    Linux рулит!)

  • @8givchik8 Linux is for sure awesome! Thanks for the comment!

  • I'm wanting to play a game on this laptop like a free mmo you can download from a website. do you think this laptop can support it and what do you recommend I use on this computer like windows 7 or??

  • should i get more ram on mine i have to purcahse a charger at radioshack and wondering if i should buy ram or not

  • On Vista were you able to play youtube videos?

  • I think that I missed the point of this video 'was there one' ?

  • hey dude or should i say people you want aero to work without it eating you ram or video ram?? then try true transparency, the best aero software

  • Used to own this Dell, absolutely hated it!

  • Used to own this Dell, absolutely hated it!

  • Used to own this Dell, absolutely hated it!

  • I must be lucky, my Dell Latitude C610 has a Pentium-III 1.2GHz!!! LOL

I have to say it's a VERY reliable laptop. I bought it used about 4 years ago. About 8 months ago it started to physically fall apart so I bought an eMachines E620-5885 to replace it (I just use it for school anyway). Even though it was physically falling apart, it just wouldn't die. Now I have it sitting on my kitchen table, I pretty much never turn it off and it runs my magicjack for me with Win XP Pro SP2 as the OS.

  • Yup. Thanks for summing that up.

  • I put vista on my c 610 and the sreen size changed. i think my video card is not compatibale

  • I own this Notebook too, but mine has a P3-M 1,2 GHz (Tualatin), 512 MB RAM. 80 GB HDD (16 MB Cache) and a Broadcom b/g WLAN Card where is WPA2-AES capable. 2 Accu has it too.

I´m running on it Windows XP Pro SP3 and Debian 5.0.3

Its old but good and better than the new "netbooks" for me.

Mine was for free, i have it from electronic scrap. :)

  • I´m using it, too.

But ive added some memory, and a new harddisk. now it has 80 gb hdd with 16 mb cache and 512 mb of ram. os is windows xp pro and debian 5.0.2 and it still runs good. a bcm4306 minipci wlan card added to, i beat the most nebooks with it :D

  • What is the Maximum amount of RAM that the Dell C610 can Have?

  • I've seen people get it up to 1GB.

  • I have a latitude C610 with a 160GB hard drive 512mb of ram and a 1.20GHz CPU with windows xp.

  • great video dude!

dude, can u say the name of the song ?

  • There's actually no name. It's the song that you hear when you set up XP for the first time.

  • i have to 256mb of ram its not so bad i have windows xp and its greate but i need money to upgrade

  • i put puppy live on my shit and i dont have any sound. n osound drivers for my sound blaster 7.1 surround sound?? fuck puppy for that! but everything else is cool. im using it to post this comment on this youtube page. for a vid that i couldnt hear. but its not so bad. if this thind is not dibian than it would explain alot.

  • i wood install Linux but i cant play all of my games T.T

  • You can play alot of games on linux these days, I have recently been playing games such as Half life, Counter-strike source and killing floor on my linux laptop using WINE and if WINE cannot run them you can always buy cedegar which seems to run nearli every windows game

  • Ahaaaa, but there is a way my friend, you could use a windows emulation, or you could try wine :D

  • I was actually able to play Halo Combat Evolved on WINE. :)

  • puppy is amazing..also try muppy. so fast and efficient. ram is the key! hard drives are probably the greatest bottleneck in system performance.

  • I tryed upgrading my latitude c610 to vista but I can't install my internet driver. How can I fix this?

  • I remember ethernet didn't work out of the box... I think I went on Dell's website for a very old driver and installed it from the INF.

  • how do u use the internet with vista on latitude c610??????????

  • Woooww O,o

  • use 1gb ram

  • Does Aero work on that Dell?

  • Nope.

  • how to you use 3 os in same comp

  • Tri-boot. :)

  • Do you think that i can install windows 7 on my dell latitude c800 (ram and processor is just like your dell)... ???

  • You probably could, but it would be slow.

  • how ti hell do you run 3 operative systems on same time pleez answer, so awesome

  • i may be acquiring this exact laptop soon, it comes with XP, but i may install Xubuntu or Win2K. is it good for internet browsing and music?

  • I would install Xubuntu. It's a lot faster than Windows.

It's great for internet browsing and music... ;)

  • You can also run Wine on Xubantu

  • if i buy a laptop on ebay and it says primary disk drive: CD-ROM, will i still be able to view movies on it if i download a software for it?

  • DVD's are not controlled by software... You would have to buy a DVD Drive for it... Obviously a CD-ROM drive cannot read DVD's...

  • so your saying that the c610 can really run vista?

  • It can, but is slow.

  • I would say. Vista is a little sluggish even on our brand new computer with 8GB of RAM & a quad core processor @2.5 GHz!!!!

