This is an amazing rendition of Mistreated,, and to be honest i have heard the origional by deep purple but, this version by far leaves it standing wonderful.
glenn hughes is one of the best vocalists in the classic hard rock genres. I rate him right up there with ronnie james dio, bruce dickinson, rob halford and geoff tate
Glenn Huges is a great singer, but when he performs, it's like Yngwie Malmsteen - he's overdoing it to please all the nerds in the crowd who expect to hear something above the normal.
I don't even know who the Jonas Brother is. I like much of what Glenn Huges has done, e.g. with Purple, Dio and Phenomena, but face it, this live performance sucks because he is overding it to show off his vocal spectrum. It's like this overly complicated jazz music where people are playing hard parts with no emotion. I have to admit that Glenn is showing some emotion in this act. It's still more ridiculous than pleasant to listen to, though. I prefer both the Dio and Coverdale versions...
This is not the original version so there can be no comparison between David and Glen...Non the less I've seen them both live and I can tell you that David is the crowd pleaser and his singing is more powerful, while Glen's voice is more smooth and soulful and I got goosebumps when he sang this song live! All in all both are incredible proffesionals and there should be no contest between them - it's all a matter of taste ;)
Seriously, I'd LOVE to hear you sing like that. Glenn's range and control is fucking uncanny. I dont care for all the purist DP b/s, because this interpretation is just...damn...intense
I liked Glenn in Deep Purple but this is strictly David Coverdale's song... Glenn has a completely different voice and vocal range that doesn't suit the song.
Some people here are missing the point I think. Glenn sings this bit at the end of the song, this isn't a version of it but an add on at the end. Glenn's a vocal master there's no argument on that. whichever singer sings it best doesn't matter just Rock on to them all!
Why Glenn performs "Mistreated" is a bit bizarr and unecessary looking at is great stock on own songs -overall it`s Davids song (as "Smoke On The Water" is Ian`s).
But in the end: Glenn is one of the most talented musicans in the rock-scene ever.
Funny enough....he came up almost from nowhere. The Deep Purple story ended around 1975.The last voice of Hughes was that of 'You keep on moving'... and than was a break.
A few monthe ago I had a great pleasure to see his concert in London, Astoria Theatre.
Yeah, Glenn is making his (nice) night club version of this hard rock song. BUT this is NOTHING / no way near to the idea with the original version. Glenn makes here another song. He couldn't sing like David did EVER!
Glenn has great voice, but his voice suits other kinds of song. Definitely not this one, which requires deep and rough sound. Even Dio tried out this one, but could make it better than David. So sad, but so true. ;)
Saw him live at small gig in London some years ago, he's absolutely incredible. He just gets so into the music and goes off on those extravegant vocal improvs. Fantastic.
Today 8-21-08 is Glenn's 56th Birthday! I lestened to the CD's Trapeze-Medusa,You are the music, we're just the band,Deep Purple - Burn,Stormbringer,Come Taste the Band, and Glenn's solo CD Building the Machine.
very unique, very smooth voice. He's great because he can do heavy stuff (Iommi's solo album) and this slow bluesy stuff. Under-rated artist, he deserves more credit as a singer.
White Soul Brother. Love 'him. These three minutes alone could teach a singer a thing or two, for one, relation to mic stance... consistent voice. Salud!
This song was made for David Coverdale's voice, but Glenn can give a whole "personal touch" and takes it to another level, not better or worse from the original, just different..and awesome!
amazing god what a perfomance what a voice what a way in the singing how many different notes..high notes and low notes amazing, what a soul, he remeber me at the rachelle ferrel in the sense of the high notesand the low ones and the diferrent tipes of voices, he also makes a show with his voice
are you kidding me.....glenn hughes is god.....6 fucking octaves.....he's just fucking around here...this guy is brilliant....he isn't singing the whole mistreated cause its coverdale who wrote and sings this with deep purple
This is called IMPROVISION!....Originally this song has a more heavy sound...Mr. Hughes is the Voice of Rock and the voice of practically any genre....I really do think...
Dude, with much respect, I think if you saw the man perform this live, amidst all of his awesome metal, you would be blown away. I agree, it may sound a bit annoying on this site. Check him out live. I really think you'd find yourself in a trance...Then again, your hatred might grow! lol. Whatever, man. enjoy what YOU like! :)
