  • These comments and this video are based mostly on feeling and little fact. The original was based on well documented facts. First check her facts (and it would help to check yours too!) THEN do your line-by-line counter argument, instead of this poorly constructed critique that belies would appeal to only a specific demographic of the wealthy.

  • this bitch hates freedom...

  • The comment about the "one little piece" with regard to the computer was risible. That one little piece (given she means the CPU) requires a new front side buss, and a whole host of other controllers to make it work when it is changed out. How can anyone take anything else she says seriously after a major mistake like that?

  • Gold mining waste is just washed rocks and gravel.... How will we survive with all of those mountains of rinsed rocks piling up???

  • This woman honestly makes me want to kill myself. I will never understand leftists, they have no clue of economic theory. I'm not a supporter of the Republican party, but the Democrats have obliterated domestic industry with overreaching regulations. Both parties collude and spend more, on warfare and welfare respectively. A debasement of the currency is soon to follow.

  • @ImhoffInstruments "This woman honestly makes me want to kill myself."

I know what you mean lol. She's so annoying. Some women should really stay in the kitchen...

  • So true about consumer goods. I love my Kitchenaid mixer and Vitamix. They cost a bunch but they'll probably outlive me.

  • 7:45 Lmao wtf???? How stupid is she?

  • I remember watching this in 7th grade science

  • Ahem she never said it was bad to shop besides our current system actually forces us to do it, because in that time we needed it. Second she was talking generally about the grievance and stuff man...

  • "leftist"... yeah... right... the world is changing, old and obsolete worldviews are left behind all times.. and your indoctrination system is going to be history pretty soon.. you live in the sixties

  • Well, what did we learn? Simply that old 'cause before effect' chestnut.

I believe x, so hey lets go find spurious fact y to support that!

Sure we live in a consumer economy, sure it was designed and spearheaded by early of PR firms. [Those would be the central planners of this particular shift in a "free" market.]

Then again these videos are glossing over incredibly complex issues in the simplest way possible. So they'll be heavy colored by agenda. Great work figuring that out. I guess.

  • She is extremely ignorant ... I just ... no, people like this make it to adulthood now? "Planned obsolescence?" Just, no ... and since when can't you upgrade the CPU? Usually a motherboard can handle three or more CPU upgrades, and then you can just swap out the motherboard, refurbishers do it all the time, it's where I buy my computers! Yep, almost all my tech, recycled.

  • As a sociopath I couldn't agree more with this analysis. Really top rate... I mean come on who gives a fuck about the 3rd world..? If they are too dumb to evolve out of the swamp I guess we'll have to show them how. Of course we should gain something from it aswell fair is fair afterall. You see how this works? Good now fetch me a beer and get back to fucking work before I dock you a days wages you lazy fucker.

  • I am so tired of hearing the reactionary false rebuttal "in the soviet union, there was no choice .... in the soviet union there was famine ... in the soviet union everything was shit ... " ad nauseum. Every time someone makes a valid criticism of the status quo, (as in shoes here)the conservative will equate that criticism with evil, die-hard, communist stalin-worship. It's like the people who resort to equating any form of interrogation of race with evil nazi murderous genocide. It's childish.

  • it's not its

    3:52

  • Please don't use "third world" as a description. Do some research on the word before you use it.

  • I actually pissed myself laughing when she said the only thing that changes every year in a computer each year is a tiny piece in the corner...

  • 1:19 what exactly do you mean by ''America is the wealthiest nation in the world''

The fact that America is the richest nation in the world, is true.

But you don't use that money for the welfare of your own people.

From an HDI report from 2008 it says your nr 12. Finland is a wealthier country than America.

1 in 8 people in America are with out a job. Pretty shitty water, that's why you drink soda and milk all the fucking time. People pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for health care.

  • @williammoller9 Americans have higher incomes, higher material standard of living, consume more and more opportunities than where you come from. I mean in America, poor people are obese for god's sake.

