I'm surprised to hear someone say this 12 is that rare...I did not think that at all. I've had a couple of extra copies and pretty much had to give them away. Wicked wicked tune nonetheless.
1984....my first trip to California. At this point in life, it was the only place in the West to get "New Wave Music". I heard this song on 106.7 KROQ with Jed the Fish. I ended up moving to So-Cal and enjoyed all of the best music on KROQ. God Bless all of the great DJs in that time....Freddie Snakeskin....Ramando....April....Richard Blade....Poorman....and you Jed!!
@shaunsk Only thing shit about was the 80s was Morrissey mate, at least the early 80s. It all turned to shit when him and his retro-rocking idiots got going
This is what my beloved Cabaret Voltaire would have sounded like if they hadn't been allergic to melody! Great track by an almost forgotten band or so I had thought. Glad to see I was wrong. For those that are interested they have just released a brand new album titled Blanc burn. Really!
after hours on kroq, dusty street, richard blade, kevin and bean ,rodney on the roq in the san fer valley at the sherman oaks galleria, sportin the new wave flips of hollywood tank now thats old skool.
He,he,he .... yes indeed - Rodney Bingenheimer, Jed the Fish and Freeze Disease .... the 321 Club in Santa Monica and The Palace in Hollywood and the best music in the world ... :)
I'm an 80's music fan, been since I was born I guess ;-)
What a joy is to find a "new" band which I hadn't heard before until I saw one commercial with the song Living on the ceiling, and from that I started browsing other songs by Blancmange. LOVING IT!!! This song is a masterpiece!
One of the best UK 12 inch remixes of the early 80's.I can still get my groove on to this. They had a sound that was more organic, funky and multiculturalism aware than many of the synth/ futurist bands around at that time.Awesome shit-thanks for posting!
Still a remarkable song after this many years. I have not found it anywhere for download. Indie 103 came close but there will never be another KROQ or another explosion of creativity like punk and new wave. R.I.P.
I lived in L.A. during the last half of the 80's and KROQ was indeed the greatest Alternative station ever. I lived in San Diego when this was released and it was hourly for several months. I have the 12" vinyl and wouldn't part with it for anything.
If you're a 80's KROQ-er, the have a separate stream for just the 80's at their online site.
Music is pretty dead these days, that's for sure. Interpol is about the last alternative band I've faved ....
What a great band! I loved hearing their songs on the radio. For some reason they remind me of summer time. I agree with some other commentors - the song still sounds great. Just proves good music never sounds dated, no matter the technology used to create it.
the other important thing for fans of this great track is that in the mid 80s I saw in a UK records import catalogue an advertisement for a promotional 12" of Blind Vision that contained three versions - the standard 9minute 12" mix, the standard 7" version but also another version about 6 and a half minutes long - anyone ever heard that mix? if you've got it, please post it. i neglected to order it and have wondered for 25 years what it's like!
a video for this 12" mix? that would be great. one of the most masterful 12" mixes ever made. owned the 12" since released in 83. among many things, one of the things i love about it is how the intro keeps alternating between cold vs funky (0.09 - 0.50). love the bass grunt at 0.24. classic track from a great band. produced lots of great stuff, tho i feel they let their interest in mellow pop get too much control towards the end, should have kept pursuing that cold funk groove a bit more.
1. How long before this pops up in an ad for male sexual enhancement pills?
2. Was there even a video for the extended version? The drugs hadn't taken effect on me in the eighties and I don't remember there being a video for this. In fact as I remember it videos for extended versions of most songs were very rare, few and far between...
I remember the year 1982 or there abouts. Driving in my buddy's VW with a gallon of OJ and Vodka. Next stop at the Odessy on Beverly Bl. Great times. No worries, just pass the courses at college.
Where's my freaking pea coat when I need it!!!! If this song don't make you shake your ass, you've got serious issues!!!! Top-notch stuff! Thanks for posting....

I love this song, I grew up in LA and they used to play it alot on KROQ. I don't know what happened to music since then, each decade it seems to get worse than the last.
it makes a comeback, but in television adverts, still, atleast now my sister likes some real music "living on the ceiling", it used to be lily allen and all the other crap, now she listens to anything from Elvis Costello to Simply Red!
@joedope00 I feel ya! truly! I grew up on KROQ. what has happened to quality alternative with depth. like awesome new romantic, new wave was. Duran Duran had so much more sound quality, writing quality and depth, then who they toss out as any sort of boy band today.
@joedope00 Brother you got that right! I used to listen to KROQ in the 80's (not so much lately), and I remember this song well. One of my old favorites.
