  • Clair, une des meilleures chansons de tous les temps.

    Forever

  • what a lovely memory you have Clair, I always loved this song, but never really thought about the words too much.....class of 69

  • Again; way to go Mohawk. 2 great video's. Clair has grown up to be a beautiful young lady, and very well spoken. Hopefully some of these negative ideas about Gilbert, and this wonderful song will disappear. Clair, you were bless'd to have Gilbert looking after you. I'm not religious but I think Jesus said something like little children were the hope,or light of the world. Thanx again Mohawk:)

  • She's right. I loved that song in high school and named one of my daughters Claire.

  • Simply fantastic mohawk....thanks for sharing this treasure too and thanks to Clair for responding so wonderfully. I am just starting my day and this gives me the smile I need to walk out the door with.

  • That was great seeing Claire now a beautiful young lady & the giggle at the end explained ~ well done ! ~ Steve

  • this is a great song and i never once had any idea of negativity...on the contrary it's very nice and witty...it's a twist of what you think the song is going to be about...my wife Claire loves this song...it's a great work and I love it....as far as the language being used in these posting formats it's become unreal...you who would talk about decency would dare comment on an artist's work? go ahead...you are base...yeah, look it up.

  • Great song Gilbert. Clair, thanks for the laughs at the end on mum's lap. Just beautiful, forever!

  • Es una de las canciones mas bellas y originales que he oido. La Historia de la cancion siempre me ha parecido muy hermosa.

  • WHEN i WAS A TEENAGER, THIS WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS, SPECIALLY BECAUSE IT WAS WRITTEN TO A BEAUTIFUL GIRL, YESTERDAY i WAS WORKING AND THINKING ABOUT GILBERT SONG.ALONE AGAIN NATURALY, AND OF COURSE I SAW CLAIR TODAY AND PLAYED IT. I DID NOT KNOW THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE THINKING BAD THINGS ABOUT THIS SONG...THEY ARE SICK PEOPLE WITH SICK MINDS..HEY CLAIR IF YOU READ THIS, I WOULD LIKE TO TELL YOU THAT WHENEVER I HEAR THIS SONG I LOVE YOUR LAUGH IN THE END OF THE SONG...THAT IS SO SWEET.

  • great song. reminds me of when i was young.

never mind the idiots ......... they won't go away but refuse to let them live in your head free of charge. cheers. NYC

  • That was utterly fascinating!!! Thank you so much for sharing. This song brings back so many wonderful memories for me that I can not even begin to express them in words. What a delite to see how the inspiration to this beautiful song is now a beautiful woman herself. Thank You and God Bless!

  • This lovely little girl became a lovely woman. I`d like to have a daughter as her.

    Greetings Clair Mills

  • why is it gilbert and claire make a statement and people still question it get a life you lot,if you dont like him thats fine but leave the man alone hes a legend

  • *laughing* LOVE the THX sfx at the end!

  • NICE

  • This song is about a mans basic paternal instincts, pure and simple

  • Comment removed

  • @MegaJoenobody Totally predictable response . Thanks .

  • @mohawk3881 Beautiful song, beautiful video, a picture of innocence. What a shame society today forces people to see the worse in people. Its a sad world when you cant sing about a child who you love without people misinterpreting it as paedophilia.

  • @MegaJoenobody you're sick.Child Rape Anthem?.I suppose you think "save all your kisses for me" by Brotherhood of man is a child rape anthem as well.

  • @tuguybear Don`t waste your time on this idiot . I know who I would choose to babysit my kids between Gilbert and this guy !

  • @mohawk3881 i agree i have put a block on the idiot,i guess jo nobody is about right he is a nobody thats why he has to get attention this way, bless claire, and bless gilbert (ray)

  • @TheShaun212001 If you wish to say a few kind words to Clair go to the other video - `The sweetest Clair video ever `- she is reading the comments and SHE WILL SEE IT ! Really !! Read the info under the video .

  • @mohawk3881 have done mohawk many thanks for the reply, its nice to know that clair reads the comments every now and again

  • @tuguybear Yes, any male who sings about children is a pedophile. True shit.

@mohawk388 Why would I want to watch your little bastards? I have my own.

  • @MegaJoenobody If your kids are like you, you're right. So you think Eric Clapton is a Paedophile?Even Elvis is a paedophile?.Maybe you doth "protest to much".Me thinks.

  • @MegaJoenobody . . . . I think your last comment illustrates your view of children. Nuff said.

  • That message at the very end was fantastic. Way to go, Mohawk! Super super job!

