all our generations funneled into his DNA because none of us got any of it.

  • After seeing such a display of talent... come on!! do we have to accept that ALL we've got left today is Bieber and MTV??? Poor signs of our times...!!

  • WOW! I'm really glad that the audience applauded like they did even though the act was not over. And loved that cheer at the end of the act. I would have been doing more than that. I would be jumping up and down screaming like a fangirl.

And it just tears me up that even that long ago the majority of audience there is white :')

  • this is back then when humor really was fun

  • 2 people are silly gooses!!!! ;)

  • qualityy

  • Jeepers 'ol man river was bleedin' fantastic!!

  • can't get enough of listening to this. Perfect!!!

  • I miss that little talented man, he was funny, he had a great voice and he sure could dance, I didn't realize how much I missed him, they don't make talent like that any more.......Old Man River gives me goose pimples.....

  • He was the greatest performer of his time. I just wish we had come farther. It is still the same in America. People just don't pay attention.

  • With the same token isn't disappointing to her bad news about someone who has the same first or last name as you. What about if the person has the same first and last name as you - and they're on the news for killing someone? Oprah Winfrey did a show like the that. The guest said their lives were changed by it. My brothers name is Samuel (we call him Sammy or Sam) last name Davis. I started this discussion earlier for those who missed the last post.

  • tti did´nt know that are somebody is out there who like it the way i do

  • One of the all time gr8 showtimers

  • This was one of the most amazing performers not only of his time but eternally! He is among the reason I ever got into dance/acting & singing!

  • Dear Gangsta547, from my elderly musician mother (who tries to use the web but can't quite get the hang of it yet!) & myself - we both thank you so much for uploading this video. It brought back so many memories for my mother. And for me, to hear & see this just cements the fact that this is superb entertainment, absolute showmanship that is unsurpassed. Brilliance which this world has not seen for a long, long time. XO

  • Uploader, the captions you added are annoying as hell. Please, stop ruining such an amazing video by inserting in dumb Internet jargon constantly.

I'm aware you can turn it off, but why bother when I can click on another uploader's video that isn't ruined?

  • wow im truly speech less

  • How can anyone ever beat thissssssssss ; D

  • Beautiful stuff. They don't make them like Sammy anymore. RIP.

  • An entertainer with cigarette in hand on camera in today's tv standards? NOT GONNA HAPPEN.

  • すごい。素晴らしい。最高。ありがとう。

  • Q: Did he literally make his cigarette vanish into thin air, or did he toss it off stage at 1:51? He had it in his hand, then all of a sudden it wasn't there.

  • Love the Dean Martin impression! Sammy was the best!

  • fantastic...........

  • AMAZING

  • i saw him in Milan Palatrussardi-year 1988 about. a show with Frank Sinatra & Liza Minelli formidable....in this video ...I HATE THIS DAMNED CIGARETTE.......

  • Hey, look! It's Louie Bellson! :D

  • cheers xx

  • Is there any way you can take out your commentary? It's really annoying, distracting, and fucks with the jive.

  • wow, you could smoke on tv before!

  • I would love to tap dance and be smooth and graceful, unfortunately I'm 5ft8 and over 200 lbs, I'll stick with doing what I do. lol

  • The greatest performer that ever lived. Hilight of my life is seeing him live once.

  • Sammy Davis Jr,,, Second to No One.....

  • Never again will there be a talent like Sammy... thanks for everything....

  • 3:43 I KNEW WE HAD A BROTHA!

  • Sammie Davis is on my list of the Baddest Motherfuckers to ever exist. There are certain people who when they enter a room, just reek coolness, and Sammie Davis Jr was without a doubt one of them.

  • The Last Part Was SO POWERFUL!!!

    Great Performer, LOVE IT!

  • This guy was so much fun to watch. If he had a talent other than for performing, it was his ability to tolerate SHIT from people, especially the other "rats" in the Rat Pack.

  • Very Talented man----Very cool too----Love Tap Dancing!Melinda as Marilyn Monroe@Melindajazzrus

  • I have to say I grew up Listing to This era my dad used to listen to this all the time makes me remember Dad

  • He was extraordinary! No doubt about it. Love that guy!

  • Sam is funny

  • The tap dancing was astounding. But it all is. We shall never see his like again. What a genuine star.

  • get rid of those thought bubbles dued

  • Smoking kills.

  • I took tap dancing for 13 years and my taps never sounded like that. amazing

  • With respect to all who are and have been entertainers, this man was beyond a doubt the greatest entertainer the world has known.

  • Sammy Davis is a genius!

  • Message to Sammy Davis, Jr:

You were one of greatest entertainers ever!

Sorry you had to pass on!

BUT: You left a great musical legacy!

Decades later- Your Fans and the entire world is still enjoying your great performances! Keep singing and tapping in Heaven! God Bess You!

  • WOW! SAMMY DAVIS WAS AMAZING!!

