I left a less than flattering remark on another Dan Fogelberg video (at times to be honest I think he was a bit of a lightweight...), but there is a real power to this song, especially to the extended interplay between flute and guitar, a pairing that doesn't get near enough play. Well done, sirs.
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
I'm Brazilian! Beautiful Dan, beautiful Tim, beautiful sax Lou, beautiful backvocal Jim, beautufk guitar's Bob . All of them are amazing. But Dan is the best!!
Just noticed Robert playing here. His tribute to Dan, "Over Peoria", is amazing; a must see and hear by JMEagle101. There just will never be a songwriter and musician such as Dan. He remains unsurpassed!
Love this! Dan, Tim, and others ~ absolutely brilliant! It just doesn't get much better than this. All who performed here with Dan, and Dan himself, of course, show their love of music here; and Dan would have it no other way than this performance is: PERFECT!

when I firsrt heard this song kept wanted to say the Power of God and to this day still will want to say that! I love his music have drawn him often but nothing can compare to the real thing.
What a mean guitar Dan Fogelberg plays here. He was just a great leader of any band and may he always be remembered as one of the best musicians of his time.
I will always love Danny "Innocent age" Fogelberg.
Thinking and missing Dan on this day. Looked at my framed copy of his birthday announcement this a.m. and could only smile and give thanks for the legacy of music he left us.
I saw him perfroming at the Alladin in Las Vegas and while he was performing one of his guitar strings broke and cut his eyelid, you would have never known as he completed the song in his usual style. I know I was in the second row and could see the blood running down. He was truely a class act.
Fogelberg rocks!!! He also slinks like the jazziest cat and he goes downdown like The Carter Family. Dan was one of the most diverse artists of the late 70's to bless us with his gifts. Look at who the guy used on his albums ... it'll blow your mind.
I met Dan , of all places, in the Denver Broncos press room after a game in 1984. He was there to meet Steve Watson.
No one but me seemed to know who he was, and we had a great chat. He was a charismatic guy, and as a 101% straight male, I can see why women swooned over the lad. He was a class act in a business where such are diamonds in a septic tank. This is my #1 fave song of his, and I dig this live arrangement.
Saw Fogelberg and Weisberg do this song at Miami University (Ohio) in 1979 ... Wiesberg had the reverb cranked up so high on the flute, he quit playing for about 30 seconds, while the flute reverb jammed on. That was incredible.
Dan Fogelberg was an absolute musical genius. His mixing on recordings was without equal. A virtual story teller set to beautiful musical composition, He has left us with an enduring legacy.
It's okay. Norway is a long way off. He has a staggering body of work. Sold millions upon millions of recordings in 70's 80's 90's. several gold & platinum albums. Has very loyal following of "DANFANS" here in the states. May our minstrel RIP.
Ironically, I was born in Oslo, Norway. I've lived in the States all but two of my 47 years. I love this song and have no doubt that he has a quality body of work. I'll check out some of his other videos. How did he pass?
Prostrate cancer. Discovered way to late to fight. Saw Dan so many times. Last time 2003 at Bass Hall, Fort Worth. Hope you enjoy discovering his works.
Was used by ABC for the song during the 1976 Winter Games in Austria.I remember the late Jim McKay introducing ths song for the downhill skiers when they won the Gold Medal.
No that is not his brother! That is Jim Photoglo. He is a singer/songwriter as Dan. He has written and performed solo as Dan. He still performs solo today. Just saw him a few weeks ago and understood why Dan wanted him to perform with him. He is a extremely talented singer and musican. Listen to him sing the lyrics "power of gold". He is awesome!By the way, How old are you? Only my 13 yr,old daughter says,"this is gay"
Gary and I dont... Fuck you! Dan put out great music that has melody and can make you think. What he did is MUSIC compaired to the SHIT that you hear today....
This song brought tears....this album ( " Twin Sons of a Different Mother" ) was a classic! Dan sure will be missed...what a remarkable talent! ( bowing respectfully )
Real bad english. "a toilet anymore" is missing something up front. You're right of course. Except for Tom Waits, Leila Downs, Junior Brown, Ramblin Jack Eliot, Bjork has had some great moments...The Kodachome Orchestra's Raymond Scott album is amazing....