  • what OS does Dell C610 come with? (as in what does the little sticker in the bottom right hand corner read when it is new)

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Edition.

  • i just bought one on ebay, and it says the primary disk drive was CD-ROM. Will i still be able to view DVDs on it if i download the correct software?

  • My c610s came with XP Pro SP1

  • so your saying that I can run a simpler versoin of vista on my 1.5 ghz celeron M Toshiba A55 with 512 mb of ram?

  • You could. By using a software called vLite, you can literally "trim" up you Vista DVD. :)

  • and I did, unfortunately the hard drive I installed it on was damaged in the past and it worked the first time around (quickly too) but then I got a virus (forgot to install mcafee)and then it wouldn't work the second and third time around too well, the hdd keeps on skipping.

beyond booting on the 2nd and 3rd time it would take 10 min to launch firefox.

it was fun and faster than xp while it lasted though.

  • Hmm... If you got a virus that affected the hard drive, it sounds like the virus was a killer one... Just make sure to never turn off (kill) your PC when it's active... You can break many things...

Wow. 10 minutes to launch FF! That's a long time... Although it is fun to do.

Surprisingly Vista can be faster than XP...

  • The virus literally laughed at me too, with a message box the literally said hehehehe.

Moral of the story, install a firewall when you install an OS

  • And never use Internet Explorer without a firewall. :D

  • Never use Internet Explorer full stop.

  • that computer looks retarded!!!!

  • Haha, it's my Linux-Based computer now. :)

  • and i had a crappy compaq pieceofshitbox with 380mb ram 1.81ghz single processor 144gb hard disk....now...3.5gb ram , 744gb hard disk 2.4ghz quad processor !!

  • Wow, good specs now. ;)

  • is your vista installed from dvd or one of the stripped down versions?

  • It's neither. I took all the files from the DVD to a flash drive, and moved them onto the hard drive of the computer... It's full Vista... :)

  • haha, it takes arounds 40 secs for me with 2 gigs of ram, so only you with crappy pc's will boot up slow

  • In about three months you will need more RAM .

  • Actually, no I do not. It's not my primary PC either anymore. I run PCLinuxOS on the machine now, and I have plenty of RAM left for the things I need to do. :) I have around 200MB of RAM left usually it's plenty for what I use that PC for.

  • How long does the boot up take? for vista?

  • Most of this video is real time. Except for typing in my passwords (it isn't shown), it's all real...

It's around 90 seconds, or a minute and a half... :) Yeah, it's slow. But it was fun just trying it out...

  • Nice. I have the Windows 7 pre-beta and it is pretty awesome. I am using it as my main OS right now and it works just as well as vista but faster, with the cool little perks. Its still freezes every few hours but it doesn't crash. I can't wait for the real release to come out, it should be amazing!

  • Defiantly. I cannot wait for it... It's going to be a lot faster

  • Haaaa Just Watching This Video and listening to that xp Song on a quiet afternoon brings back memories when Windows xP first came out

  • Defiantly... :D

  • hey tjasko ur not too bright having ur lappy running on the carpet man

blocks air intakes as well as an create static charge destroying ur notebook

  • I was not running it like that the whole time.

I know what happens when you do that. But, it was only on the carpet for about 13 minutes. It wasn't that bad. I never use a laptop on any carpet; or the ground for that matter.

I just did that because my desk wasn't the cleanest, and I wanted a light background filled with very few colors... So the LCD would show up well in the video... :)

  • HI I HAVE GOT A TOSHIBA SATELLITE 1110 Z15 LAPTOP AND MY SPECS ARE:

    30GB HDD

    256MB RAM

    INTEL CELERON 2.0GHZ PROCESSOR

ATI MOBILITY RADEON 16MB GRAPHICS CARD

AND I HAVE GOT WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM THE FULL VERSION RUNNING ON THAT LAPTOP AND VISTA HAS NOT ONCE CRASHED ON ME WITH 256MB RAM! I CAN RECEIVE UPDATES FROM MICROSOFT AS WELL! i DIDNT EVEN USE VLITE TO DO IT!

  • Nice!

  • Have you still got vista running on that laptop?

I managed to install service pack one on my laptop with 256mb RAM (see comment above!)

did you use VLITE for vista or is it the whole install?

  • No, Vista isn't running on that laptop now.

It was the whole install. :)

  • Why have you taken it off and wot operating system do you have now then?

  • Just because I don't want to run Vista on that machine... It's running Windows XP SP3....

  • love the way youve got the same vista background for all three OS's lol

  • Haha, yeah. I did that on purpose. Now, my wallpaper changes on bootup every time...

  • Is it slow with as hell with vista on a P3 I might get one just for school and I have vista discs

  • It's not too slow if your run it with aero off.

