Oh I know! Lets give them puppies, ice cream and hugs! Maybe that will get them to tell us what they know. LoL This is hardly torture, I wouldn't want it done to me, but I assure it doesn't by NOT trying to kill people. These things are irritations that when used over a long period of time will cause a person to say, "Ya know what, knock it off and I'll tell you what you want!" Unless of course they don't know anything lol then that kinda sucks for them.

Messickrd if you feel that these action are not really that bad i would be more than happy to adminster, torture doesnt have to be life threating. Phsyco pain can be worst than phys. Like having your heart broken...
We do here in America,it's called sheriff Joe and his 2,000 inmates living outside in a barbed-wire-surrounded encampment at the Maricopa county jail in Arizona. These prisoners are forced to wear only pink boxer shorts, pink socks, use pink towels that are soaked with sweat from the prisoners, fed bologna sandwiches only, and live in tents that reach 138 degrees inside. They are forced to work and live in extremly harsh conditions outside.Being inhumane doesn't solve issues.
Watching this video was "torture" in my mind...It inflicted "Psychological damage on me". Are you willing to say I should get money from you for displaying this stuff to me? How much are you going to send me? My mind is bothered by this mental torture...I want money...How much are you worth? I want ALL of it. My mind will never be the same after this visual TORTURE!!! What's the difference, I might ask, of what I request, and your definition of "Torture"? I want some money. Send it NOW!
How could this NOT be justified? No procedure I saw was life threatening or even brutal. They are psychologically disturbing and irritating at best to the recipient. Everyday, US military and law enforcement endure training far more streinous and psychologically demanding than these so called "torture" methods, which would make "stress positions" look like yoga class. But I'm sure whoever thinks THIS is "torture" wouldn't know anything about that.
How could this NOT be justified? No procedure I saw was life threatening or even brutal. They are psychologically disturbing and irritating at best to the recipient. OMG, that was nasty. What scares me most is that many americans think this is justified. Come on ppl, wake up! America is supposed to show higher values than their enemies, not the opposite
How can anyone defend any 'method of interrogation' used by the Spanish Inquisition? Just because there are no marks left by torture, it still counts as torture. I don't agree with the actions of those who are being tortured at all, but they are still owed due process. If we torture because our enemies torture, what does that make us?
I agree with patjc15. In war, moral high ground does not win. My father has served in the military for 21 years. And know this when our people military or civilians are captured they are not living comfortably neither. I dont fully support torture. But unless you have another means of getting intel to help. I dont see any other choice.
PHRvideo your videos are typical of the mindless hate America First folks. Pouring water up someones nose for 30 seconds cause NO HARM what so ever. None. And it has saved lives. "In the case of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed," said Ross, "the information was very valuable, particularly names and addresses of people who were involved with al Qaeda in this country.
Where is out outrage at the quran instructions to behead non-muslims??!! Hypocrites each and every one of you.
and you realize you're defending a method of interrogation not proven in any circumstances to produce AUTHENTIC truth from a torture victim, as well as a government that tortured people after explicitly stated that it does not engage in torture. but of course, you people don't care that the administration lied, only that it serves your narrow interests.
obviously, you are not aware of the decades (and perhaps centuries) of research that shows that torture DOES NOT GET PEOPLE TO TELL THE TRUTH. but of course, you don't care what the truth is, do you?
What can a country stand up for if they endorse torture? What is your moral high-ground? When countries look to you for leadership what will they see? Conversely, when countries look to criticize you, they are provided with ample evidence that you do not follow the very morals you would demand from them. Human rights apply to all humans. How can we expect other countries to heed these principles when we do not?
jeff5683, how about the hundreds of thousands of civilians we have killed, or the fact that we have stripped our country of all its defenses? How about the fact that the torturing happened AFTER 9/11, and would have done nothing to prevent it anyway?
Who cares if Taliban soldiers are getting tortured? Whenever they felt like it they tortured and executed an american and VIDEOTAPED IT and sent it to them. Its just wrong. They torture americans all the time and they never made any law about it.
it was inevitable; every single country does some form of torture, so its not like that all of a sudden USA is the next nazi regime, and at least we don't use physical torture!(and waterboarding is psychological, not physical, becuase it does not physically hurt them in any way)
Hey physicians for human rights. Waterboarding is not torture! It's very lame compared to the tactics used by islamic extremists!
Maybe when we question terrorists we should just ask them nicely for the info that we seek on who blew up this or who flew a plane into that on US soil, future attacks etc!!! I'm sure they would just give us the info we seek w/ out hesitation huh! yea right! They want to kill all Americans! Plain and simple! They hate us and hate what the US stands for!
The person who created this video? If you say that all these methods are torture, what would you propose we do to get information that is needed for national security? Ask them nicely because if we hurt their feelings, that is torture. How would you secure this nation and gain intel? You have the luxury of creating a video that puts down our practices, without the burden of enforcing or protecting life.
The most effective method of obtaining useful intel. has always been, is, and will always be the purchase of it combined with a well funded system of spying. it's cheaper in the end.
As for the question of torture... Well, that is just monotheists doing what they do best.
"if you are guilty", keywords there. that is determined by a court of law, which these people arent privy to. oops. take that foot outta your mouth buddy.
Torture? I think not. These are just complex behavior modification/persuasion techniques which encourage forthrightness and compliance from an otherwise stubborn intelligence source. I say give them the (24) Jack Bauer Field Manuals to CIA operatives to see how fast the information starts flowing! Better yet reissue the SOA manuals which were used during Operation Condor in Latin America. Nothing like a few "helicopter rides" and "open sea swimming lessons" to get detanees to talk.
i dunno cos i think that, that form of torture is effective, no marks, psychological damage that could be treated with counciling, compare that to al-qaeda torture which mentaly destroyes and physicaly cripples, now tell me, which is more humane
Idiot liberals. When a Muslim kidnaps a US Soldier in Iraq and they mutilate him/her with scapels and blowtorchs before they finally cut their heads off with a knife,do you think they say, "Gee it's inhumane to torture a human being?". No.
a very good overview of the range of tortures being used by the United States of America. Please consider that we know this has a terrible effect on those who are changed with carrying this cruelty out and on those who witness it and the outcomes and lasting ill effects. John McCain and POWS insist that these techniques are NOT effective and should not be part of the arsenal of a just people -
