okay. So i looked on line and a shit load of ppl say when speed picking, tense up and use ur arm... on the other hand i have my teacher whos been playing 40 plus years saying, stay loose its all in the wrist. confused i of course resort to the slipknot players, and to me it looks like he is using his wrist, and any movement in his arm is from his wrist. Can someone pleas clarify how its done... i need more than one opinion. I would be very greatful:)

@575gtcFerrari It's definately all in the wrist, you shouldn't need to move your arm at all. Palm muting while alternate picking is only possible if your hand remains on the bridge as you alternate pick. Try keeping your arm totally still and alternate pick the low E. Switch it up and palm mute some notes as well and you'll be blazing with a little bit of practice. Btw nice choice looking to Slipknot, Jim Root is my favorite guitar player:)

If a solo consists of mostly shredding, it's just a little something that adds flavour to the actual music being played in the background. It is structured but let's face it, shredding is mainly used to look and sound cool (badass).

Well, both Jim and Mick are the guitarist of Slipknot and pretty much for the most part split things the middle in all their songs, so technically there isn't an overall "lead player" even in their albums where they solo.
