  • Are you running this on a Japanese N64? Does the 64DD work with an American Nintendo 64 assuming the physical lockouts have been removed. My American Nintendo 64 does play Japanese N64 games including Ganbare Goemon and Donkey Kong 64 Japanese no problem. I have a 64DD on the way, I just want to make sure that they will work with each other. I know both the American and Japanese machines are basically the same NTSC machine. I figure I would ask someone who owns a 64DD though.

  • @PrinzessinRamode You should have no problems running your DD on your N64. Enjoy it man.

  • @LordXaero thanks for responding so fast!

  • I came here for the music.

  • were some games even avaible on that 64dd

  • retro consolles rulez

  • Ok i nostalgia'd SO HARD when i heard that song :D lol

    METRIOD PRIME ALL THE WAY!!!

  • The myst of time?

  • Why have I never heard of this?

  • @susbeanz It was a failure in Japan so when it was released in North America, Nintendo saw a bleak future for the N64DD, so as a result they didnt produce very many of them and it was only available through mail ordering (as it wasnt available in retail).

also most of the games that were being developed for it were canceled to be ported onto the gamecube instead.

  • can someone explain what the heck this thing was used for? was it something like that add on for the old mega drive that made it more powerful only you could play games online with this thing??

  • @punji73 It was an add-on that allowed the N64 to play its line of CD based games, similar to the Sega CD.

  • Thumbs up if you thought the 64DD were boobs for your N64.

  • i want one. i've seen modem carts all over ebay and i actually got to see a mint cond. 64dd, it was pretty expensive. around 2 grand i'd say.

  • Dam it's smokey in your room was your house on fire or something.....?

  • @METALMAN4Wii This video is old. I took this using my Sony Ericsson w300i, which was a flip phone that did not capture video all that well, so the quality wasn't that great and made things hazey. At the time, it was all I had.

  • @LordXaero so is it real

  • @Jspotstudieos Of course it's real.

  • @LordXaero wow realy . awsome never knew somthing like that existed

  • nintendo 64 DD? nah. not an innuendo. and neither is conkers BFD.

  • I fucking want one : 3

  • Did it have any games?

  • @Scourgeandmephiles93 Yes, it did. I believe eight in total. Not sure though.

  • @LordXaero 10

  • @buggaren123 Cool. Thanks!

  • @buggaren123 actually it was 9

  • thats some of the worst camera quality that ive seen

  • What the hell is that abomination of nature?!

  • I want one soooo bad! And a copy of Ura Zelda to make comparisons with Master Quest. I think that Master Quest is a part of Ura Zelda. All the dungeons made harder, but without the new ones and other new stuff.

  • @ChampionRevilo In Ura Zelda, you were able to edit and make your own dungeons. Nintendo has even said Master Quest had nothing to do with Ura Zelda.

  • @DinofFire Really? It's weird since in Japanese, Master Quest is named Ura something. =/ I'm confused! :S

  • I like your choice of music..Phenandra Drifts, i believe.

  • @BuffleMuffle Correct. :)

  • @LordXaero THEE ONE AND ONLY..... i think :P

so... this was an actual console. theres no way you can fluke that with such low Q XD

  • They were going to make expansions for some of the best N64 games(which were some of the best games of all time IMO) with this thing. Too bad it never caught on. All we can do now is wonder what could have been.

  • @HyperPeanut08 Just another chapter in Nintendo's long history.

  • Comment removed

  • did it use cd's ??

  • @pachie1234 No, just disks.

  • sooo... what does it actually do?

  • @adamanddustinh It was an add on that never made it to the US. Just Google Nintendo 64DD and you'll find all kinds of information.

  • @MeptrepStudios No, it'll work on an NTSC Nintendo 64. that's what my DD is on.

  • pretty cool P.S. I really like the music and yeah I have Metroid Prime

  • these things are expensive now. i looked it up on ebay and the cheapest one was $668.00.