  • What a beautiful story.......I love this video.....Anyone who sees anything in this besides a decent man who has genuine love and affection toward a little girl...whom he truly loves and she adores him SHOULD NOT HAVE A COMPUTER TO BEGIN WITH

SO IF YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE SICK PEOPLE SHAME ON YOU

  • IT WASN'T ME I TELL YOU IT WAS THE 1 ARM MAN!

  • Wow there she is..she grew up to be beautifull as well.

  • When I heard the song the first time, long ago in the seventies, I thought it´s a song about a father´s love of his little child...I still think so nowadays.

  • @Eyyoh77 I agree with you about this song. In fact when I was little I used to tell my father that I was going to marry him, because I thought he was the greatest person on earth. He died a month before I graduated from high school. I miss him so much.

  • @SuperLouisianaLady I´m very sorry to hear from your father´s early death. Send you my deepest regards.

My father died three years ago. It was cancer. He smoked cigarettes since he was sixteen years old. He died with sixty-three.

I´m sure your dad is still with you." Love is like a yellow ribbon..".( You know the song Tony Christie?)

  • @SuperLouisianaLady not " regards "... I meant " REGRETS ". I have to improve my english!

  • I'm 46 years old and I've NEVER found anything "sinister" in this song.

I think it's the best song ever written about what REAL LOVE is.

  • In this day and age, we are told that everybody and his frikkin' DOG is a pedophile; we are told that a child molester hides behind every tree.

Whenever we here an adult say ANYTHING about a child, we immediately ask, "Is that sexual; is this guy a pedophile?"

Whenever we see a child doing ANYTHING, we immediately ask, "Is that sexual; would this appeal to a pedophile?"

It's as if we all look at the world through the eyes of a child molester. So when an innocent song

    durned character limit

  • So when an innocent song like "Clair" comes along, we automatically sexualize it. We didn't do that so much in 1972, but we do it now. It's sad, really. I'm a big fan of sex, but not everything is sex, and not everything should be.

You couldn't do this song today. We preach of the innocence of children, but we don't allow anything about children to BE innocent. Whether its people accusing...

    durned character limit!

  • Whether it's people accusing Spongbob Squarepants of being some sort of gay secret agent or people accusing Gilbert O'Sullivan of having unclean desires towards Clair, we constantly sexualize children.

Not Gilbert - THE REST OF US.

Sorry for the huge long post. I don't usually make such long posts.

  • @SailorBarsoom Don`t apologise - everthing you say is true - it`s a sad world we are living in today .

  • A moment in ones life that last forever. Love

  • Its a Sad reflection of the Times that People relate this Song in any way to an unhealthy relationship Between an Adult and a Child......I could totally Understand the song when it was released although I was Only 14 at the Time.

Now I have a Daughter and Granddaughter and I can totally relate to the song as a caring father and grandfather......Probably the Best Song ever written about the Natural love of an Adult for a child......

  • Those twerps who post/ed accusations are not likely to ever appologise. I think the reason that most of those who posted the obnoxious comments, think, if not physically, in their own minds the way they wrote. In other words, THEY are the pedaphiles & they see the pedaphilia in those scenes because that's how they think. That's where THEIR desires lay.

I'm only sorry that both he & Clair have had to endure the shit that's been written, & felt compelled to reply. Claire is beautiful as is Ray.

  • I loved this video. I had never heard the story about how Clair came to be written. I have loved the song since the first time I heard it. I never thought there was anything negative about the song. It was beautiful. I am 59 years old now and I hate the way society has changed. Every action and comment is analyzed for some hidden meaning. Thank you for this video response. I truly hope it helps someone. It's so sad when someone takes something beautiful and tries to trash it.

  • man the older Clair is hot!

  • EXCELLENT VIDEO; MOST ENJOYABLE TO WATCH.

IF YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE SAD, POLITICALLY CORRECT PEOPLE THAT SEES SOMETHING SINISTER IN THIS SONG, THEN TAKE A GOOD HARD 'BUTCHER'S' AT YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR ...... MAYBE YOU ARE THE ONE WITH THE PROBLEM. (Oh, pardon me for using the word 'problem'; how very politically incorrect of me. I should have said "ISSUE" instead! hahaha!)

  • Well, I still wish he wrote it about an adult. It's hard to dedicate to an adult even if you have the same basic sentiment.

  • @unwindzen What are you implying? If, as I suspect, you are implying that there is something sinister about Mr O'Sullivan's classic song "Clair", then clearly you are one of those sad, politically correct people that I referred to in my previous comment on this 'You Tube".

Jog on and get a life (if you are capable of doing that).

  • Sorry, ran out of room for the last comment.