  • @GunsNRosesbitches If you were to take every American's income and spread them equally then the average American would be richer than the average Swede. That's why in the HDI reports it seems like you're better off. In reality the average American lives to be 78,5 and the average swede lives to be 81,4 years old.

I'm pretty sure your middle class is dieing off. Vast majority is going to become lower class citizens and some are going to be elevated to upper class citizens.

  • @williammoller9 Well considering that in America, people are more obese and have more health complications, there is a higher crime rate, many more people die in car accidents etc., it is no wonder that the average lifespan of an American is lower than a Swede. Just because we have a lower average lifespan than the average Swede doesn't mean Swedes necessarily have a higher living standard than we do. It's due to other factors, particularly American culture and lifestyle.

  • the Rule in this place is no longer build the better mouse trap.

The new rule is - The one with the money wins.

    no competition

    no struggling start up

just pay for it and you win.

Street cars were the greatest thing for society but GM could see that people would not buy cars if they had a reliable public transit system.

It makes me sick to think that there are people who believe competition still exists under this capitalist state. Or if you will - Monitary dictatorship

  • Competition can no longer function under capitalism. Here is another example of why.

General Motors streetcar conspiracy. Google it

It describes how GM and friends bought up hundreds of cable car systems and SCRAPPED THEM. how can anyone compete with that kind of money. They did this so that they could create a market for busses with the engines they made. Fair? Competition? Best product for society?

  • Planned obsolescence and monopoly type organizations have KILLED competition. You are naiev to think that a better product will succeed under capitalism.

    Here is one example

The great american light bulb conspiracy: This is a perfect example of "the end of competition" on this planet. There is a light bulb that has been burning nonstop since 1909. If any company produced a bulb that lasted longer than 1000 hours – they were finned. google it. it is well documented and common knowledge.

  • @tzmdomeguy "google it. it is well documented and common knowledge." THan why do we need to google it?

  • @coverchenko But...Your profile says you live in the USA..So ALL the people you know do the same thing but US consumers are too stupid to do the same thing? Yeah that makes sense to me!!! LOL

  • Reading back through the comments make me really think... do ppl still believe on the "zionism conspiracy"? ._x

  • @AkaiTsukiShimitsu rational people believe that everyone or almost everyone conspires when it is in their best interest to do so, i know ive conspired plenty of times in my life.

  • @xcvsdxvsx Correction: Paranoic ppl believe that everyone or almost everyone conspires.

  • @AkaiTsukiShimitsu that is a true but in no way refutes my statement.

  • "She was thrifty because she was broke." LOL

  • this is a great critique awsome rebuttals. I agree 100%

  • I really appreciate your quality critique of this indoctrination video. I knew something was fishy about this video when our earth science teacher showed it to us.

One thing I would really appreciate from you: Since Annie provides footnotes linking to where she gets her facts, and you hold her to the standard that she needs to prove her statements, I think that you should provide links to sources that prove your claims.

  • @moARRgan Yeah, man, you should. There isn't links saying where you got the info.

  • @coverchenko service as well...

  • Good job Lee!

  • So, I guess all the commenters here are gonna ignore the part where she claims computers aren't made to be upgraded... that you have to throw the whole thing out every year or so.

  • She should be naked if she is against shopping and consuming.. Those clothes look toxic!

    Damn communists

  • Hey, guess what? I have a monitor from 199-fucking-7 because it was expertly made and made to last. But I also have an Android Galaxy SII on the way to my house because I want a great phone. I am choosing what I want and don't want to throw out and the evil corporations can't stop me, because in this free, capitalistic society, big business doesn't actually have any more freedom and willpower than I do.

  • Liberal here, that computer argument was such bullshit.

  • I like the video, but the consumer culture is a real thing. There may not be any central planners but marketers do work to convince people to throw old things out and buy more stuff. Also, sadly we don't have a true free market.

  • I wonder what the difference in energy efficiency is between her current clunky monitor and the new one. Seems to me it wouldn't make that old monitor look so good.

  • @THEmuteKi Well The old CRT monitors consume Pretty much the same power.

