In NH, it's 15 feet...you get out of the car, get 15 feet from the road, aside from getting 300 feet from occupied buildings and such, you have a safe direction of course. Im a huge poacher. never buy fishing lisences or hunting lisences or any of that shit. I do not need to pay the state for my god given right to feed myself with wildlife that is not owned by anyone. A buddy of mine is a warden in Texas. He tells a tale that one evening they were conducting a similar sting and the redneck in question knew it was a decoy. He exited his truck, walked up behind the deer, dropped his pants and mounted the thing, laughing the whole time. They wanted to give him a ticket for abuse of state property, but the guy was just too funny and likable. Try that next time you see a decoy, you will be famous or infamous.

By far, most hunters take the sport seriously, and follow their common sense. But it only takes one know it all fool to kill a person minding their own business driving down the road, or walking their own property. I walked around my place last weekend and found a 170 class 10 point and a carcass thrown into the brush with its antlers sawed off. I've spent thousands of dollars on these deer and it's a slap in the face for some asshole to drive by at night with a spotlight.

You can seriously hunt with a .25ACP pocket pistol and remain within the law...but if you and your $2,000 deer rifle happen to shoot a buck whose antlers are an eighth of an inch too narrow (and, of course, you're supposed to ask the deer to stand still while you whip out your tape measure and check its antlers), your rifle gets confiscated and you pay fines, civil "animal replacement restitution", etc.

Diseases spread rapidly here, like CWD. We also have a lot of coyotes, and when the deer get sick, the coyotes will eat them ALIVE. They die so painfully, it's sad. Trust me, man, I love deer! Killing them is not the best part of the hunt, for sure. I just love being out there! I don't kill them to be mean.

I think my thoughts on this has changed... I know a guy that got caught doing it last week. Never woulda thought he woulda done something like that. Catch'em all and throw the book at'em. You also have to look at it this way though...What if this guy lost his job,has no income and has to feed his family? If he don't put meat on the table his kids don't eat? I think game and fish should harvest so many deer have them processed and give the meat to needy families.

A buddy of mine is a warden in Texas. He tells a tale that one evening they were conducting a similar sting and the redneck in question knew it was a decoy. He exited his truck, walked up behind the deer, dropped his pants and mounted the thing, laughing the whole time. They wanted to give him a ticket for abuse of state property, but the guy was just too funny and likable. Try that next time you see a decoy, you will be famous or infamous.

If any of you people have had dumb bubbas shoot wildly onto your property, you might not have such a negative view of this story. By far, most hunters take the sport seriously, and follow their common sense. But it only takes one know it all fool to kill a person minding their own business driving down the road, or walking their own property. I've had people shoot onto my land blindly, and my sister has had people shoot into her property. The hunters aren't bad, they just don't think.

I walked around my place last weekend and found a 170 class 10 point and a carcass thrown into the brush with its antlers sawed off. I've spent thousands of dollars on these deer and it's a slap in the face for some asshole to drive by at night with a spotlight.

Wildlife cops are punks, and the laws are absolutely retarded where we hunt. You can seriously hunt with a .25ACP pocket pistol and remain within the law...but if you and your $2,000 deer rifle happen to shoot a buck whose antlers are an eighth of an inch too narrow (and, of course, you're supposed to ask the deer to stand still while you whip out your tape measure and check its antlers), your rifle gets confiscated and you pay fines, civil "animal replacement restitution", etc.
It's a game.

@assman12354 Deer are amazing! I love to sit and study them. We only do it for food, though it is fun. We all have a hunter inside of us, man. Sadly, there are lots of them. Diseases spread rapidly here, like CWD. We also have a lot of coyotes, and when the deer get sick, the coyotes will eat them ALIVE. They die so painfully, it's sad. Trust me, man, I love deer! Killing them is not the best part of the hunt, for sure. I just love being out there! I don't kill them to be mean.

I think my thoughts on this has changed... I know a guy that got caught doing it last week. Never woulda thought he woulda done something like that. Catch'em all and throw the book at'em. You also have to look at it this way though...What if this guy lost his job,has no income and has to feed his family? If he don't put meat on the table his kids don't eat? I think game and fish should harvest so many deer have them processed and give the meat to needy families.

They are not trying to stop folks from shooting from their cars...they are trying to GET people to shoot from them. The game officer should be fined for entrapment. I've hunted since I was 5 and I've always followed the rules. There is never a good reason to try to entice someone to break the rules and in doing so reveals the character of the game officers in that state.If they catch some one shooting a live deer from a truck then throw his ass in jail but trying to MAKE THEM DO IT IS LOW.

Whether it's a vice cop disguised as a prostitute or ATF officer buying dope, the person caught would still hire a prostitute or sell dope whether the other party was a cop or not. If it had been a real deer and the DNR officer hadn't been there, the person still would have taken the shot. Maybe next time the person who gets caught will think twice about firing at a tempting but illegal target.