  • @doogrisa Yeah. They become more rare as the days go by.

  • So bulky, I'd love to own this!

  • @kB5ka Hence the reason they nicknamed it Bulky Drive.

  • Hey I think I made a mistake...On amazon, I bought a game called Mischief Makers,Allthough I want it on a cartridge, the seller said *some scratches on disk* did me mean on the cartridge or for the DD??? o.o please respond

  • @Luckyrob72 Mischief Makers was released on Nintendo 64, and didn't have any association with the DD, no expansion or anything. You should really ask the seller if he is sure of what he's selling.

  • @LordXaero Ok. Thanks for the reply. That is what I thought but then again...never know what gets remakes constantly haha xP

  • i bet that set you back eh? iv been lookin' for on of them but i didnt know if they work on english 64's. do they or are you usein' a japaneese one?

  • so that is wat the port on the bottom of the 64 deck was for, i always wondered wat that was all about, i thought it was for hooking it to an older console but logically ruled that idea out quickly so i was stumped

  • there's one of these for sale on ebay right now for $15.50 + $80.00 shipping, but its a bid :/

  • i tried to order this from a magazine. well I'm still waiting for it.

  • You are one lucky guy to have got that from Japan.

Because it was only avaliable for a short period from 1998 to early 1999.

I remember from the gaming mags about the 64DD and then from so much speculation about it, it seemed that everything disappeared with only just a few games to have come out in Japan.

  • cool metroid prime music

  • Does it appear once in a few months on ebay or somethin' like that? Cause I'm searching for one right now and gee it's really hard... :(

  • They are becoming more rare as the days go by. When I was in the market for mine, which was in July of 2007, I found at least four at one time.

Just keep searching, but be prepared to pay alot of money.

  • Great, I just got one, with almost all games except for the 2 rare ones (Pro Golf Tour 64 and Doshin the Giant 2)

Still quite a bit, 530 bucks.

  • Awesome deal dude. Alot better than me. I paid $422 in an auction and only got the DD and a Japanese Nintendo 64.

  • Um... What does it do, exactly?

  • @DarkLink9393 the n64dd was for playin' games on a floppydisk like format. this was to try and extend the n64's life spand, however it bombd. to bad to or else we'd be playin' earthbound 2 on it over here in the USofA

  • @qwertlolo Well, based off of what I read (not sure if this is true), but Mother 3 was originally going to be COMPLETELY different from the other two games in the series. I even heard that PP was going to be replaced with MP. It might have been a good thing that the N64 version was canceled, but we'll never know for sure.

  • @DarkLink9393 this is true. i guess it would be different, but if u really think on it, we'd probibly be on mother 5/ earthbound 4. they could of fixed the mistakes and continued the series.

  • @qwertlolo From what I heard, Mother 3 was going to be the last game, even when it was going to be released for the N64, with the exception of Itoi's idea for a "Mother 3.5", which was supposed to tie all the lose ends that Mother 3 was going to leave. Of course, "Mother 3.5" will most likely not be made.

  • tie all of* the loose* ends

  • @DarkLink9393 true. but the creator of all of the mother games seid that if anyone had an idea for mother 4 and wanted to make it, they hade his premision, so mother 3.5 is a possability, as is a possible continuation of the series

  • Ha I always wanted one :P The only thing that the port on the bottom of the N64 is good for is to corrode, which is exactly what happened to mine.

  • I finally know why that cartridge slot looking thing on the bottom of the 64 was for.

  • Yep. :)

  • What is the ext for?

  • Wow, this is REALLY cool that you have that...do you have any working games for it?

  • I actually don't. The games for it are incredibly expensive for it. I'd like to get my hands on the F-Zero Expansion Kit, and maybe Sim City 64.

  • yeah dude, I couldn't imagine how much just one of those would cost considering how valuable they are...if you were to get one, I'd suggest getting it from someone by possibly trading another valuable you might have?

