@mjjcng8958 The performance is from Soul Train - the (short) introduction and the interview that follow are from the Russel Hearty show. You can hear the satellite delay and echo because Russel would have been in the UK and David was in Burbank California.
Hahahhahah, I was a teenager in the mid 70's and lived with Black & White TV. yeah it was good........ I remember this video clip I used to dance to this song and being a guy myself, I wore platform shoes
Can anyone tell me if there is other music out there similar to this song? I have asked a lot of people and no one can even definitively tell me what type of music this is.
Oh thank you!! I bought the Best of Bowie 2 disc set not knowing really what was on it, and was disappointed to find it contained only the one song like that. I will certainly look for Young American now. Thanks so much!
@tortmom1968 This song is from Bowie's mid-1970s funk period, when he was influenced by American funk sounds of the time (hence the clip here from an appearance on "Soul Train"). A somewhat similar-sounding hit of his from this period is "Fame". If you look up the word, funk, on something like Wikipedia, you can probably get a list of influential 70s funk bands that you might like. Bowie's voice of course makes his adaptations of the sound unique, though.
@tortmom1968 Also, at the risk of offending Bowie fans, I recall thinking in the mid-70s that The Bee Gees' song "Jive Talking" blended well with Bowie's "Golden Years" and "Fame".

Look at all those black teens dancing to the skinny little white boy music !. !
Then listen to the idiot announcer ask David if he will be "truthful and honest and answer all of the questions ..." what an ASS.

The fact he was on Soul Train in 1975 just goes to show you how transcendental his music was back then (and still today).
