Lucas was not "above the Mafia." Almost all Harlem gangsters paid tribute to the Mafia families. And all of them turned state's evidence after they were convicted. But unlike the others, Lucas got out early. Barnes had to do his full 20 years.

Denzel is probably too well-spoken for this role.