It's a lie that men are that one dimensional. Men do like women for other normal reasons. Many men have great friendships with women. It's just that those stories don't sell papers or TV commercials.

  • A lot of these negative comments stem from the fact that men, mostly in commercials, are always portrayed as sex crazed fools. They always show an attractive woman walking down the street and every man there just can't stop looking at her to the point that they fall over and drop things and drool and whatever else that depicts men as sex crazed and out of control.

With that depiction in mind, how could it be possible for a grown man to simply innocently love a child.

    It's a perpetuated lie,

  • @at90percent Well said; very well said indeed.

  • Wow this was great. i agree with the thought at the end.for anyone to think that way something is very wrong with that person. I was a child when this song first came out and it always would take me to that happy place. and even today hearing gilbert sing this song brings pure delight to me. it's a treasure to hear from little clair today who's all grown up and listening to her think back to that time. gilbert is a very talented man and his music is from the heart.thanks for posting this.classic

  • mohawk3881 Thank you for your comments and kind words.

  • These sick minds, without sensitivity,do not recognize a wonderful song, with a fantastic arrangement,a classic of a genius!

  • a wonderful love story!

  • i CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT IVE NEVER HEARD ANY NEGATIVE COMMENTS REGARDING GILBERT OR THIS SONG. IM 47 AND WAS A YOUNGSTER WHEN THE SONG WAS IN THE CHARTS - BUT EVEN THEN, IT WAS OBVIOUS TO ME - (AND,I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT,TO ANYONE WHO HEARD IT)- THAT THE SONG WAS ALL ABOUT BABYSITTING A LITTLE GIRL. IT WAS A FEW YEARS LATER THAT I DISCOVERED THE STORY OF CLAIRE BEING HIS MANAGERS DAUGHTER,ETC. ANYONE WHO COULD EQUATE THIS SONG TO PAEDOPHILIA MUST BE IN URGENT NEED OF A BRAIN TRANSPLANT.

  • @millerman88HH Well said ! It seems to be a recent development - but there are hundreds of such comments here on youtube . It`s only a matter of time before they start on this video ! Thanks for your voice of reason !

  • @millerman88HH Hear, hear!

Anyone who STILL believes or suspects that Gilbert O'Sullivan is some sort of paedophile/nonce case, after watching this video, must be a seriously unbalanced person, mentally.

I, for one, would love to see a documentary about the distinguished career of G.O'S. on one of the main terrestrial TV stations. If and when such a documentary is made (and the sooner the better, as far as I am concerned) this video MUST be shown - in its entirety - in the programme.

  • @TheEctomorph WELL SAID

  • @MsRuth02 Thank you, Ruth; your support (on 'You Tube') is much appreciated. Take Care, hun.

  • @millerman88HH: I'm 48 and agree totally. Except the bit about who Clair is - I only found that out today. Oh, and I think you mean brain IMPLANT there ;)

  • @NEVERMORExxxxx THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE !! This video shouldn`t even be necessary - but it seems for a few people an explanation is needed . For everyone else - I hope they enjoy hearing Gilbert and Claire ! Thanks as always for your kind words xx

  • A lovely song no need to twist things about it,

I felt sorry for Michael Jackson when things

    Where taken the wrong way

  • @faffytunes Michael Jackson is a prime example of how these things can get out of hand - a very misunderstood soul . But unlike Michael Gilbert has NEVER been accused of ANYTHING by ANYONE ! His only crime is to have written a beautiful song about a child he was fond of .

  • @mohawk3881 If that is a crime, The Pope is an atheist!

There are certainly some sad people around, with twisted, overly suspicious minds. In my considered opinion, most ( although not necessarily all) Politically Correct zealots come into that category.

Personally, I think that Britain was, on the whole, a better place to live in back in 1972 than it is now; despite (or, more likely, BECAUSE of) the fact that Political Correctness had not yet sprung into existence.

  • @mohawk3881 Usually though, when more than 1 accuser comes forward(like in jacksons case) there is some truth to it. Plus his home had like what? 20 bedrooms in it, yet these boys were sharing his bed with him! Just something to ponder. But as I said before, a great song, and I play it for my youngest grand child when my daughter visits.

  • excellent video and if you suspect anything other than this is a beautifully innocent song then as it says in the video"your problem"

  • @100tonee Well said Tony - you must be as tired as the rest of us of reading such rubbish .

  • For those who have been abused, they have my profound sympathy. But everybody needs to stop projecting. Sometimes a song about a little girl is just a song about a little girl. 4 year olds are charming. I know, I have one and her name is Claire. :)

  • @Katwr1029 That`s a very good point . We are not suggesting for one minute that child abuse is not a serious problem and every effort should be made to stop it . All we are saying is there is no connection with this song . I have two daughters myself - I wish they were 4 year olds again !