In this video we see him tap dance, which shows his great dancing skills. But then there is a real treat! Sammy soulfully sings "Old Man River" with all the pain and feeling that the lyrics convey! This was a performance of true greatness! I am touched by it!

God bless you Sammy Davis!! The World misses you!!

  • Sammy Davis was the "Greatest Entertainer."

No Argument. Everyone knows it! No contest with Sinatra.

I am a fan of both of these greats! Sammy could do it all - singing, dancing, impersonating! Frank was a great singer of ballads, of love lost, love found, and unrequited love. That was his greateness!! No need to compare these two greats!

Each was great in his own right, but as far as a "complete entertainer," Sammy Davis rightly can be called by that name. God Bless both of these greats!

  • HELLO EVERYONE! I GREW UP IN THE 1950'S AND SAW SAMMY PERFORM MANY TIMES! SAMMY WAS CALLED

"THE WORLD'S GREATEST ENTERTAINER" BY EVERYONE!!

REASONS ARE OBVIOUS: 1) GREAT SINGER, 2) GREAT DANCER, 3) GREAT IMPERSONATOR! GOD BLESS U SAMMY!

    YOU WERE THE GREATEST!!

  • This man was really multi-talented, a rare species then, more so today. Had he been a white dude, he probably would had attained the status of Mr Sinatra, or perhaps even exceeded him.

  • @GinoongJojo If you truly believe that Sinatra was a better performer than Sammy Davis, I don't think you are considering the depth of talent of each man. Sinatra was a good singer but lost his voice later in life and had only his sense of tempo to sustain his popularity. Sammy had everything--singing, dancing, acting. He was able to maintain a very high level despite failing health and advancing age. I believe Davis was far superior to Sinatra, and in all ways a better entertainer.

  • looks like he's showing Tom Jones at some point =D

    great soulful performance

  • the man is god itself

  • Comment removed

  • man i grew up in 70's (38 y/o) and ive just stopped watching TV and listening to this bs thats out today.. im hooked on this old school stuff on youtube... this guy is just amazing!! watchted this like 10 times in a row.. FU gaga

  • I loved watching Sammy on TV when I was little. It's too bad that a lot of kids today don't know who he is. He is one of the greatest of all time. We still love you Sammy

  • We should build a monument bigger than any monument known to man kind for our children to visit and be inspired by it an value the art of entertainment without being tainted by culture of skin color!

  • oh goodness he is so awesome!

  • Sammy Davis, Jr. Sammy reputedly could do "the trick": extend his hand, put a glass on top of it, pull back his hand, draw, fire, and shatter the glass before it hit the ground. He was ranked third or fourth nationally in quick draw competition, which was the rage in the late 1950’s. As he used to say, "It only takes one good eye to shoot."

  • THE ULTIMATE ENTERTAINER

  • What an incredible artist!!! Tap dancing rules!

  • This is magic.

  • Never have been touched and amazed by any other singer and dancer, like I have been by Sammy Davis Jr. What a weird personality, what an unbelievably talented man.

  • all while smoking a rette.

  • THE best! End of discussion. No further debate. That's it.

  • Sammy Davis Jr. was the freaking ULTIMATE ENTERTAINER!!!!!!! #1 in my book. MJ 1(b)

  • Spellbinding! You are right Gangsta547, he did it all.

  • sinatra did ol' man river better

  • OH.....MY...GOD.....he is fuckin AMAZING!! =D

  • wow now i see why Michael jackson said Sammy inspired him so much to dance and sing....i mean look at this he is great

  • Talent and character man. Sammy Davis Jr. was probably the greatest entertainer of the century. Michael Jackson's side show image took alot from his legacy...but even without that, he doesn't hold a candle to SDJ. Sammy great pipes, Michael Jackson was a very weak singer after his voice changed. Anyone who hasn't heard "The Shelter of Her Arms" by Sammy needs to do so immediately.

  • Who is Michael Jackson?! THIS man is the REAL king!!!!

  • I was lucky enough to see Sammy in Lake Tahoe in the early 80's. Without question the most talented individual i have ever seen and probably the greatest total entertainer ever.he has what i have heard described as the "arrogance of greatness" And he deserved to have it.

  • My MikeyBear (Michael Jackson) introduced me to Sammy Davis Jr... omg i didnt know he wuz dis talented.... he had me on the edge uf mah seat in excitmentt.. den wen he sanqq Ol Man River, i started cryinqqq.... he puts so muchh passion into his sonqq nd dancee... now i see wheree Mikeyy getz it.. :''')

  • wow 191 and 0!

  • he is great

  • i loooooove him!

  • If talent is the measure,Sammy Davis Jr was the greatest entertainer in the 20th century-everyone- absolutely everyone-who sees him perform should remember that he paid his dues as well-some heavy dues-that paved the way for others to follow a little more easily-god bless his soul-and thanks ever so much for posting this example of his work

  • Sammy Davis Jr truly is the most versatile entertainer and one of the most talented.