  • what about adam smith and yes we should produce less and consume in a more efficcient less

  • This wall is trolling with dirty unwashed liberals, it's gross

  • she is exagerating all the facts of the problems from free market capitalism but you cannot be so blind to say that it is the most susteinable humankind can make

  • @guanaguacoa It actually really is you need research this buddy, no other economic system is self sustainable

  • America=welthiest nation? your`re fucking kiding?

  • America is rich off the backs of slaves. Right now we have paid slavery for the majority of the population. Production has gone up while middle class wages are stagnant or going down. The U.S. has 1 of the largest income inequality societies in the world. Our consumption is leading us to debt. Economics in this country and around the world has to change. This video is misleading. Check out this book by Richard Heinberg - The End Of Growth

  • Why is this series getting so many bad comments?

A lot of these bones you guys have to pick with Capitalism are really effects of Corporatism, not true Capitalism. There is nothing wrong with buying things as long as you pay the debt off. The problem is buying shit on credit and not being able to pay it back. And crony capitalists made easy credit attractive.

  • @theyeti101101 Because they are dummy liberals thats why. Need I say more?

  • @AroundSun

They clog up the internet like nobody's business. Just like the comments section on every digg.com post.

  • @theyeti101101 I know, they scream their well intended rants about saving everyone and taxing everyone without dissecting the economy and looking at the actions and results of their propositions. They don't believe in unintended consequences and have no idea how the economy works. Why it grows, or how it falls. Most think that you can change the control in an experiment without adverse effects. They fail to realize that we all agree on the end goal and the WHAT, but not the HOW.

  • People please Stop naging about Hitler. He is dead, he lose. He assumed that aryans are superior "Master Race", and can overthrow jewish yoke. Well... they tried and failed. That proves that they were wrong.

  • Consumerism is out of control in America hence the reason they are in deep debt. Americans are idiots when it comes to money management. Would you spend more money than you earn? When given choice, some people make stupid choices. Unfortunately some of these people have started to work in the US congress.

  • 5:20

    ENTIRE MALE POPULATION?

    -canned laughter-

you lie almost as much as her

  • @cyberdemon107 " We took our entire male population and BASICALLY sent them oversees" The first half isn't the action, the last half is, so he was saying basically, because a large majority was taken and put oversees to fight (Unless you don't believe in history). If the basic wasn't there, it would be a lie, but because it said basic, it was slightly a joke plus truth. try again

  • @cyberdemon107 Between the ages of 18 and 25 pretty much

  • bravo

  • Claiming that ads are there simply "to make us aware of goods and services" makes you sound really naive.

,,,Or so desperate to object every single point she raises that you pretend to be such.

  • oh god dalnit is it realy that hard to find someone in the comments who has more than half a brain cell

  • your shoes look ugly so because i said that you are forced to go buy new ones. ya that makes sense. stop caring what other people think be yourself. dont be what people want you to be. be who you want to be. unless you want to be a mass murderer. that might not be a good idea

  • Comment removed

  • @AlexShrugged and ur an ignorant for the comment u made :)

  • you fail to be reasonable. by making it seem like she is completely wrong in everything she says is not a good way to argue your point (if you have a point)

  • @awolikesguitars - But she is wrong in very point she makes. She has a flawed conclusion, and uses lies and half-truths to get there.

When someone is attempting to accomplish something horrible, are you bound to agree with them a little? Would you do this for the haulocaust? For slavery? For Stalinism?

  • Choice means diversity (in the evolution of products), but also a lot of waste (losers during evolution).

A little more thinkers pulling on one string instead of fighting each other with patents and licenses would really help, wouldn't it?

  • There is no They? What do you know about collective thinking?

  • 9:57 Yeah, we get millions of choices of shit we don't need. Yet when it comes to our biggest duty as citizens (voting) we get 2 shitty choices. Don't tell me we have choice. Yeah for what? Fucking ice cream?

  • Wow Lee, you created numerous misconceptions in this video.

  • If this "Story of Shit" video ISN'T indoctrination, then I don't know what is.