Stress positions, sleep depervation and threats our part of basic training in the military. KMS's "friends" wouldnt give him up after 2 weeks of "torture" of questioning in the clinic. Ahhh, but after a reported 35 seconds of waterboarding, both told his exact location. They were die hard fanitics, but 35 seconds? Fucking pussy. That is one cycle, they could have done much worse then to provoke the systoms of being under water.
Wouldn't the world be a nicer place if we could kill everyone we were afraid of? Alas, those of us with moral values will just have to live with the fact that we might die someday.
"Quasi" torture at best. It's almost 2008. Isn't there a drug out there that you could use?? Maybe that'll satisfy all the bleeding hearts out there enjoying their freedom while others have paid or are paying for their "rights".
Hey, whatever we gotta do to stay ahead of the bad guys, let's do it. You would use whatever means necessary to protect your own wife and kids (including torturing their kidnappers or those who threatened to murder them). Well - voila - these guys are threatening your wife and kids. I say, "Thank God our government cares enough about us to protect us like this." God bless the USA!!!
Yep, kennyandjo, and once the lines start to blur from between enemy combatants, and U.S. citizens, that is when it becomes apparent that you could possibly be tortured as well. Welcome to Pre-Fascist America.
Pour water over victims face but don't let water get in the wind pipe. Cover with cellophane, rag, towel etc. Keep pouring long enough for gag reflex. Then ask pointless questions until they lie their ass off about the information desired... Its a technique for poorly educated para-military types... They were bullies in high school - "stop hitting yourself!" - remember???
We always tortured... its as old as the bible. But it never really works. The CIA tortured a Russian spy in a makeshift jail for 3 years and never got one word of verifiable truth out of him. He was preprogrammed with false memories. Dubya' is just listening to his poppa who used to run the CIA... One neophyte to another... waterboarding is for thugs and knuckle dragger para-military types... Its more revenge then intelligence gathering IMO...
So being waterboarded is not torture? If you are brought to a point just before you will die of drowning, that isn't torture? Fine then you go through it under uncontrolled conditions and see what your opinion is then you heartless disgrace for a human being. Not all these people have committed crimes, have you forgotten that?
no no no...wait ..to continue this he said she said they did we do..arguement is over.the facts are this.thier are americans being held without trail and being treated in this manor.our goverment knew about the attacks ..our intel departments had all the info.thats how you know things..sadly we cant trust intel anymore. recently we have Israel convicted of esponage with buddies in our goverment that send them billions of dollars and free weapons and armor ...
Please keep the conversation civil. We welcom diversity of opinion, but comments that use profanity or engagee in ad hominem attacks wil be deleted. While discussions of torture policy may involve discussion of violence, comments that advocate specific violent acts will also be deleted.
The U.S. government has engaged in torture long before 9/11. Amnesty International has long offically protested "isolation" units/ special prisons for political prisoners.
The FBI through COINTELPRO endorsed assasination and torture of the Black Panther Party and other groups. Read the case of the San Francisco 8, Dhoruba bin Wahad, Geronimo Pratt, Angela Davis and many more.
Slavery -- and torture against rebel slaves persists.
FBI assassination? Wha... wha... now? Where are you getting this stuff from? Angela Davis is still alive and is a professor at some U.S. university! COINTELPRO was just arguably illegal surveillance no torture or killing folks - jeez!
I went through most of this. Was I in a custody by the CIA? No, I was in basic training with the United States Army. I agree that bona-fide torture must be banned but having this wide of a view of torture just dillutes the real meaning of the word. Stress positions do not constitute torture. Does it suck? Yes. Will you even care once they let you return back to your room? Nope. You won't even remember it. I the method usefull in interogations? Yes!
Yeah the rack, the iron maiden, yeah let's bring back Tomas De Torqamada (Catholic church's head torturer and Grand Inquisitor)... Oops sorry we already did with Alberto Gonzales! Didn't work then either...
These are not acts of patriotism but of desperation. The historical odds are about 85 per cent against our winning this conflict, we will run out of money to fight this war in about four more years, "search and destroy" tactics have never really worked; and how can some 25,000 mostly illiterate, poverty-stricken religious freaks hope to run a modern nation, end the thirteen centuries old Shitte/Sunni conflict, then go on to spread terrorism world-wide??--Tom Reilly
scotpens, I gather from your recent post on extreme rendition that you would accept the use of these techniques as not torture if they were used by the terrorists and insurgents on our people in Iraq and Afghanistan. I'm sure our people in harms way will be glad to hear of your concern for their welfare.
"Stress positions" (making people stand in weird poses) are torture? Photographing people in humiliating positions is torture? THREATS of harm are torture?
To call such acts "torture" cheapens the word. It's a slap in the face to those who've endured REAL torture. Talk to the Vietnam POWs who were interned at the infamous Hanoi Hilton if you want to know what real torture is.
VNVet POWs were tortured to make them give into anti-U.S. propaganda not for troop strength, names, dates, etc. It was old Chinese techniques involving tiger cages, food deprivation, fingernail torture, water drip, etc. The EIT program at Camp X-Ray and others worldwide are IMO vicious. We aren't being told everything. I think its mainly testosterone-driven revenge exercises as how long can you detain somebody and expect current actionable intelligence? Duh???
Bush has cost America her good name in the eyes of the world! Bush has made all Americans a target! Bush has taken the rights away from Americans, using lies and fear propaganda! Bush/Co have committed WAR CRIMES under the guise of protecting US and in OUR name! It is time to make them accountable under OUR LAWS! America is supposed to be a country governed by laws, if our leaders are not accountable to those laws, then America is no longer a democracy!
This video is a wake-up call for all of those that sit, watch, wait and complain, but do NOTHING! It's time for YOU to get involved with organizations that are fighting for peace, social justice and human rights. YOU CAN MAKE AN IMPACT, ONLY IF YOU GET INVOLVED! SO LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD!
Yes, the US tortures and George Bush should be prosecuted, along with Dick Cheney and Don Rumsfeld for his crimes against humanity.
At the same time, the music bed for this video is pretty weak; slightly arousing military music seems to me a poor aesthetic choice. Stronger, more instructive could have been used to illustrate the narrative, too.
Still, while some physicians and psychologists help the US government torture people, PHR is doing great work, which we should all support.
These atrocities all came about in the wake of the 9/11 attack. Americans still haven't been told the truth about how and why this attack came about. I am definitely NOT a "controlled demolition" conspiracy "theorist." I have had a great deal of experience in funded professional research. I invite readers to start reviewing my evidence. Just click on my name to see a video of Tenet telling a 9/11 lie and follow the links from there.
@096578
Great idea...why don´t teachers use it on first graders if somebody wrote "Timmy is gay" on the blackboard ?
I hope you were kidding...
In case there is an unsolved murder with no suspects at all,who should be waterboarded to find the killer? A psychic?

