  • This actually isn't all that complex- It's mostly use of the polygon(star) tool, elipse (circle) tool, and pencil tool for outlining, node manipulation and fill/stroke configuration- all of which are easily learnable on the Inkscape wiki and it's many resources :P I love this technique for uploading B&Ws from a scanner and making a clean, crisp set of paths to edit and color, while also getting to fix small oversights in the hand drawn version :)

  • It's Rush! Yay!

  • too fast to see when you use which tools - especieally when you're colouring

  • @Iriien I have an Illustrator tutorial which goes over a similar technique and is played slower.

  • Thanks! I learned enough from this to make my first vector.

  • hey man I'm a noob at this- how do you edit the thickness of the bezier curves?

  • @ominoususer hehe never mind i figured it out, sorry.

  • thats not drawing, thats TRACING

  • @ssumm3rx megarockblog.blogspot com/2011/09/drawing-in-illustrator-tutorial.html

Because it will always be tracing.

  • How to you make things move up and down layers, like sending them to the front or to the back. I couldn't follow how you were doing that. Thanks

  • @billnye69

When you have the select tool active and an object selected there are buttons in the toolbar just below the path dropdown that raises and lowers objects...they look like stacks with arrows.Or you can press page up and page down to raise or lower one level or home and end to send to the top or bottom

  • Its not really copying, its for educational purposes. Say you sketch something out this shows you how you can turn a scanned copy into a vector graphic.

  • are you playing megaman

  • sorry a typo

  • Hey anyway what is the name of that song?

  • Hey anyway what is the name of that song/

  • how do you make the background transparent? Like whatever site i would put it on, the background color would be the sites background color.

  • @jtpruzz Uh, that is what transparent is. Otherwise, just draw a colored square to export the artwork with solid backgrounds.

  • @jtpruzz That depends on how you export it. You need to be sure to export it as a PNG file. PNGs have what you would call an "alpha" channel which allows for transparencies. JPG and GIF formats do not allow for transparency.

  • @jtpruzz save the file as .png

  • How do you get the line for tracing thicker?

  • this takes a bit of time, but I guess it's worth infinite quality ;)

  • h8 that song

  • Great job! btw is that the dog from Hamtaro?

  • @Blackkitten16 Of course now. MMBN series.

  • @MegaRockReborn thats Rush

  • you did the right hand wrong, doesn't match the original picture

  • @alex9000dx Some parts may have been slightly off due to the pressure and lag of recording.

  • hanato kobato!

  • You're not drawing, you're copying.

  • @jrgiffordjames It's good practice for the real thing. It worked for me.

  • @MegaRockReborn Good practice, yes. But it's not the same thing.

  • @jrgiffordjames But the practice helps you pick up on techniques you can use on an original drawing. It's probably more useful for tracing original line drawings.

  • @jrgiffordjames

I agree. This is tracing. NOT drawing.

  • @pauseandkufa When you're going to draw something in vector, it usually is tracing. I personally cannot draw what I want straight in vector. I have to draw in on paper, scan it, and TRACE it.

  • @MegaRockReborn that's actually what your SUPPOSED to do with vector art. -_-

    unless your making abstract art.

  • @MEGAMAN7659 So that's why all decent digital artwork always starts on paper first?

  • @MegaRockReborn naw its best to start with paper for vectors, but for other types of graphic art you draw right on the computer with a tablet.

but vectors don't have pixels, since they are mathematical equations rather than actual shapes & lines

  • @MEGAMAN7659 Oh, I see what you're trying to say. I agree.

  • What version of inkscape are you using. Mine is different. Your node tool has an option that mine doesn't so I'm unable to do what you're doing. I also notice my bezier tool shows options that yours doesn't. Mine is "inkscape 0.48".

  • @kurttwentyeight This video was made before 0.48

  • @MegaRockReborn 0.47

  • you must make your own Graphic -.-

  • @ClubVoteAltaIF It's just practice.

  • thats poopup right?

  • it's a dog

  • @smallball9 NO SHIT!! -.-

  • @TheCacashinha I was kidding around dumbass :L

  • @smallball9 Yes, but a dog usually has a mouth... I don't know what to classify this as...

  • Why do I get a megaman battle network vibe from this whole thing? The last BN game I played was the second one

  • @justinlovespastry Rush, the drawing, was an enemy in the second game.

  • Hmm. isn't there an eyedropper to get the colors then adapt it manually to fine tune it? Or will it not take colors from a bitmap? For the rest it does make a good free alternative to Illustrator. I might try it out. Thx for the quick demonstration and the fun background music hehe. :)

  • @chucknsarahfan Actually, it does take background colors, but the sample was too yellow and I felt I could create more accurate colors.

  • u forgot the right ear... sorry i jus couldn't stop but notice

  • @sadoond I was in a hurry to make the video go smoothly.

  • @MegaRockReborn sure, but i didnt say it wasn't a good drawing.

anyhooo, sorry about the inconvienence, and no, the way i type dosen't mean im white.

  • @sadoond I never implied any of that. You pointed out a mistake I made and that's okay. I'll remember that for next time.

  • @MegaRockReborn oh heheh... im not good with pointing out words and im an apolligetic type of person, sorry, ... :| there i go again :p

  • You've obviously skilled, but this shouldn't be called a tutorial when we can't even follow what is being selected. Call it showing off instead.

  • what's TREZ?

  • @Shembeatz you should be ashamed of yourself

  • @MegaRockReborn what? for real

  • @Shembeatz It's the most popular Rockman EXE site on the internet.

  • @MegaRockReborn The Rockman EXE Zone is that trez?

  • @darksupasonic Yes, yes it is.

  • @MegaRockReborn I am a true fan ;)

  • @danimi120 software. If u don't want 2 download anything go2 screenjelly website

  • what does everybody use to record a video like that...a webcam? please I need this!

  • @danimi120 CamStudio

  • @MegaRockReborn thanks! But (and I'm sorry for being such an ignorant), what the hell is CamStudio...I mean, I will look it on google, but just to be sure...Is it a software or something?

  • @danimi120 camstudio

  • @greentrees5x5 I don't like Photoshop's pen tool and this is much more faster and efficient.

  • de jó lenne már így használni

  • that's an awesome visual style.what r u using mega?

  • Coolios. -^.^-

  • inkscape is free to use

  • Cool! It looks more cartoonish!

  • wow so much better than MS paint!

  • Sorry MegaRockReborn, can you please tell me what the music is in this video?

  • Nice job.....this is like the first new inkscape vid I have found in a while .... like it ....hope to post some stuff of mine up soon .... but seriously ....nice job ...

  • oh dear it seems so complicated yet so simple

  • cool vid. Nice desktop too ^^ xP

  • Wow! Nice job of tracing Rush!

  • Awesome! I want to do this too! But what program are you using?

  • Inkscape. It's in the title.

  • Yeah, I just noticed that... T.T

  • how much is the program cause mine was free and its buggy.

    :(

  • I don't know.

  • the program Inkscape is free, "open source" if you want to be fancy. if you have linux (like some people including me) you can install it easily.

  • @MEGAMAN7659 free :)

  • Simply awesome, like most of the videos you do =)

  • Wow, you just added this video yesterday and you already have more veiws than me. How do you do it?

  • I always liked Rush <3

  • cool thanks i couldn't access it on TREZ

  • End Result looked awesome. Was the video sped up at all or is 10 minutes how long it actually took?

  • Sped up. It took about 20 minutes because of the rushing and lag from recording.

  • Ah, I see. Anyways, looks amazing. I understand how time consuming this kind of thing can be.

  • cool!