This is a great piece. Fogelberg was certainly an excllent musician. Wish he had lived longer and produced more music. He's entitled to some mad props. Let's not leave out Tim Weisberg though. He's a mad man on that flute! Has anybody heard "A Party of One?"
there is no way that you will ever run me off of ANYTHING with Dan Fogelberg... You may as well deal with the fact that I will be here for a loooong time... Keep these vids coming... It is still great to see Dan's face still being shown somewhere... THANKS/
I miss him too damnit... I regret not writing to him to tell Dan just how much I loved his songs... He made me feel better about myself as some people look on me like a freak. Having CP can be rough but Dan and his songs bring me peace.. his music should ring out in heaven FOREVER...
these guys did a cover of Santo & Johnny's "Sleep Walk." I have the demo 45 that I picked up at one of the radio stations I've worked for. Incredible version of that great song. I can't believe it was thrown in a trash can.
I have the original LP of Twins Sons of Different Mothers.I unpacked the turntable and slid it on and yes, it's mint! Wow!! I forgot how much I loved this album. Power of Gold was the big hit from the album. Hurtwood Alley is it a really awesome instrumental along with Paris Nocturne. The other song with vocals, Since You've Asked is amazing. With Dan's passing, that song is so bittersweet. Went to Barnes and Noble website, pick up the cd for a great price and had it delivered in two day's.
Why has rock lost its beautiful melody's..it seems like after the 70's n 80's rock became so dark and serious...stuff like this captivates you and makes you move.
People have gotten lazy, they let the computers do all of their "music" for them.
It takes very little talent these days to "make it big". The music and talent does'nt seem to exist anymore. It's a real shame that is why pre-1985 music is so much better than all of the new stuff.
orthopolus77: (if I didn't know better, I would think that your username comes from Greek..), however, you are correct in your points. People have let computers do all the writing for them. Even though I work for a tech company, the more I see the stuff the more I look forward to retirement and not using it. (I plan to retire and live on my sailboat called "The Argo". )
Not only was Dan such an accomplished singer, songwriter, and musician but also a very good artist. Much of the art work on his albums was done by Dan, such as his debut album's self portrait!
Dan made a big impact on my life and my own music. I'm 26 and starting a band in Virginia. I hope that one day I can affect one person as much as Dan has millions of people.
We're glad to hear that. One important thing about Dan is that the music always came first. He never tried to compromise the spirit of his music for trends or appeasing critics or media. And here we are 35 years later we listen to 'To the Morning' like we just pulled the LP out and put it on the turntable for the first time this evening. I love a lot of music, but nothing like Dan. I played in a lot of bands and it is hard to get everyone's head in the same direction, but love the music...
I was lucky enough to see Dan twice, the last being in Dec. 1978, with the "Twin Sons" tour, in Toledo, Ohio. Although I often have trouble remembering what I had for lunch yesterday, or the date of my anniversary, I CLEARLY remember Weisberg cranking up about a half-minute reverb/delayed note on his flute during the show. Then, at the end of the song after the applause died down, Dan walks to the mic, looks at Weisberg and simply says, "Showoff." HUGE laughs!!!
Thank you so much for these videos! It is still amazing to see Dan perform live. He had so much talent, no one can compare. I miss him and always will.
So many great memories from college with this album. I will never forget this one. Dan was quite the rocker! I listened to this one and Nether Lands so much in college. Nancy (Indiana)
I heard Graham Nash along with Joe Walsh on Larry King and they spoke about the death of their friend Dan with much love and compassion. Danny was a class act all the way. We will miss you Dan.
Excellent version live--THE BEST. Dan is the man & will be missed. His 2-CD live set with this song is superlative (a must-have for true fans). Thanks, Dan.
...the women are lovely, the wine is superb but there's something about the song that disturbs you.... nobody's writing lyrics like that anymore. Bye Dan, thanks for making the seventies that much better.

Nice to see this. One of my favorite albums from the 70s. Twin Sons of Different Mothers.
Rest in Peace Dan.