  • I'll get them eventually. And if not, oh well. I mainly got the DD for collectors purposes, not really to play it. It'd be interesting though to play it.

I don't trade any of my stuff, so that would be out of the question. Haha. :)

  • Sim City 64? That sounds awesome!

  • man is it worth risking buying this item and later sell it for about 20 years? how much do u think its worth then when its 1 of the rarest things on earth

  • Certain things hold their value. Some increase, some decrease. Whatever it may be, I'm just proud to own something so rare, that's all. Its not about how much its worth, its about how many people actually have one.

  • good camera you have there.

  • Yep, it's the best.

  • lol phendrana drifts man i am a big metroid prime fan let alone a big fan of the whole metroid series

  • Same here man. I own every single Metroid game, including ones like the Metroid Prime with Bonus Echoes disc. Currently playing Zero Mission right now.

  • nintendo fcked themselves in the ass by choosing cartridge instead of cd

and the system could also have 8 megs of ram by default

  • zomg, what is it?!?!

  • dude ca u tell me if the 64DD works on a PAL N64 im eureapean an i wanna know it souds stupid but i wanna know

  • I've read that the N64DD only works with US, and Japanese consoles.

  • That would be so cool if it were released.

  • whats a n64dd

  • It's a disk drive attachment that was made for the N64. Wikipedia has alot of information on it.

  • read the video description

  • there is one of these on ebay right now "Austraian ebay"

  • The Bulky Drive... :D I had no idea.

  • where did you find one?

  • eBay.

  • Super Mario 64 2 (Multi-Player Sequal of SM64)

  • cool, a japanese add on works with an american console. what about a console from europe?

  • I'm not too sure.

  • "cool, a japanese add on works with an american console. what about a console from europe?"

no because japan and usa are in the NTSC region while europe is in the PAL region

  • Actually, the Nintendo 64 is a Japanese console, and the add-on was preconceived during the game system's development, that's why it works so great with!

  • so thats what that connection on the bottom of the n64 was for!

  • Yep! :)

  • Fellow metroid fan ;) cool i knew that was phendrana drifts the second i heard it lol, i look at the description after, and lol it was right there i was right lol

  • Haha. Yep. :)

  • Wow lucky you! I wish I had one of these.

  • I bought one with 8 games :D oh hey is that an American n64?

  • Nice dude. I'm still trying to get at least one game for mine, but I mainly got it for collectors purposes. Yes, that is an American N64. :)

  • Oh yeah. I got mine as a collector. now all that's left is a bs-x sataliview and my collection is complete. hey if you speak Japanese I would recomend Doshin the giant and Sim City 64. if not then I would recommend the Mario Artist games

  • where can i get of those

  • japan

  • even though the 64DD only had a few games they were good ones.

  • awesome got 1 of them last year with 5 games :D

my favourite is the F-zero Expansion Kit.

  • yeah I got Metroid Prime and I never heard of this when I 1st got the N64 so this is suppose to be rare

  • If the DD worked on CDs,nintendo could be the leader in the 32/64-bit era :P

  • phendrana drifts ahhhh..............

  • Yep. Such a soothing song.

  • oh yeah i have it on my ipod :) not to mention metroid prime is one of my favorite games on the Gamecube

  • One of the best games on GameCube. Very well made title, that pushed the GameCube to it's limits, while running at 60 FPS.

  • yep...boy I remember this....ordered one off of ebay along with f-zero expansion kit and sim city 64.

  • 64DD looks awesome. I Checked eBay, It's expensive.

  • this kid is going to sell 2 n64dd games for $20

  • I love this video

  • The 64DD friggin sweet rare find.

  • Looks cool as hell. Someday I'd love to see that thing in action

  • Whenever (if ever) I get my hands on some games for it, I'll do some game footage.

  • dude if your capable of finding a DD attachment then hell your bound to find games! i always wanted one of those!