  • @murdock283 Which way?? What she is saying or the correct things he is saying??? hmmmmm

  • Capitalism is completely fucking planned you imbecile. If it wasn't planned then how would companies know if they would profit. Why are corporate profits, at record highs when unemployment is so humungous, and wages and productivity are stagnant. THEY ARE GAMING THE SYSTEM. Open your eyes!!

  • @dfg93353 Calling someone an imbecile and then getting all of your assertions wrong hardly showers you with glory. Capitalism isn't planned by definition. Companies DON'T know they will profit; many fail and others experience significant losses during economic downturns (the record profits comment is factually wrong). And total compensation (including benefits) has continually and substantially risen - no stagnation at all. The facts are against you.

  • @dfg93353 It's called research! They research items to see if they will be profitable!

  • Central planners in a market economy are corporations who buy politicians. there is no such fucking thing as a FREE MARKET!

  • It is true that we have become a nation of consumers. The American government doesn't want the industralization of America. The American Government especially President Obama, states that the United States doesn't need manufacturing jobs, we are a consumer society, so just buy more.

  • The whole 1% thing is when she officially loses credibility

  • Wow. So I guess we can't figure out how to upgrade our own computers.

  • @Commingforyou

Yeah right. Thats why Intel changes the socket from 1156 to 1155 cuz they need to do it since one more pin would ruin the data transfer :) Or same with AGP to PCI Xpress. They just change it to get you buy the new one. If they didn't want that, u could upgrade it using the same motherboard for several years.

I can't understand how ppl could come to the point that they blindly support Zionist-jewish capitalist pigs who rule and shape the system and don't give a crap about anyone.

  • @emrebozkurt800 above the capitalist zionist industrialist bankers are the true rulers the Satanists, Jesus told us who runs THIS world

  • @ITILII

We are talking about the same ppl. Noone is above these Rothschild and Rockefeller pigs at the moment. Neither the religion nor the gvts.

  • @Lisagb3 I made my comment and many ppl shared the same opinnion, i guess thats why i got thumbs up. For many years muslims have been outraged because of the cleverly designed zionist jewish games, just like 9/11. There might be good jews but i'm talking about the zionist jews here who rule the world behind the curtain with world domination plans in their dirty minds. Besides if you call ur country wonderful, i might have to say that you never seen a wonderful one yet :)

BTW: I am not a muslim

  • @emrebozkurt800 - Many people agreed with Hitler too. People just like you. Doesn't make it right, just popular.

For many years Muslims have been outraged that there are people in the world who are not Muslims. Everything else is diversion.

You may not be a Muslim, but you are at your very core, taken in by pure evil.

  • @mpc91 Ppl just like me? How do u know? You were there during the WW2? Or just talking here, according to the popular and well funded so called history which is biased and in favor of the zionism?

I don't believe the mainstream mass media and history written by zionists. (not all the jews are evil though. There are exceptions)

believe me pure evil is the ones ruling the gvts and holding the biggest shares of the banks.

  • @emrebozkurt800 - Hitler was able to convince a lot of people about a vast Jewish conspiracy. He got millions, you got 14. But it all goes to the same place, your politics are very similar.

I don't care what history you choose to believe. It doesn't change what actually happened. It also doesn't change the fact that the "vast zionist conspiracy" and "capitalist pigs" show you off for what you are. A hateful lunatic.

You can crawl back under your rock now.

  • @mpc91 ur so stupid that ignorance oozes down your comments. Hitler was funded by Rockefeller. Go learn history first.

OH YOU KNOW WHAT? FIRST TRY TO LOCATE YOUR OWN COUNTRY ON THE WORLD MAP :) Stupid bastard.

  • @shishmanov You sound more brainwashed than those who attend the Westboro Baptist Church.

  • @mpc91 The world has never went through an era like this be4, that ppl that are so ignorant could live in wealth.

Hitler got millions of dollars and huge amount of petroleum from Rockefeller (Standard Oil Co.)

Your either ignorant or in favor of this fucked up system.