  • and thats the windows welcome tune isnt it ?

  • Yep. :)

  • even worse halfwayy thru installation the power lead is dodgy and the laptop cut off from power and had to reinstall it over again :| , bad enough im using a serial key that about 3000 people have

  • Yikes!

  • im currently installing xp on my mates old c610 , cas it got virus corrupted all files inc documents , taking bloody ages just to format the 20 gig hdd

  • puppy linux will run with as little as 50 MB ram. I know I have seen it! although it wont run fast ex: takes almost an hour to load

    but it will run. xD

  • Yeah, it's quite amazing if you ask me... If you have a computer with 50MB of RAM, it's time for a upgrade... I wouldn't even run Puppy on that, because if your computer has 50MB of RAM, it's most likely old... :)

  • lol I have a laptop with 3GB of ram and a 3 GHZ processor. I was just saying that it was possible to run puppy linux on a computer with as little as 50 MB. lol Just speculating. xD Damn Small Linux is better for really really old computers as DSL will run with as little as 10 MB ram but DSL isnt as user friendly as puppy linux. xD

  • Yeah, DSL isn't as easy to use; but hey it does work fine once you get it working... That's what Linux is, very low resource... Or just the Unix kernel in general, so then with saying that, I can include Mac OS X too... Anything that pretty much runs upon the Unix kernel is very fast... :) Now, there are exceptions to that rule, but usually their fast...

  • I agree.

  • Done! :)

i will appreciate if u can make a vid tutorial on how you installed them duhh :]

  • It'll be on YouTube soon. ;)

  • Already on now. :)

  • Yes, sorry about that.

1,024 GB of max ram? you mean 1,024 MB of Max.

  • lol 1,024 GB of ram would be impossible! the worlds fastest computer only has 80 GB ram and it is damn fast!

  • Guys, sorry for these comments at the top. YouTube needs to work on writing comments in the past. It's just not working right. The new comment is on top, the quote on the bottom. :)

  • Dell's are great machines...

love my Dell,it comes wifi ready,so I just buyed an minipci wifi card. Played a lot of 3D games,I love this laptop.

  • i will appreciate if u can make a vid tutorial on how you installed them duhh :]

  • I do not have this laptop anymore. But, as I said, you really don't want to do it because it is very slow.

But, just Google 256mb of RAM in Vista. You'll find it. I have to be cautious because this allows modifying software...

  • hows it possible for vista run on 256ram?

  • you can run XP with 256 of ram, and you can run vista(all be it slow) with 256 i would never run vista unless the computer was a dual core machine with at least 1gb of memory,

anythin less is unusable in my eyes

  • 1,024 GB of max ram? you mean 1,024 MB of Max.

  • for this machine, what is the best operative system?

p.s sorry my bad english, greatings from italy.

  • That's okay. I can still understand you.

The best operating system (OS) on this machine would be Linux (Ubuntu, OpenSuse, Fedora, anyone would work). Because it is low resource. But, if your not a Linux-type of guy, I would use XP. It was running fine on this machine. :)

for this machine, what is the best operative system?

p.s sorry my bad english, greatings from italy.

  • fake.

  • No, it is not fake; not at all. I can guarantee that for you. You can do this buy modifying some files on the DVD, then burning a new one, then installing it. I'm not going to get into on how to do it; but I can assure you it is real. :)

    fake.

  • Your Vista boot is faster that my XP boot and my system specs are better than yours!

  • Wow, that's funny. Try to download a application called CCleaner. Google it. It can clean out your old files. :)

Your Vista boot is faster that my XP boot and my system specs are better than yours!

  • for god's sake buy some freaking ram

  • Bought a new laptop since then! It's belonging to one of my friends now.

for god's sake buy some freaking ram

  • i can boot my xp in less that 30 seconds. :D

but i still cant understand how your laptop can run vista with 256mb of ram.. i tried it before but failed. :(

  • I modified some files to make it pass that "you have to little RAM" error. :)

i can boot my xp in less that 30 seconds. :D

but i still cant understand how your laptop can run vista with 256mb of ram.. i tried it before but failed. :(

  • could you please tell me how you boot XP in less than 30 sec. I rely on my dell c610 laptop for my job and its been getting slower and slower. cant afford to buy new memory upgrades yet. i would greatly appreciate it if you could teach us how. Thanks

  • A tool called CCleaner will help a lot.

  • Thats impossible.

    It is impossible. Impossible.

My friend said it is impossible using WinXP with 256MB RAM, i proved him wrong, i say it is impossible running Windoze Vista with 256MB RAM, you proved me wrong...

    I was, wrong?

    Not impossible?