  • @mohawk3881 Yes, I am sure that you do. 4-year-old girls are so much less troublesome and obnoxious than 14-year-olds!

I suspect that I will be criticised by some self-righteous 'PC' person for saying that. They will probably say that I am ignorant about teenagers and that I have no empathy for young people in this age group ...... blah, blah, blah. But wth ...... I don't really care what Politically Correct zealots think about me. I know how I feel, and how the people I respect feel.

  • lovely song and i dont think thers anything seedy about it..

  • @birdman404 Most people don`t ! But there`s a constant stream of bad comments that`s becoming boring now . I thought it would be nice to let Gilbert ` himself ` explain - and also answer the question ` Whatever happened to Clair ? ` . Well here she is - and I`m sure a lot of people will enjoy seeing her .

  • Clair is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. No one seems to note that the theme is similar to that of the song The Naughty Lady of Shady Lane, which was a hit by The Ames Brothers in 1954. In both songs a surprise ending reveals that the person being sung about is a child. I think that Alone Again, Naturally followed by Clair is the best one-two punch in pop music history, rivaled only by, possibly, Don McLean's American Pie and Vincent.

  • @JEFF9K Very true . And talking of similar themed songs , there was also the Eurovision winner `Save your kisses for me ` by The Brotherhood of Man . On the very last line the lyrics reveal that the girl is only 3 - I don`t recall that song attracting negative reactions at the time . Like `Clair `it was just a `feel-good` pop song . Maybe today it wouldn`t have been allowed . The world`s gone crazy !

  • @JEFF9K

WOO HOO!! good for you. I recall The Naughty Lady of Shady Lane-what a hoot!! that was a great song and I don't remember any nasty comments about it back then. American Pie!! I love it!! What has happened to America with all the sick thoughts some people have now! What twisted minds a lot of them have.

  • i always liked this song - i never heard anything bad about it

    nice post

  • @trexmarcbolan You only have to read through the comments on the many `Clair` videos on here to see what I`m referring to . It seems to get worse as the years go by - it`s a sad reflection on the world we live in today .

  • Wow - This hits the nail right on the head . Awesome ending - really unexpected . Gilbert and Clair both seem like really nice people and don`t deserve to be linked to the offensive gossip this song generates from a minority of idiots .

  • @raynard501 That`s the whole point of this video. It`s not aimed at the level -headed majority who just love the song for what it is - it`s aimed at the ` minority of idiots` as you so rightly call them . Just watch this space - they will be drawn to this video like moths to a flame .

  • @mohawk3881 I strongly suspect that you are right about that, sir! These sad people, with twisted, overly suspicious minds, just do not know when to give up and graciously accept that they were wrong!

Have these sad b*****ds got know humility at all, one wonders? Do they even know the meaning of the word?

  • @TheEctomorph It would be nice if one day someone came on here and said ` OK , I had my doubts about this song but I accept now that I was wrong ` - but I suspect that will never happen .

  • @mohawk3881 Me too. One of the things that I have noticed about the Politically Correct era in which we live is that the further we, as a society, have travelled down the road towards PC "utopia", as it were, the more reluctant people in general have become to apologize to others for making mistakes - and behaving in an unacceptable manner.

It is almost as if humility has become a dirty word in this PC-obsessed society in which we now live.

  • @mohawk3881 I suspect that that will never happen, too. Many of these self-righteous, politically correct types - the kind of people who have "very real issues" with the lyrical content of Gilbert O'Sullivan's (perfectly pleasant and innocuous) hit song "Clair" - are totally lacking in humility, and seldom - if ever - apologize to anyone for making mistakes or behaving in an unacceptable manner.

These people make me pig-sick, to be perfectly honest.

  • @mohawk3881 As I said, it is almost as if humility has become a dirty word in this Politically Correct era in which we now live. Other perfectly inoffensive terms which have been deemed "inappropriate" or "unacceptable" by the Politically Correct brigade are "common law wife" (you have to say "partner" nowadays), and "mental hospital" (you have to say "mental HEALTH hospital").

People who are willing to apologize and show humility are likely to have their "self-esteem" called into question

  • @mohawk3881 People who are willing to apologize and show a bit of humility when they realize that they have made a mistake/error of judgement, or behaved in an unacceptable manner, are liable to be criticized by self-righteous, Politically Correct types for having "self-esteem issues".

What is it with these PC zealots ...... and why are they so obsessed with that irritating little word "issues"? When I was a child, growing up in Norwich back in the good ole 1970's, one rarely heard that word.