  • @emrebozkurt800 Actually, the socket change has more to do with avoiding confusion than making you seem obsolete. LGA 1155 has a completely different architecture, and even then, who gives a fuck, no one is forcing you to buy it. People buy it because they see a performance differences compared any other processors. And if they don't see the advantage being great enough, they don't buy it. If you were to some how modify an LGA 1156 processor into a 1155 sandy-b motherboard, it would not work

  • @sticksquash that's the most stupid and ignorant comment i've seen so far here, which still seems complicated with your fancy words. everything u said leads to what i said anyway.

  • @emrebozkurt800 Actual arguments, please. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

  • @sticksquash my first comment is the actual arg. as a matter of fact its the truth :)

  • @emrebozkurt800 And I can't understand why people buy into the grand jewish conspiracy. It's stupid.

  • @FatherTime89 You must be one of the few ppl left who still resist it anyway :) ur either biased or in favor of them.

  • Comment removed

  • @emrebozkurt800 you are without a doubt a total 100% "what can government do for me" liberal democrat.

  • @AroundSun theres no such thing called democracy. thats a big fat delusion made up by big fat jewish pigs. just fyi

  • @emrebozkurt800 Thank god there is no such thing as democracy. Mob rule is an awful way to live life. There is a such thing as a republic though, which was created by our founders here in the US. FYI

  • @AroundSun keep thinking you live as your ancestors would liked to. they were good ppl and republic is a good way to live. though u should be clever enough to know that, not a tiny piece of the Usa they created is alive now. Bankers created their own system.

  • @emrebozkurt800 " keep thinking you live as your ancestors would liked to"

    I never said this

  • @AroundSun just for you to learn, watch this,

    /watch?v=YGAaPjqdbgQ

and u ll find out more. My intension is enlightening not humiliating. so seriously watch it.

  • @emrebozkurt800 Please, don't ever send me Alex Jones bullshit again

  • @Cm0n3y34 Thats the stupidest comment i have ever met on youtube. You just say what i said in a different way.

  • @Cm0n3y34 I know how it works. Probably better than u do. You can copy and paste what u have found on google but that doesn't change the fact that i say.

Go crawl back into your nest now.

  • @emrebozkurt800 According to your argument, the new hardware isn't actually any faster or better, it's just been changed to have more pins or use a different motherboard slot. If that's true, what's stopping you from keeping the same motherboard, graphics card, 1156 socket processor, etc. for years on end? It's just as fast, right?

Well, obviously not. The new hardware sells, not because Intel magically "gets" you to buy a new format, but because it's faster. Please THINK before commenting.

  • @gusgusthegreat Who said that new hardware isn't faster? You need to comprehend what u read before u make ur comment first.

  • @emrebozkurt800 Actually, @Commingforyou implied that the new hardware isn't faster in his comment at the top of the page. He suggested that hardware companies just change the sockets of various components to "get" or "force" you to purchase the updated hardware, and completely omitted any mention of the fact that newer hardware is always faster than older hardware. No company is forcing you to buy new hardware, but you probably should if you value staying caught up with modern technology.

  • i watched this saying bias or extreme bias every 5 seconds.

  • @wewillrockyou1986 I bet you did...that doesnt make you right.

  • This woman fails to understand Moore's Law, and instead replaces it with "planned obsolescence."

  • i get a new pc, tv, ps3, monitor, phone mouse and keyboard every 6 months lol

  • @ps3bots Congrats

  • This lady is a fucking idiot. Makes me rage to know this is taken serious by some people

  • It scares me that Annie Leonard has probably influenced a number of people. I hope that people take the time to watch the critique of her videos. This woman is an outright socialist and I uphold capitalism. The man who critiques her videos is fantastic; thank God he speaks out for what is right.

  • @nocollegeformefornow it scares me that people like you exist in this world

  • lypozene and viagra saved my life! thank you advertizing! good thing i dont need to shop anymore, cause of capitalism, food just appears out of thin air to fill my family's bellies! FOX NEWS WHOOOOP!

