All excellent work. I'd doff my cap to you. If I had one. Meanwhile may I ask what camera you're using. Keep on 'cos you're just brilliant...Respect with a bit of envy :)
Great video - I really enjoyed it! I'd love to sample some of that horse milk! I think $700 is a good price for all inclusive for three weeks - plus there's probably not a lot of other transportation options.
I was on this forum and people were talking about trying out airag in Mongolia. However, someone came on and told them that while he was in Mongolia, the locals in UB told him to be cautious about airag, because if you are not a local and come from a developed country, you will get diarrhea from drinking it due to the high amount of various flora present.
Ger is Mongolian, while yurt is Turkic. I believe that the latter also bends the lattices that hold up the structure to form the roof, while the former does not.
What happens if you take a pee break on an ovoo? And Mongolians and others, please don't attack me because I am a "Dirty Chinese" - I am just interested in your culture and in learning more about it.
Interesting Emil - did you draw that stick figure with the "I'm happy" bubble at the south end of Lake Baikal for a reason? Though I have to admit, being situated next to some pretty dry regions, Lake Baikal would make any nomad of bygone or modern traveler happy.
Well, they were (very) small-time farmers at best - hence why they wanted to trade and thus, often ended up pillaging their southern neighbor. Apparently, it is kind of unpleasant to not eat carbohydrates and vegetables and just eat mutton and dairy products all the time, though the Yakuts have been known to subsist mostly (if not only, gotta do some more research here) on reindeer until the Russian explorers of Siberia arrived.
To continue, today, Mongolia still imports a lot of its agricultural products from China and Russia (I believe they import a bit more from China), though the government has set up many vegetable and grain farms in river valleys and other easily irrigated areas. One has to realize that even with the Orkhon Valley region, Mongolia is a pretty dry place, especially the Gobi in the south.

Disclaimer - I did not intend to offend with my ovoo comment, though it may seem so at first glance.

Must be pretty hard to find a private spot for nature's call, the land being so flat and so devoid of even bushes (not to mention trees).

Yum - boiled horse meat.
Seriously though - can you made a "boodog" out of a horse? Or is it sheep only?

I also see you pay in Togrogs - I heard that RMB is also accepted at many places in Mongolia. Is that true?

Mongolians, going from farming nomads to an unstoppable horde of raping looting and conquering, then back to farming nomads.

malmn 2 months ago in playlist Mongolia | Gers Gone Wild
@malmn I don't want it to go live before I have a decent amount of content on my website. The Mongolia series will be the launch. Few more weeks.