  • Yes, you can run Vista on this machine, but it is very slow. I actually used XP on this for quite a while. But, I stopped. Vista with 256mb is possible; but it is very slow. Don't worry, this is all real. None of this is fake. ;) I was really running Vista... It was quite slow... But, I only did it to have fun...

  • Yes, you can run XP and Vista with 256mb of RAM. With XP, it's okay, not the best, but it is usable. But with Vista, nope. Not usable much. Just did this to prove that it was possible.

    Thats impossible.

    It is impossible. Impossible.

My friend said it is impossible using WinXP with 256MB RAM, i proved him wrong, i say it is impossible running Windoze Vista with 256MB RAM, you proved me wrong...

    I was, wrong?

    Not impossible?

  • Actually I installed Vista right after I saw this. In fact, it is faster than XP on the same computer, and XP has the bigger partition.

Thanks for putting this up on youtube. :D

  • Your welcome :)

  • I was watching the boot times from start to when the OS was available for actual use (all icons on desktop and toolbar, mouse pointer was not an hourglass, etc.) when a user could actually interact with it.

    Vista was about 2:45

    XP was around 1:04

    Puppy was 0:46

I do not know who would wait that long for Vista, although on my Toshiba M400 with 4 Gb of RAM it is fast.

Check out Puppy on a USB that can be booted or run under QEMU. Look for Puppy Linux QEMU.

  • Well, my XP now is running much faster. I can reboot in under a minute now...

Maybe because I set the processor to run at max performance. But, it works nicely.

  • Pls tell us too how you set the processor to run at max performance.. Thanks a lot in advance.

  • It's in the BIOS.

  • My XP used to take 10+ minutes...

    I had 800MhZ and 256Mb RAM

  • I love my Dell,it comes wifi ready,so I just buyed an minipci wifi card. Played a lot of 3D games,I love this laptop.

  • i have the same model (with DVD drive), and it is a machine, it is extremely relaible and runs massive programs and still handles it, love it wouldnt trade it for a new laptop

  • wow. if u guys think that pc is good... mine is a dell vostro 2.00GHz AMD Processor, 1GB of RAM, 120GB Hard drive, 256MB graphics card. Check out my video on my profile page. Explains it there.

  • Your PC has very good specs, but I would upgrade the RAM.

  • i am. lol. i just got the lappy yesterday for x-mas. ima upgrade to 1.5 GB or 2 GB, watever i can get wit my gift cards, lol

  • That's good.

I would upgrade it to 2 GB if I were you. That'll be a nice laptop to do some gaming on. But, I wouldn't use Vista for gaming because it doesn't support many 3D games. Errr Vista!!!

  • i have no problems with vista. i love it and it it is fast on my lappy. i play world of warcraft and it runs very smoothly even with the graphics turned all the way up. Hey everyone, check out my videos! Click on my name and watch my laptop unpacking and setup video! COMMENTS ARE APPRECIATED!

  • Vista is nice, but it isn't compatible with a lot of software out there. And it is extemely hard to dual boot with Vista.

  • i dont like dual booting. no point. i like the operating system i have. it works for me. lol

  • I dual boot with Vista, why do you say its hard?

  • Let's say if you bought a PC with Vista on it; it wouldn't be easy to dual boot with linux, xp, grub, and freedos like it can with XP. I have many operating systems on my computer, that it isn't funny. I love to dual boot. Gives you the freedom to choose what ever OS you want. But, there is one problem with Vista. You can't dual boot every OS easily. If you know a lot about operating systems, you will get what I am saying. ;)

  • Lets just say you can't boot every OS wit hvista...

  • Lets just say you can't boot every OS with Vista...

  • dude what is that song playing in the background it is very soothing

  • THat is the Microsoft Windows XP theme song when you first set it up.

  • now you make me want to puke.... O.o lol

  • i have a penitium d,1.4 ghz 2gb ram,80gb hdd is that good.

  • Yes, that is very good. That will run Vista very smoothly.

  • not really

  • It should. I have a computer like his specs, and it is actually very fast.... But, a better processor would be nice to have, but it is plently for Vista if you are using the PC for home use...

  • may i suggest u get rid of XP? Im not going to start one of those dumb XP vs Vista wars cos thats just sad but i have got XP and vista and i have to say XP is alot faster and alot better.

  • Of course I got rid of slow Vista. I do use vista on my other computers, but not this one. I use XP as the main OS.

  • Yes, it is a very big hasstle to put vista on that. It ran very slow. But I was very surprised with the boot time... Vista is possible on old computers, but this is mainly to show that Vista can run on them...

Puppy linux was extremely fsat on this too!

  • i have the same laptop but with higher specs here are the specs to mine os xp pro ram 1.00gb processor intel p3-m 1.20 ghz 797 fsb hard drive 40.0gb all other specs video card etc are the same

  • Yeah. It's not a bad laptop...