  • Okay, she doesn't understand the way computers work at all. The CPU, the part she's talking about, isn't the only part that changes. You have the GPU, RAM, HDD Sizes, the speed of the North and South Bridges, an upgrade in network speeds that are incompatible with old versions as is the case with b/g/n Wifi, the CMOS, the BIOS chip, the Power Supply, improved internal cable speeds, monitors dying, cords breaking, and a thousand other things that could go wrong inside a computer.

  • @chives123456 I know, this is the part that made me the angriest out of the whole video. Clearly she should not be fucking talking about computers.

  • The bit about the computer made me lol..

  • And don't forget, shoes wear out. Especially if you walk instead of driving.

  • but if i were to choose between these intelligent people about how cares more about personal and global life, and whose argument needs to be listened to in 2011 America it's definitely Annie Leonard. Just open your eyes. We are the wealthiest country in the nation? Yet everything, next to entertainment-oriented technology, seems on the decline. What has the Capitalist dream of the unfettered marketplace really done to this country?

  • I think the lamest thing in this critique comes at the end, when our Capitalist apologist says, simply, "don't shop. No one is forcing you to shop." Well, yes, that is a part of the answer. But the whole purpose of Ms. Leonard's film was to RAISE AWARENESS of how our personal choices are contributing to an ecological and social nightmare. All this guy wants to do is tear down her arguements by nit-picking. I'm not saying that he isn't smart and doesn't bring up highly salient points...

  • I just gave a thumbs down when the guy supposed we are living in a free market society :D He may not heard of corporate boardrooms and lobbists and regulatory bodies controlled by persons having strong ties to the very firms it should control.. well, just a thought :)

Also, its ridiculous how he doesnt even try to give proper numbers when he points out that the chick was wrong at something. He then just states that it would have no effect anyway, but not saying anything about why he thinks so.

  • 4-Learn some basic concepts: althoug "voting" is strictly necessary to have "democracy", "voting" doesn't mean "democracy". Much more is needed.

And "freedom" doesn't just mean "i'm not in jail and I can walk along the streets". As it neither mean "I can buy what I want".

  • 1-"we live in a free society"... only when you have the bucks to pay yourself a freedom.

2-In third world, people didn't need any "labor" or "resources" before colonization or industrial revolution.

3-Who talked about damn Soviet Union in the footage? Soviet Union was only another tag for a big system of domination and explotaion on this egoist, individualist and canibal capitalist world.

  • Comment removed

  • Dear god man you truly are a hero you put that dumb bitch in her place, hail to the king :D

  • Though I am a fiscal conservative, I am wary of my ilk who assume that any criticism of capitalism, automatically means "closeted communist."

  • She's saying buying into fads is someone else's fault.

  • So far I believe you both have very valid points. i.e. Yes-there is A LOT of electronic waste and yes-desktops can have motherboards, RAM, etc. replaced, but most people prefer to toss them and buy new because they don't have the expertise. How about we design computers to be fully recyclable by the manufacturer (saving them money on materials) to eliminate waste, and still give consumers the option to buy new? Instead of arguing over right and wrong, we should focus on what WORKS.

  • Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait, um what do you mean only capitalism works please explain that to me.

  • 8:55 "only the goverment can force people to buy something they don't really want"...... WHAT? you just said it is an open and free society!

  • @leanazulyoro The government still has mandates what you must buy. Car insurance is an example, same with car seats. Typically they only apply to certain groups, so you'd only need to buy car insurance if you were going to drive. We generally have a open and free society, but the government can mandate that we buy something.

  • 4:08 Your grandmother was broke, yet the resourses were there... factories were there, there were surpluses of food that could have just been given to the people...

  • well you need to do a little more on the Rockefellers then.

  • It's pretty evident the guy who created these critique videos bows down to the money God.

  • @meltedstar64 No, the guy who created these videos did his homework, as should you.

  • 2:25 read all Ann`s comment

  • Wow, 1 part changes in computers? Seriously? If that were true, a new pc company would come out and make compatible upgradeable computers...oh wait, they already are!

  • Great argument!

