  • wow blast from the past gotta love it....love u david

  • this is from soul train

  • @mjjcng8958 The performance is from Soul Train - the (short) introduction and the interview that follow are from the Russel Hearty show. You can hear the satellite delay and echo because Russel would have been in the UK and David was in Burbank California.

  • It's really cool to hear the great music that came out the year I was born :)

  • @darlingdino Same here!

  • What a vocal range and I must say Bowie has the most distinctive voice I have ever heard.....

  • "You'll be truthful and honorable and answer every question that is put to you?"

    "Oh, I'll be David Bowie."

  • Bowie got SOOOOUULLLLLL !!!!!!!!!!!

  • I like the boom and drums bassicly the rythm.

  • Hahahhahah, I was a teenager in the mid 70's and lived with Black & White TV. yeah it was good........ I remember this video clip I used to dance to this song and being a guy myself, I wore platform shoes

  • @auscorpio7 oh my god, i wish i was you, SO MUCH!!! or let me at least marry you, please

  • i love david bowie as much as i hate vevo

  • great dancers...

  • I was born at the right time to live my generation in the mid-late 70's, I MISS THE DISCO A LOT!!!!!!!!!!

  • YES!!!!!!

  • lol such a british interview

  • Coolest funkyman ever!!!!!!

  • Look at all those black teens dancing to the skinny little white boy music !. !

Then listen to the idiot announcer ask David if he will be "truthful and honest and answer all of the questions ..." what an ASS.

  • Can anyone tell me if there is other music out there similar to this song? I have asked a lot of people and no one can even definitively tell me what type of music this is.

    Thanks!

  • @tortmom1968

Of course there are! Listen david bowie's album called "young american" In 1975 bowie changed his music and proposed some soul music!

  • Oh thank you!! I bought the Best of Bowie 2 disc set not knowing really what was on it, and was disappointed to find it contained only the one song like that. I will certainly look for Young American now. Thanks so much!

  • @tortmom1968 This song is from Bowie's mid-1970s funk period, when he was influenced by American funk sounds of the time (hence the clip here from an appearance on "Soul Train"). A somewhat similar-sounding hit of his from this period is "Fame". If you look up the word, funk, on something like Wikipedia, you can probably get a list of influential 70s funk bands that you might like. Bowie's voice of course makes his adaptations of the sound unique, though.

  • @tortmom1968 Also, at the risk of offending Bowie fans, I recall thinking in the mid-70s that The Bee Gees' song "Jive Talking" blended well with Bowie's "Golden Years" and "Fame".

  • @tortmom1968 thats because it's the David Bowie genre ;), he has his own genre.

  • @tortmom1968 A good question. I would say, No, Golden Years is pretty unique.

  • Pretty functional.

  • The fact he was on Soul Train in 1975 just goes to show you how transcendental his music was back then (and still today).

  • FUCK YEAH! HOMOS ARE HELLA KEWL !!!!

  • Fantastic. Thank you for sharing. This is my favorite (among many that I enjoy) Bowie song.

    Cupertino, Ca

  • it was a functional suit....lol!

  • coolest man on the planet at that time x

  • David is the best, thank you. :)

  • fo sho! Suave with a twist of swagger. The black girls I hung out with love this man back in the day.

  • @lifeofpisquared