It was my love for Michael Jackson (another one of the greats) that introduced me to Sammy Davis Jr... They loved each other and I love them both.

Sammy Davis Jr was the template for the consummate performer! I long for this kind of talent in our day and age. It is truly soooo rare!

  • This was wonderful...HE WAS BROUGHT TO ME BY VISION AND I GOT UP AND CHECK HIM OUT..WOW...THAT IS A WHOLE LOT OF PERFORMING...AMAZING AND HE HAS SUCH spirit with what he do..his heart is deep in it..THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO

  • Some people say singers are no good until they have experience. I give it a different name. Everyone has to earn the right to do certain things - singing being a very good example. There are a few people with more of a right to sing The Ole Man River than Sammy.

  • This is why youtube is so great.

    Amazing to see this.

RIP the greatest entertainer that ever lived.

  • oh my god. where is the talent, I have tears in my eyes, too much.

  • " 'Cause your small, small......SM-ALL"

  • I love Sammy Davis Jr and this song made me cry and as i watch this video i thought he did a lot he sings, dances, he was in the war and he did impressions and i was thinking someone should try and do a impression of him dont try and sing that song like him because you cant only he can sing a song like that and make it mean something to at lease one person.

  • this is on of my fav videos of sammy and you have to like him because he has so much feel in his song and dance and he is one who changed the world with many other people and this is a video that proves it. and any song he sang so one can compare to this song and many many others thanks to the person who put this video on

  • So 1:21 is where Michael Jackson got that pose from...

  • @EveryNameIsTakenFFS2 LOL? That was nothing like MJ >_<

  • @Woodsaras Have you seen the This Is It cover??

  • @EveryNameIsTakenFFS2

Yes, that is the Candie Man finally pose!

  • sammys just amazing at everything he does

  • He did it all with a cigarette... Fuck, he is cool.

  • No one like him today that's for sure. Amazing.

  • Wonderful! I have no other word, except thank-you!

  • this is entertainment....that crap lady gaga does is far from entertaining

  • @gabri2889

    that´s true!

  • sammy i am your bigest fan ever love your work i would have loved to meet you

  • Absolutly outstanding , worlds greatest entertainer EVER bar none ...sammy you were the man !!!!!

  • What a man.

  • All that amazing talent wrapped up in such a wonderful man!

  • superb

  • Mr. Davis was a unique human being not only because of his prolic talent but that he rose above much adversity, blind in one eye, Black at a time of extreme Jim Crowism & racism born into extreme poverty, had his life threatened (until Frank Sinatra - who truly loved Sammy lke a brother- stepped in and put a stop to it), because he married a Swedsh beauty, blonde May Britt, YET was wildly succesful and beloved by all - Black and White alike! Guess what else about Sammy - he was Republican!

  • this is just amazing

  • Ladies and gentleman, the world's greatest entertainer.

  • why is he always smokin thats what killed him

  • I love that Michael admired this guy. He's the coolest!!!

  • what year was this?

  • If only there were more people with as much heart as Sammy had, we would be much further ahead in treating everyone equal ! Thanks for the post Gangsta!

  • @krg1971

Yes, Mr Davis' performance is so beautiful! He had such a depth of beauty inside and it was revealed when he sang! Wonderful!

  • Sammy Davis appeared on the Phil Donahue show some time in the late 80's. Great interview --There was a very touching exchange he had with an elderly woman inthe audience who had been a chorus dancer many years before. He had hip surgery not long before that, but he invited her on stage to dance. Does anyone have that to post?

  • That's what i call a good show!

  • I love the man. RIP Sammy.

  • Outstanding! I'd like to see an X factor reject do that

  • @voodoochilled1

Yes I think it would be most humorous! But then again it would possibly be too painful to watch! Mr Davis is such a rare breed! There isn't enough X Factor non-entities on the planet to fill the void he left behind. I figure we'll have to wait for the Universe to collapse then re-expand again and hopefully a human being will somehow arise on a planet somewhere who may possibly fill that void. What I am saying basically is that it might take a while!

  • @marcusgael Well I'll wait in vain, but won't hold my breath!

  • ok give me four bars from home!

  • he is the man :D

  • rip

i discovered him through michael jackson

so what michael loves i love too

  • with a cig in his mouth?!? WOW what a champ all those movie stars back then like john wayne how did they do that stuff while smoking?!? when i smoked i had NO endurance!

  • Such wonderful memories from my youth in front of tube... Sammy helped break the color line for me when I asked my extended family and neighbors why the Negroes lived across the viaducts on the Southside of --& then attended a 95% black urban high school in the 60's to meet smarter folks than I. They helped me to learn about more racism and a colorless, multi-templed God and so much truth from all my southside neighbors regardless of origin or religion.

  • It took a lot of courage for Sammy Davis Jr. to sing Ole Man River back then in front of that audience.