  • nice job

  • I thought 1st world was countries that were part of NATO, 2nd world was Hungarian Pact, and 3rd world was neither. So no, we were never a third world country as that never existed until after WWII, we were always a first world.

If you're using it to saying we all used to live in poverty, so did the whole world before the first industrial revolutions.

  • I absolutely loved the Bush part, it was sooooooo true!

  • @4:56 It's not that we're a consumption way of life, but because that's the structure of our income tax system, many wealthy people are forced to spend money so that they can cheat on income taxes. People with income above $250,000 pay about 40% of their income btw. Social security is an income tax.

  • Yes, she equivocated "perceived obsolecence" with "planned obsolecence". But it is indeed true that some products are made to fail on purpose after a number of time, like printers which have a locking device which acts when it reaches a certain ammount of copies.

  • I would have pointed out that her big fat monitor uses more energy than her coworkers flat sleek monitor.

  • @jqsc12 You're missing the point I think. Of course it's more efficient, but the amount of energy (and materials etc) it takes to produce that one monitor makes the equation a bit harder. Basically: we should upgrade, but only when we really need it. Not overconsume, so to speak.

  • wealthy nation, but not the happiest for sure

  • So what? Lets just try to justify our reasons for rampant exploitation and greed

  • And now were not any more happier. Depression is endemic. ADD is being rampantly diagnosed.

  • This guy has a really apathetic attitude....Tags

  • 7:21 Ya, no. The reason the pieces aren't compatible is not just because they made the next generation incompatible with the previous on purpose. The chips are made differently because the previous generation cant support the higher level of technology. (Lee's explanation doesn't really get to the issue)

In the mobile market, yes, you do see a lot of repackaging of old tech, and there is a lot of competition without innovation. On the other hand, there would be no reason to innovate without it.

  • 9:00 this isn't even perceived obsolescence, CRT monitors are legitimately obsolete. Flat screens can almost support higher resolutions, and would anyone care to find me a CRT with DVI input? I didn't think so. A better example of perceived obsolescence is Apple releasing a new iPhone every year that's more or less the same as the one before it, only with new aesthetic and maybe a handful of new features. But either way, CRT monitors have been around since the 50's and are definitely obsolete.

  • i think all and all, solutions have to solve together rather than keep complaining on the problems.

  • Commercials promote not only a product or service, but a lifestyle. If you buy product A then you may obtain a certain kind of lifestyle or simply put you will be perceived by everyone as 'cool' to have product A. Businesses' top priority is profit, even pharmaceutical companies are profit driven. I wonder which life saving drugs Doren was thinking about at 10:45.

  • I must be the cleanest hoarder ever, I'm looking around my room, at least 70% of all my items were bought 2 years or more ago. Anything bought within the last 6 months I generally assume I will keep 80% of that for the next year at least. I have to assume she's trying to lump food and sanitation products in that number. The burrito I'm having for lunch, I can't guarantee I'll keep it for 6 months, hell I'll be lucky if it's not shooting out of me in 6 minutes!

  • There is another version of Story of Stuff. I guess for the Europeans. It mentioned CRISIS instead of 9/11. The crisis started at the end of Bush last term, even during election. I remember that MCCain wanted to work with Bush on sloving, and making the election rest. Obama didn't. I knew then, like now, why Obama said no, because he is lacking experience. And it showed I my view his not carrying for the American people and the problems they would face. Bush didn't say shop.

  • The Wealthiest Nation with the weakest Economy... Contradiction Much?

  • @nanaforiod We may be weak now, but the United States is still the most powerful.

  • @mycarnage2000 I know, trust me I don't hold any illusions about the power of the USA. But honestly this economic business is really serious...

  • Her point with the computer was just hilarious. Every single part of the computer IS changing. I build computers, and if you don't want a computer to be obsolete then you are going to have to change MANY parts of it. The pieces are changing shape because MOST powerful technologies are not backwards compatible with older equipment. All the parts of the computer work together, and if they aren't compatible the computer wont function. You can't use a floppy disk in a blu-ray player.