So being waterboarded is not torture? If you are brought to a point just before you will die of drowning, that isn't torture? Fine then you go through it under uncontrolled conditions and see what your opinion is then you heartless disgrace for a human being. Not all these people have committed crimes, have you forgotten that?

The U.S. government has engaged in torture long before 9/11.
Slavery -- and torture against rebel slaves persists.
cybergrace7 4 years ago

Yes!

I am disgusted with our government reaction to 9-11, the FACT that no Iraqi attacked us. I doubly disturbed by Islamic maniacs.
chewbaca1989 4 years ago
funny how some brain dead people and kids are still crying "....oh, remember 9/11 ?"
Well, most of these prisoners are from Iraq, and they have nothing to do with 9/11.
Bush said that himself remember? That he lied about WMD's? That Iraq had no ties with Terrorism?
about 700 or so of inmates been there and have been tortured for about 5 years now, i think only 10 have been charged, its just sad.
Shameful

Good point FlatBlackRose... "What's good for the goose is good for the gander!" Quid pro quo - turnabout is fair play...

"Stress positions" (making people stand in weird poses) are torture? Photographing people in humiliating positions is torture? THREATS of harm are torture?
To call such acts "torture" cheapens the word. It's a slap in the face to those who've endured REAL torture. Talk to the Vietnam POWs who were interned at the infamous Hanoi Hilton if you want to know what real torture is.
scotpens 4 years ago
