I'm going through my second YLOD with my fat 60GB, but I have had a problem since the 1st time it YLOD. Do you know how the Green battery that remembers Date/Time goes in correctly? I'm not asking for a diagram, lol, just some direction of the pins and connector.

i dropped my ps3 & now when i try to turn it on it goess green then beeps 3 times & blinks red. you think you kno wat wrong with it & will this process will work ? & i kno its not Yellow light of death
if this works idk what i will do make a gift card so you can shave your beard but im going to try my luck my 60gb fat ps3 got the yellow light of death after playing 2 hours mw2. im going to first remove the hdd and re install it see if its that if its not than ill open everything.
@piokz25 "how long did u reflow?" If you were talking about heating up the CPU and GPU with a heat gun, start at 350c heating the entire Bord for about one minuet, then up to 475c around the CPU and GPU for about two minuets, try to keep the bord in a flat space wile heating, then let cool for about 10 minuets. reapply thermal past and reassemble.
hey, thanks for the video and I know you posted this a long time ago but what did you use fir the thermal compound and where can I get some. I think the problem with mine is what the video showed because I was just watching a an episode of rescue me when my ps3 died. so if you can help me out i would really appreciate it.
i plan on fixing my ps3 later today, but i think my problem could be the HDD because i hade to small speakers side by side my ps3 thinking it looked cool lol. so do you think my HDD got fried or what?
I hope you can help me. I have had my PS3 since 2008's Chrstmas and it hasn't given me a problem till now. It keeps freezing up on every game I play! On Alien vs Predator it doesn't get passed the sponsors before it freezes and on Smackdown vs RAW 2010 it doesn't even get that far. What could be the problem?
@thesparkzor ok i havent been on in awhile. but just from memory I havent had any problems like that, What I myself can guess the problem is, is that your BDD is going bad, Or your HDD is going bad, If that dosent help sorry, I only know how to fix what I myself have encountered. and I have had a BDD Fail, and only two ways to fix it, Ebay or Sony Support.
So far It has worked every time I have done it. But i have a friend that didnt heat the board long enough and it only worked for a few days befor needing to be redone. Mine though has worked ever since i posted this vid, and i tend to leave it on for a few nights at a time.
I didnt have the tool to open the cover, so i improvized. figgured if its broken, It cant hurt it. Ever since i fixed it though its ran better then when i got it.
It can only be a few things. If you can get a Green light, but games wont play, you have a bad Bluray Drive, You cant fix that. If you cant get a solid green Light IE YLOD You have had a problem with the CPU in witch cleaning the old paste off and "Properly" reapplying a new coat of past Should fix the problem. If you cant get Power at all you just need a new Power supply unit. and I know of a few other various problems i have not yet encountered my self and have dont know how to fix
I am attemting this fix 2moro... all i need thermal paste..... i cant get it anywhere... any suggestions? wil i have to go to a computer shop? i tried a DIY store and no luck....
It can be tricky to find somewhere that sells thermal past. Best case check anywhere that sells a large quantity of computer parts. I'd try Best Buy or some other store of that nature. If you still cant seem to find it. If nothing else I know you can order it offline.
as i saw in your video the thermal paste was shot, my 60GB ps3's Ceramic based thermal paste was shot and poorly applied. the fan would kick in a matter of seconds. after re-applying new Artic Silver 5, my fans take a good hour to kick in. so i might have prevented the YLOD on my ps3.
The way Sony applied thermal compound was a Joke, It saddens me to know this was the cause leading up to my YLOD. but knowing the simple fix is to just properly reheat the solder on the chips I hope both me, and everyone who learns this will be able to cheaply fix there PS3
