As a long time bass player I would agree wholeheartedly with your explanation of such a major slight. Bass players, even great ones are generally the last noticed performer on stage. Stanley and Stew lock up like a fine tuned engine.
Great song. One of my favorite by AL. Deborah Holland has the chops to pull it off. Even with Stew pounding the drums! Wow! Outstanding group of artists. Thanks for posting.
wow..this was Stew Copeland's and Stanley Clarke's band...this vi\deo keeps showing some dude struming a telecaster, but hardely shows the star bass player at all!
@partigus yeah I agree, what a waste because to see Stanley Clarke's finger bass work is amazing, but to be fair I guess as in promoting the show, the dude strumming the telecaster is Nile Rodgers and I sense since he hosted the show, but still not fair. The other guy on keys didnt get much recognition either. Well at least we were able to see the backup vocalist :-)
@shawn4cds I think it's a case where the director of this show had NO idea who Stanley Clarke was. Like a lot of tv shows, the normal pecking order is to get LOTS of shots/close-ups of the singer, guitar player and drummer (and if someone takes a solo) bass players are down the line (unless it's Paul McCartney or Sting :)
I love the music and think he is a fantastic drummer but I have to say he seriously lacks volume control, he is blasting the drum full blast in parts where the singer should dominate.
I think the video director thought it was the other black dude. Stanley and him should have switched spots, they should have known better. DH sings very well on this!!
stanley clarke was not there for this taping. the bassist you hear is al berry.

Am I crazy, or is that guitar player Nile Rogers?

Wow this is a great performance.
I adore deborah's voice, and she seems a lot more comfortable here than in some other live performance clips.

True that, check the glance back at :30. Stew claims he doesn't, but I swear he hits the kit as hard as anybody I've seen.
Sad to see this stuff go by the wayside; thanks for the post!
