if russia and u.s. just keep track of there guns wouldnt it be very hard for rebels or miltias or any kind of terrorists(iraq war) to get a hold of any weapons making almost impossible for them to be a violent group violient group and kill anybody
I loved the end....because even though I don't support the business...dude was tryin to find himself.
The whole movie he kept stressin' himself and gettin messed up because he was tryin to please family and at the one point when he was trying to be legit.
But in the end....he could not deny what he was...and had to go back to that...his own true path.
there is no solution, ending the wars will result in even bigger problems, food shortage, diseases, extreme rich en poor differences etc etc etc. humanity should had started with birth restriction or something like that a long long time ago.
What a second. saigonpunkid are you callin Americans "sissies"? You are a dumb fuck if you are from America you are a dumber fuck. If you're from somewhere else you don't matter shit to me or other Americans.
Well said. If there's one thing the part of this movie with the african girl whose arm has been blown off can teach us it's that we don't give a shit about brown people. I mean we do, and it hurts, but we can watch porn with ice cream and run our hands down shiny red cars and who gives a fuck about a little girl's arm after that, am I right? Not us, that's for god damn sure. Cause we're not sissys, we're men, and real men don't give a fuck about black girl arms when there's food and cars around.
i love this fuckin film, one of the best ever made in my view, its so real and i love the odd crazy fact he says about gun running every so often in the film.
It's the "extremists" on both sides who fight all the wars. They don't care which ideology they have to adopt to get to fight a war. War is all they live for.
Do you know who's going to inherit the earth? Arms dealers. Because everyone else is too busy killing each other. That's the secret to survival. Never go to war...Especially with yourself.
britain and france are fucking pussies. They shouldn't even be on the UN security council. The only reason they are on it is because they were in bed with America during WW2. They weasled their way in.
War isn't about hatred, or any human construct for that matter. It's about fighting over limited resources. "We're good, they're evil" isn't anything more than a crutch to mentally help you kill your neighbor. You want someone's resources? You have to kill them, or otherwise displace them. Either way, they suffer for your gain. The oldest zero sum game in the world.
I'll take a shot at that. I'd say, because of the profession he's in, you can't have a conscience to fight what your doing, even if it is a horrible thing. When you're in that line of work, second guessing yourself can only hurt, because it will make you realize what your doing is terrible, and what your doing is only supposed to be business. You can't write a eulogy for those who've died because of you, things of that nature. It gets in the way of making more money. I don't know, how's that?
Cage's character goes to war with himself in the sense that he loses his family, got his brother killed, and is completely abandoned by everyone he ever loved. he makes these choices because of power and greed, he becomes addicted to arms dealing because he realises it's the only thing he's good at and he destroys his life because of it.
Man, this movie is just amazing. It speaks volumes about us humans, our reality, and life in general. Definatly a movie to be inspired by, very well done.
Dude I don't get that. "They say evil prevails when good men fail to act. What they ought to say is, evil prevails." This movie is as close as I've ever seen to an argument for why the world is going to burn.
The fact that the largest arms dealers on the planet are the permanent members of the "Security" Council is something so monumentally fucked it's impossible to wrap your head around it and stay sane. Only a masochist would watch this movie more than once avery few years.
what they mean is no matter what evil prevails such as if you arrest one mobster another takes his place as long as there are more then 2 human beings on this planet there will always be crime.
I love it when he asks which is the real weapon of mass destruction? The nuke that is just sitting there for years or the ak 47 constantly being reloaded and killing
This is one of my favourite movies (and endings) and to be honest, I was pleasantly surprised when I watched it. Knowing it to be a movie about guns, I was expecting a preachier tone. I think I got corrected about the tone of the movie at the first shot when Cage says "...how do we arm the other eleven?"
The UK version also had a short spoof clip in the DVD where AK47's were sold on TV via mail order. "Call now and get two crates of ammo for free!"
im being serious when i say nicholas cage was only good inthis movie seriously all his other ones sucked this one rocked and it was moving too and jared leto played good parts too.
It's very simple...where there is demand, there will eventually be supply. And the price of goods will rise to the point where competition will depress it. Simple DEMAND & SUPPLY. No amount of laws or moral persuasion will remove the demand & supply reality.
One mybe put away for now but do you think these men can stay behind bars. The sell weapon's to every country they can everybody need's them and it's a sad thing.
Your right the guy has lot's of money and the movie makes the point of showing we will never have peace. That is why men like him exist because there is always a war going on somewhere. And i don't think that will ever change tragicly.
when he's talking to the guy, there's subtitles and it says "Umbrellas in the desert?" -Guard. "Sun Umbrellas!" -Nicolas Cage. He sees the money and says "Let them through, Let them through" -Guard
Viktor Bout, the real life Yuri Orlov, was captured in Bangkok, Thailand on March 6, 2008. The United States issued a warrant for his arrest after he sold arms to the F.A.R.C. rebels in Colombia. Gigs up, Orlov. :)
Gigs up for Viktor Bout, AKA Yuri Orlov in this movie. He was captured on March , 2008 in Thailand after the United States issued a warrant for his arrest for selling arms to the F.A.R.C. rebels in Colombia. (Yes Nicolas Cage's character is based on a real arms dealer nicknamed the Merchent of Death).
I don't understand what he means by "Never go to war....especially with yourself." Does he mean not to have internal conflict? What other deep psycho-analytic is there?
Go to war, with yourself, because internal conflict is what prevents people from doing anything stupid. Like if you want to do something stupid, something else in you fights that urge and delays that from happening.
As you can only be talking for your own experience or your own interptretation of others experience, then what you are saying is that you have tendencies to do stupid things and then "something" inside you tells you not to do it... you should go get help you might be in an early stage of schizophrenia...
what will happen if one day you don't hear that "little voice" telling you not to be stupid... I just hope that by saying "doing something stupid" you don't mean killing someone or raping a child...
yeh great film and to think people like the us and uk are one of the biggest supplyers makes u sick im british so yeh that makes you think about the leaders today..
BRITAIN supplys gun well i doubt it very much britain should have guns but wee dnt if i could id do this the us and russia are the biggest gun suppliers no doubt
One of the best movies ever made. Amazing acting, sound track, cinematography, plot. Very well made.
One thing that not many people pick up on that's ironic: When he passes through the arab Bedouins in the desert, when they wave to let the trucks pass, they say "With Peace" 4 times. Talk about irony.
Very true. What is also Ironic, is that "Yuri Orlov", (The person Nicholas Cage plays) is actually a real person, but in real life he is infact a peace rights activist!
Nic Cage delivered a powerful performance. Cold and yet knowing. You can even say that he looked at his business as a public service. People are going to kill each other anyway.
And in a world where if every human was to live a european lifestyle we would need another two earths worth in resources(World Wildlife Fund figures)its a simple fact that every person that does die, is one less mouth to feed. 170 people are born every minute so if anything this is a public service. And dont tell me, i know how much this state of affairs sucks.
This film is ridiculously good.
