excellent video, very well done, camera work really great ;enjoyed very much. will save these videos, a little tricky, but pay attenton you'l have no problems thank you very much.......
Wow, quite amazing, definitely going to get on making my own -important skill to have! One question however, you mentioned that with synthetic rope you need that double knot whereas with natural cordage you dont, why is that?
@whollylostandgone nylon tends to slip unless it is double knotted as it has a shiney surface meaning low friction , a natural cord such as hemp has a high friction surface and tends not to slip - hope this helps?
@maveraver Just finished a purse net, I ended up using sisal on account of not finding any hemp. The sisal was a bit of a pain in the ass to work with, but after a hours figuring out the technique (took a few times rewatching the videos) and a few mistakes got it down! I think its a skill that takes a little bit to get the hang of it, but once you got it you got it! Thanks alot! Amazing videos!
@whollylostandgone - excellent job, it's a skill that will remain with you for life now, i find it's a great way to relax at the end of a hard day, turn the radio on, grab a cold one fromkt he fridge and lose yourself in your thoughts making a net, like you say, once you have it figured it's pretty easy
@mechovan you cant, im afraid if you run out you run out, load up the needle again tie on to the net and carry on, although sometimes if you are only making a small purse net you know that you wil have enough if you fill the needle
great instructions and awesome speaking voice. Thank you for contributing to the youtube community; I was luck to find this video. Can't wait for future videos.
This is actually the begining of a cast net aswell. with that size of mesh you wont really catch small fish, but game fish can usually be caught in a mesh that big
@oceanofdarkstars1 - thanks for the comment, as you know, once you can master the basic knots required, then all sorts of different knots can be made to suit differing situations, might have to make myself a cast net, not that i could use it, but it would be an interesting display piece, thanks for the inspiration
@maveraver your welcome, and if you make it just right you wont need wieghts on it and you can still cast it and It'll open up and catch fish just the same
a really good set of three vids on net making. a much neglected skill i feel. will have to get my needles out and get netting as well something always pops up. :0)
@mazadan Thanks mate, it is a very much neglected skill i feel, i make these all over the place at shows and events, even just up over the hill on a lazy day and people always stop and watch in amazement, almost as if it's a dark art, but hey, if people want to learn, then i'll teach them how to do it
@maveraver great vid... I think I can give it a go now... however, I'd like to make a garden trellis netting with 6" mesh... would holding a 6" spacer be feasible or is there some alternate method better suited to such a large mesh (maybe a 3" spacer and wrap twine around it twice then knot it?

How do you calculate how much cordage to load onto the needle to be sure you don't run out prior to making the net to your desired size?
